View Full Version : [GSC] Specs of Daycare and Boxing

Well, in my eternal laziness, I have found a way to integrate video games and homework. As such, my science fair project is about shinies and non-shinies. I will catch 5 Gold Gyrados and 5 regular Gyrados, raise them to level 50, box them, and check their stats to determine their DV's.

My problem is such: I want to check the details of Daycare and Boxing. Here is what I know:
-How to determine DV's
-The Daycare adds one experience point to your Pokémon for each step you take.
-Putting a Pokémon into your PC Box, restarting the game, and taking out the Pokémon will raise its overall stats.

Here's what I need to know:
-How much experience does, say, a Gyrados need to get from any level over 20 to 50? (I know I saw a list like that somewhere, but I've misplaced it)
-How many times do I need to box a Poké before it is to its max stats for that level?

Thanks in advance!

Now, for your other question...

The box trick works because of "Stat Experience". Stat Experience is not the same as the regular experience you see and gain after you finish a Pokémon battle. When your Pokémon has reached it's max Stat Experience, then its statistics have been maxed out, the Pokémon has reached it's "Personal maximum" for that stat. A Pokémon's personal maximum stats are decided by it's DV's. The total amount of Stat Experience that a Pokémon can acquire is 65,536. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing exactly how much Stat Experience your Pokémon has, because there is no way to see how much stat experience a Pokémon has, stat experience is calculated "inside" the game. Whenever your Pokémon's stats won't go up anymore after repeatedly doing the box trick, then it means that the Pokémon has likely reached it's personal max stats, it has aquired the 65,536 stat experience for it's stats. Also, note that each stat has its own stat experience stat. For a Pokémon to reach it's personal max stats, it will have to get 65,536 stat experience points in each individual stat, HP, attack, defense, speed, special attack, and special defense. The amount of stat experience that a Pokémon gets is equal to the base stats of the Pokémon that it defeated. For example, if your Pokémon beat a Tangela, it would get this much stat experience for each stat:

HP: 65
Attack: 55
Defense: 115
Speed: 60
Special Attack: 100
Special Defense: 40

So, if you are trying to focus on getting stat experience in one particular stat, try to beat up on Pokémon that have higher values in the stat the you want to raise. If you want to raise Defense, fight Pokémon that have high Defense, if you want to raise Speed, fight Pokémon that have high Speed. Also, for stat experience, it doesn't matter what level the opposing Pokémon is, because base stats never change. Beating a Level 10 Tangela will get you the same amount of stat experience as beating a Level 50 Tangela.

Thanks, N1CF! This info will help me out greatly. However, I have just used logic (dum-dum-dummm!) to figure that if I could hatch 5 baby Magikarp from the Golden Gyarados that I wouldn't have to put 500+ hours of gameplay into my Gold. So, instead of making another topic, I figure I'd just ask here.

That said, I need to know:

- whether a shiny Pokémon and a Ditto will make a shiny Pokémon, or whether it is nce again a luck issue.

- if that is true, how long do you need to wait/walk for an egg to appear at the daycare.

Once again, thanks, and Happy Holidays!

You are welcome, I'm glad that I could help ya!! ;)

Breeding a shiny Pokémon with a non-shiny will give you a 1 in 64 chance of getting a shiny baby.

Now, for your second question...

When you leave 2 Pokemon at the daycare center on Route 34, (below Goldenrod City) then they may breed, and there could be an egg waiting for you at the daycare center after awhile. When you go to the day care center, give 1 Pokemon to the man, and 1 to the woman. Make sure 1 is male, and the other is female. If the 2 Pokemon species can breed with each other, and they are compatible with each other, then you will have an egg after awhile.

Legendary Pokemon and baby Pokemon can't breed. Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Unown, Tyrouge, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh, and Celebi are the only Pokemon that can't breed. Any Pokemon, except those just listed, can breed with a Ditto. The baby will always be the same species as the Pokemon that Ditto was bred with. 2 Dittos can not breed with each other however. Also, there are some genderless Pokemon out there, like Starmie, Electrode, Magneton, etc..., and they can only be bred with a Ditto.

Here is the formula that will tell you just how long it will take for you to get an egg after you leave your Pokemon at the daycare center.

Providing that the Pokemon you left at the daycare can breed with each other, once you leave your 2 Pokemon at the daycare center, a random number between 0 and 255 is chosen, the number decreases by 1 every time you take a step. After this number reaches 0, another random number between 0 and 255 will be chosen. This number will be explained next, it decides if you get an egg or not. Also, these numbers are computed inside the game, you never actually see these numbers.

If the 2 Pokemon that your are trying to breed are the same species, and they have different trainer ID numbers, then the random number (the one mentioned in the paragraph above) will be compared to 254. If you talk to 1 of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, it will say "It appears to care for (The other Pokemon)."

If the 2 Pokemon that you are trying to breed are the same species, and they have the same trainer ID numbers, the random number will be compared to 177. If you talk to 1 of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, it will say "It's friendly with (the other Pokemon)."

If the 2 Pokemon that you are trying to breed are different species, and have different ID numbers, the random number will be compared to 128. If you talk to 1 of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, It will say "It's friendly with (the other Pokemon)."

If the 2 Pokemon that you are trying to breed are different species, and they have the same trainer ID numbers, the random number will be compared to 51. If you talk to 1 of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, it will say "It shows interest in (the other Pokemon)."

If the 2 Pokemon can't breed, the random number will be compared to 0. If you talk to one of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, if it is incompatible with the other Pokémon it will say "It has no interest in (the other Pokemon)." If the 2 Pokémon can't breed because they are "related," (which means they have the same Special and Defense DVs) then it will say "It's brimming with energy!"
If the 2 Pokemon can't breed, the random number will be compared to 0. If you talk to 1 of the Pokemon while it is in the daycare yard, it will either say "It has no interest in (the other Pokemon)." or "It's brimming with energy!"

Reasons why Pokemon won't breed...

2 shiny Pokémon can't breed

The 2 Pokemon are the same gender.

The 2 species of Pokemon can't breed with each other, for example, a Meganium can't breed with Seaking.

They are incompatible, if they are incompatible, it doesn't mean that those Pokemon can't breed, it just means that they can't breed with each other.

They are both genderless, and neither one of them is a Ditto.

2 Dittos will not breed with each other.

Baby and Legendary Pokemon can't breed.

Now, look at the descriptions above, and find out which one match the 2 Pokemon that you left at the daycare. If the randomly chosen number between 0 and 255. (The one mentioned in the red paragraph above.) is lower then the number next to the descriptions above, then an egg will be waiting for you at the daycare. So in other words, you will have the best chance of getting an egg quickly by breeding 2 Pokemon that are the same species, but have different trainer ID numbers. If the randomly chosen number is lower then the precalculated numbers next to the descriptions above, then congrats, because you will get an egg! But if the random number is higher, then the entire process written in the red paragraph above will start all over again. Once again, all of these numbers are calculated inside the game, they are not visible to you.
