As Ash and his friends walk through the woods, Max notices the PokeNav flashing, and realizes they’re right near Verdanturf Town! May looks pretty optimistic and ready to compete for her second Ribbon. Suddenly, they run into two workers patrolling the path (J&J, but they don’t recognize them as usual). They’re holding a caution sign saying the road is blocked and they should go around. They do so, but suddenly, the ground breaks loose and they fall in! (Back to the old pitfall strategy again, eh?) Then they reveal themselves as usual, and toss a long net into the bit to catch Pikachu. However, everyone else grabs on as James fishes them all out without even knowing it!
As they realize it seconds later, they challenge to a battle. J&J send out Cacnea and Seviper, while Ash sends out Torkoal. Seviper tries a Bite, but Torkoal easily evades it with Iron Defense, as Seviper hurts its fangs on it. A Flamethrower from Torkoal helps damage Seviper even more. Cacnea then tries a Pin Missile, but Torkoal is still in Iron Defense mode, and easily absorbs them. Then, May sends out Skitty, and has it try a Doubleslap on Seviper, but Seviper easily uses its tail to knock Skitty out of the way, as it lands right on Torkoal’s back! This startles Torkoal, as it lets a vent of smoke out of its shell, blowing Skitty into the air and almost suffocating it. May decides to let it rest, but Seviper is busy getting ready for a Wrap attack. But then, Brock sends out Mudkip and knocks Seviper back with Water Gun, and blasts TR off!
But their troubles aren’t over yet, as Skitty seems to be choking! Brock and Max realize it must have been from the smoke of Torkoal, when it startled it. Torkoal then cries in apology when it realized what it did. Anyways, they agree to hurry to Verdanturf Town as quick as possible and get to the Pokemon Center.
When they arrive, they seem to have trouble finding it, so they ask a passing lady. Unfortunately, she breaks the news that Verdanturf Town does not have a Pokemon Center. However, when she notices Skitty’s condition, she tells them that there is a Pokemon Medical Clinic where people go for emergencies, so she directs them there.
When they get there, they notice a trainer walking out with a Makuhita, thanking someone. Then, Brock realizes that it’s probably his kind of place, being passionate about Pokemon breeding and care and all. As they walk in, they suddenly hear a loud thumping noise that’s shaking the whole house! A few moments later, they realize it’s only a REALLY chubby girl who got her Aron taken care of. Then, a young woman greets them, and introduces herself as Ayane, the person in charge of this place. Brock immediately gets the hots for her and starts doing his usual moves, with Max pulling him off. Then, May gives her Skitty, and explains the condition of it and how it was from Torkoal smoke. Ayane comments on how cute Skitty is, then has it open wide for a few seconds… and decides to give it a small massage, since that would apparently be best. Brock starts to show some interest in this technique, as he explains that he’s becoming a breeder. After a few minutes of massaging, Skitty is suddenly feeling better again and breathing normally! May thanks her, and Brock does his act again by commenting how good a job she’s done.
As they head out, May suddenly notices something of interest on one of the desks. Against the wall, leans a photo of Ayane and a Skitty, and with her, a trophy! No wonder she’s so good at handling Skitties. Brock then recognizes it as the Ribbon Cup, which must mean she marched in the festival, which must mean… she’s a Contest champion! May then immediately begins searching, and when she finds what she wants, she pulls out a book on Pokemon Coordinators. She then turns to the page of Ayane and her Skitty (named Joanie), and learn that she’s not only a champion, but also a famous legendary Coordinator! May then remembers that she’s actually heard of Ayane a while ago, and always wanted to meet her. Suddenly, Ayane, who has been listening to them, is very flattered and decides to show them her Contest stuff and maybe give May a few tips.
She takes them to her room, where they see the trophy as well as SEVEN ribbons! Then, she explains how Joanie’s main talent in the appeal contests was juggling balls with its tail, and how it always got her 30 points. Also about how her battles skills were great, and how she beat a Kirlia by using Doubleslap, a Zangoose by using Blizzard, and a Swampert by using Solar Beam, and many more, and basically how Joanie was taught a lot of moves, suited to win every battle nearly. And with that, she and Joanie won the championship and became famous.
