View Full Version : TCG Challenge #1 (EOMC) - Trainer Cards

Water Pokemon Master
5th November 2003, 08:04 PM
This is the first end-of-the-month challenge (EOMC). Whoever wins this quiz gets a trophy to put in their sig, and whoever has the most points from all quizzes combined gets a trophy. There will be no Extra Credit for end-of-the-month challenges and there will only be five hard questions. For this and future quizzes, for every person that replies except for the first, second, and third ones, loses 2 points. So, if you are the 4th person to reply, you lose 2 pts.

Are You Ready to be Challenged? (5 pts each)

1. Name five all-time broken cards as well as why they should be considered broken compared to other cards.

2. What trainer card says, "Each player plays with his or her ____ ___ ____ ___ for the ____ of the game?" (Fill in the blank as well)

3. What is the difference between Rare Candy and Breeder. (Need to be very specific)

4. Name 2 trainer cards with Japanese writing on them and a trainer card with a gameboy picture on it. (I can't name what type of gameboy pic because it will give it away *hint*hint*)

5. Name every Pokemon set that has trainer cards in it by order of release date (forget Promos and Southern Islands) and name what you think the best trainer is in each set (1 ONLY, not 2, not 3, ONLY 1). (points will be given by on how reasonable the answer is)

Good luck and try to answer as fast as possible! Five people need to play in order for someone to win the prize. No more answers can be given by Sunday (you can still give your answers Sunday, but it is the last day if I didn't make myself clear).

1. Name five all-time broken cards as well as why they should be considered broken compared to other cards.

a. Neo Gen. Sneasel due to the seldom fact that for 2 (perhaps Rainbow) Dark Energies it can lay out a flat 140 in one hit

b. Neo Gen. Slowking due to the instant trainer denile (combined with Chaos Gym is EVIL) Slowking became compatible with E-V-E-R-Y deck in Ne-On!! (as is Sneasel)

c. Neo Gen. Feraligatr because of the same reason as sSneasel, with so many Water Energy-discarding cards it was easy to dish out 200 a turn in the Rocket-On format.

d. Super Energy Removal, for the sole reason of being cheap and very, VERY effective on a multitude of pokemon

e. Blastoise cuz, DUR he could power up basically every powerful Pokemon IN THE GAME at that time in one turn or two

2. What trainer card says, "Each player plays with his or her ____ ___ ____ ___ for the ____ of the game?" (Fill in the blank as well)

- "Here Comes Team Rocket", Each player plays with his or her Prize cards face up for the rest of the game.

3. What is the difference between Rare Candy and Breeder. (Need to be very specific)

That Rare Candy only works on your Active Pokemon

4. Name 2 trainer cards with Japanese writing on them and a trainer card with a gameboy picture on it. (I can't name what type of gameboy pic because it will give it away *hint*hint*)

Koga's Secret Transformation, Imakuni, and something

5. Name every Pokemon set that has trainer cards in it by order of release date (forget Promos and Southern Islands) and name what you think the best trainer is in each set (1 ONLY, not 2, not 3, ONLY 1). (points will be given by on how reasonable the answer is)

