Stuck on S. S. Aqua

hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me, if you could i would be very very grateful. I'm playing Pokemon gold and i have defeated the elite 4 and boarded the s.s. aqua. I have fought all the trainers on the first floor and been told one man's grandaughter is missing. I went up the stairs and the way was blocked by a man who asked me to find his friend who was goofing around. I have looked everywhere and spoken to everyone on that first floor and been unable to find the girl or his friend and am getting very frustrated. Have I forgotten to do something? Also the ship departed on Tuesday is there some fault with my game?

The missing ship mate is in the cabbin right next to yours, (if my memory is corect) after you battle him you should be able to go down to the lower deck, search the lower deck for another staircase (the one you did not come down by) and go up it, you should be in a room with one cabbin in it go in it an there you will find the captin, and the missing little girl.
