What you do, is instead of guessing a letter, you guess a word, then if there are any correct letters the game master(in this case, zak) will say so and fill them in, let me give you an example

lets say, that its a 5 letter word, and the word is 'gates'

now, someone guesses the word 'paves'

then the game master would be like

"-a-es"