Base Set - Bill - Because with Bill ANYTHING was attainable, energy cards, pokemon, heck with just a little luck, you could get exactly what you wanted wit Bill
Jungle - Poke Ball - Because well it's the only trainer from the set
Fossil - Mysterious Fossil - Because of the fact it could turn into one of the Pokemon in the Metagame at the time (Aerodactyl) and can turn into a multitude of other Fossil Pokemon (Kabutops, Kabutops EX, Omastar, etc.)
Base Set 2 - Prof. Oak - Great card with an empty hand, just dump what you can into play and then use it to get a great new hand
Team Rocket - Boss' Way - The Better version of Trader without any catch, helped me acheive greatness with Dark Blastoise
Gym Heroes - Energy Flow - Revolutionized Rain Dance, allowing Blastoise and his many little water pals to heal insanely (Pokemon Center) without loosing ANY energy at ALL
Gym Challange - Chaos Gym - Came into real use during the Rocket-On format, insane powerhouse when combned with Slowking
Neo Genesis - Prof. Elm - This guy helped us all achieve great hands for the cost of no more trainers for the turn, great way to find the hand you want to use.
Neo Discovery - Hyper De-Evolution Spray - Great with combo-ed with "Ambush" pokemon as I call them, Pokemon with Powers that activate as soon as they evolve (Dark Golbat/Crobat, Beedril)
Neo Revelation - Healing Field - The best way to counter other gyms without hurting yourself, althought many a time it could backfire....
Neo Destiny - Energy Stadium - This Stadium was great for Energy (discarding) decks, it could get you back what you lost (Energy) and then use it to your advantage
Legendary Collection - Pokemon Trader - This card could get you the exact pokemon you needed/wanted without a real cost except shuffeling back in another pokemon
Expedition - Pokemon Nurse - Now a given to use, with combos like Blastoise, Venusaur and Sceptile, this card has been able to take loads of damage off of pokemon, saving many a trainer the game
Aquapolis - Town Volunteers - This card has saved me the game plenty of times, combined with good search cards, this card could help you find the necessay pokemon or energy you needed back from the Discard Pile
Skyridge - Fisherman - THis is GREAT for Energy Waster decks, especially like Delicatty and most Fire Pokemon out there today...
EX Ruby/Saph - Switch because with very high retreats with EX pokemon nowadays, youre GOING to need ways to retreat
EX Sandstorm - Claw/Root Fossil - Lets see...Cradily and Armaldo are two of the biggest Powerhouses in the E-On format, AND these two work well in "Revenge" decks (Arcanine/Cacturne/Sharpedo)

PMs r a better solution than deducting pts.

Are You Ready to be Challenged? (5 pts each)

1. Name five all-time broken cards as well as why they should be considered broken compared to other cards.

-Sneasel: absurd damage to cost ratio
-Clefable: higher capability than sneasel, simpler cost, high HP
-Super removal: no energy, no attack. Even banned in japan. 'Nuff said.
-Computer Search: 2 cards is nothing to what u can get to turn the game around. Also banned in japan.
-Mime: This card takes into account of the current environment where attacks lower than 30 is extremely rare. And its weakness is a hidden strength.

2. What trainer card says, "Each player plays with his or her ____ ___ ____ ___ for the ____ of the game?" (Fill in the blank as well)

Here comes team rocket. 'Prize', 'cards', 'face', 'up', 'rest'.

3. What is the difference between Rare Candy and Breeder. (Need to be very specific).

Havent seen rulings for RC, but here goes:

Breeder only allows basic to stage2, and only when allowed to evolve.

RC allows basic-stage1 or basic-stage2, and since no mention of any restrictions, can be used even when evolution isnt allowed.

4. Name 2 trainer cards with Japanese writing on them and a trainer card with a gameboy picture on it. (I can't name what type of gameboy pic because it will give it away *hint*hint*)

For some reason, japanese Misty's Tears come to mind when i read the question „ˇ_„ˇ

From the top of my head, Mail from Bill since i recall a PC in the background. Shame to say i researched and found Lanette's Net Search also has a PC.

Dunno which one has a GB.

5. Name every Pokemon set that has trainer cards in it by order of release date (forget Promos and Southern Islands) and name what you think the best trainer is in each set (1 ONLY, not 2, not 3, ONLY 1). (points will be given by on how reasonable the answer is)

As far as i know, every set has trainers.

Base: Oak, indispensable in any deck.
Jungle: Pokeball, no choice
Base2: Computer Search, indispensable
Fossil: mysterious fossil for evolving
TR: nightly for anti-decking
GH: Erika perfume, to see opp. hand and disrupt bench by adding extra
GC: Koga Ninja Trick, attack evasion combos
N1: gold berry, best healing
N2: fossil egg, better efficiency than mys.fossil
N3: TR hideout. How many trainers increases HP?
N4: Counterattack claw, combo with pluspower for more attack
E1: copycat, best alternative besides elm for modified
E2: Town Volunteer, see nightly
E3: crystal shard, dismisses weakness and unown-N combo (self-damage attacks)
EX1: E.switch, strategy helper, especially in tight situations
EX2: Claw Fossil, same as Ninja trick or Clefairy doll, longer lasting, good pkbody, can attack with help of several combos

I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. I was trying to be funny with the big letters. I guess we will just wait until one more person plays instead of closing it today, even if it takes another week.

