I said it WAS an English word. Pay attention --;. The English meaning has a TOTALLY different meaning than the foriegn word. Outro in Portugese (I think thats what the language was, given that Brazilian sites came up), and as far as I know the meaning in that language has nothing to do with the opposite of Intro, film, or any movies. I bet whoever from Hollywood made that term up didn't even know it was a foriegn word. He just thought of what would sound best as the opposite of intro.... and outro it was.
The only reason I pointed out that it has a foriegn meaning was, was because on Google it found more matches of that kind of "Outro" than the meaning I had in mind. I didn't even know it was a foriegn word, until I was bored and tried looking it up on Google. I assumed you also have been using Google, trying words that are _utro, with every letter. Of course I was wrong, but once you said that no matches came up for letters other than ones you guessed would go there, that's when I assumed you were using Google, and investigated the situation. And then, the majority of foriegn sites came up, and I had learned that it is also a foriegn word. So I assumed you had skipped it since you thought of only the foriegn word.
I bet the same would come up on Yahoo!. Although it wouldn't be in dictionary.com, since it's a term that only pro-filmmakers use. I learned it when David Mamet visited our school (yes I'm serious) and worked on a class project with us.
~Zak
Lady Vulpix
6th February 2004, 12:03 PM
In that case, I think it would be a good idea to only use words that can be found on dictionary.com from now on (it was a pure coincidence I'd happened to see that word once). BTW, its Portuguese meaning is "other".
How about posting a new version now, Zak?
Pichu
6th February 2004, 12:14 PM