1. Name five all-time broken cards as well as why they should be considered broken compared to other cards.

Sneasel, Slowking, Cleffa, Computer Search, Gust of Wind

2. What trainer card says, "Each player plays with his or her ____ ___ ____ ___ for the ____ of the game?" (Fill in the blank as well)

Here comes Team Rocket (Each player plays with his or her prize cards face up for the rest of the game),

3. What is the difference between Rare Candy and Breeder. (Need to be very specific)

Rare Candy can be used the first turn a Pokémon is played (unless it is the first or second turn of the game) and can evolve through Aerodactly and other cards that prevent evolving. It can allow you to evolve to a Stage 1 or a Stage 2. Breeder can only be used when you would be allowed to evolve anyway and cannot be used to evolve to a Stage 1 (even though there is NO reason you would want to).

4. Name 2 trainer cards with Japanese writing on them and a trainer card with a gameboy picture on it. (I can't name what type of gameboy pic because it will give it away *hint*hint*)

Neo 4 Lucky Stadium (just a guess) and Koga's Ninja Trick; ???

5. Name every Pokemon set that has trainer cards in it by order of release date (forget Promos and Southern Islands) and name what you think the best trainer is in each set (1 ONLY, not 2, not 3, ONLY 1). (points will be given by on how reasonable the answer is)

Base - Gust of Wind
Jungle - Poké Ball
Fossil - Mysterious Fossil
Base 2 - Computer Search
Rocket - Rocket's Sneak Attack
Gym Heroes - No Removal Gym
Gym Challenge - Resistance Gym
Neo Genesis - Elm
Neo Discovery - Fossil Egg
Neo Revelation - Breeder Fields
Neo Destiny - Counterattack Claws
Legendary Collection - Trader
Expedition - Copycat
Aquapolis - Town Voulenteers
Skyridge - Fisherman
EX Ruby/Sapphire - Birch
EX Sandstorm - Rare Candy

*smacks head* the POKEDEX! Jeez, if i had remembered the billion number of times i wondered why they used a GB entry for that card...

Anyway, thx. Well, its a nice surprise, and smthng nice after an exam paper is always good, eh? If only i hadnt lost 15 marks minimum for the math paper, damn i forgot to study the last 4 topics (vector, loci, complex number, differential eq). And knowing how prone i am to careless mistakes... juz hope i'll pass.

EDIT: juz realized a hit a hat-trick. Got all 3 colors of prizes, lol.

I have hated, hate, and will always hate math. It is the only subject I can never get in A in and is giving me so much stress. I am not even planning on going into a field that involves math, so why do I need to know the Alternate Interior Angles Therom and all of that useless junk? All they should really teach you in math is addition, subtraction, divison, and multiplication; none of the other useless junk that just takes up space in your head and gives you an ulcer. Death to math.

Whoops, got off topic but at least I let out some steam. Anyways, your welcome RK, and enjoy your trophy.

Looks like I'm the only one around that doesn't hav much problem with mathematics ;) Hehe...

@DB ~ Most of the ppl in this forum had played pokemon b4 and there is always once in a while some pokemon TCG topics. So I don't think there is a need to request for a forum name change lolz...

@WPM ~ Its fun to hav these quizzes around! It livens up the Poke- Spirt here lolz... Though I myself don't participate in the quiz, I myself do sometimes check on the Quiz topics to try out the questions. Even though I don't post them.

hmmm...

WPM, how much were each questions worth (and how much were they worth if you gave an explination)?

Water Pokemon Master
10th November 2003, 02:54 PM
Each question was worth five points. No extra credit was given if you gave an explanation to your answers when it was not needed, for example, #5, if that was what you were thinking. Otherwise, did I make a mistake when tallying up your points or something?

BTW, what do you guys want the next quiz to be on?

@ Darkyouth: Wynaut (Why not) Just try and answer the quizzes? You may even win a star if a small number of people play. You should always try because you never know.

A lot of ppl dont bother to do stuff they wont be rewarded well for.

Angles r easy, u'll get ulcers when u go to university and they cram u with theroems that'll drive even einstein up the wall.

Btw, i kinda like math. Apart from memorizing formulas, and only cuz i got a memory leakier than a old drain pipe.