Impressed, May wants to meet Joanie, but first Ayane has more to tell about later after winning, and her medical clinic career. One day, she went out training with Joanie, and suddenly it got dark, and a storm started. Then, she came across a trainer in the dark and challenged him to a battle (it was dark so you could only see a silhouette, but the shape is clear he was using Flygon). Joanie used Iron Tail, but Flygon countered with a Flamethrower and easily beat Joanie, as she tripped and fell, injured and roasted. Running through the storm, Ayane rushed towards the nearest clinic (all the Pokemon Centers were too far away) of Dr. Masuda. He gave Joanie a long massage, and after a while nursed it back to health. Then, she decided to stay overnight, since Dr. Masuda and Joanie seemed to be good friends, and Ayane was interested in this healing technique. So she stayed for a while with Masuda, learned a few lessons on how to go about this, and practiced on some Pokemon. After a few months, she mastered it, and Masuda was retiring and offered her the job, which she gladly accepted. However, Masuda had one more present to award her with, which was a Moon Stone. Ayane used it on Joanie, and Joanie then evolved from a Skitty to a Delcatty! She gladly thanked him, and started working here ever since.
Impressed at the story, May asks if she still has Joanie, because she’s always wanted to meet a Delcatty. She still indeed has her, and takes them out to the backyard where she usually hangs out. Joanie approaches, and May checks the ‘Dex, who says that Delcatty are said to be the most beautiful and attractive, and popular among opposite gender Pokemon. May indeed agrees with that, and hopes she could evolve her Skitty someday.
Meanwhile, J&J are spying on them from the bushes, and are impressed at Delcatty’s beauty and decides to capture them. However, Meowth, who still has a thing for Skitty, wants to steal both of them and present it to the boss, since Skitty has SOME use not evolving. J&J gladly agree, and get to the case.
Back at the lodge, Skitty and Joanie are playing together, and Skitty gets into its usual routine of chasing its tail. Then, Ayane decides to test May’s Skitty’s juggling skills. She throws one ball, and Skitty easily starts bouncing it. A second ball, and Skitty easily juggles them both! Ayane claps, and talks about how Skitty was a good coordinator choice… but May says she’s actually only used Beautifly both times. Next, May tries getting Skitty started on juggling.
Suddenly, J&J appear at the door disguised as trainers, with Meowth wrapped in bandages. So, it’s clear to Ayane they want Meowth healed, as they say it has a sore arm. So, Meowth climbs on the table, as Ayane starts to massage… while J&J sneak behind the table on Skitty and Joanie. Meowth does his best not to talk aside from “Nya-nya” while J&J lure the two kitties. Just as they get the collars on, however, Meowth gets so involved and comfortable that he can’t help but comment on how it feels good… thus giving them away to Ash ad co. Then J&J have no choice, so they reveal themselves and Jessie sends out Seviper to distract them with Haze. While they get out, they escape on the balloon!
As they chase, Joanie desperately tries to escape by Tackling the balloon, as Skitty sits there helplessly. James then gets nervous since the Tackles shake the balloon, and tries calming it down. But to no avail, as that makes Joanie even angrier, as its tail starts to glow and it uses a Solar Beam, breaking the balloon and knocking them down! Ash and co desperately run and try to catch them, but they easily escape from the balloon and land safely on the rocks. Since Joanie is a lot more stable, she runs while Skitty jumps in her back, and they reach the bottom safely. J&J then land by them, and Ash and co come running with Ayane. May and Ayane remove the collars from them as they prepare for battle, as J&J send out Cacnea and Seviper again. Ash is about to use Treecko, but Ayane gets in his way and says she wants to handle this. Seviper tries to Bite, but Joanie easily jumps and avoids it while bouncing off Seviper’s head. Then Seviper tries to Wrap her, but she easily slips out. Joanie then easily avoids a Poison Tail from Seviper with a Safeguard. Then Joanie uses a Thunderbolt, hitting Seviper on target and paralyzing it. Cacnea tries to attack with Needle Arm, but Joanie quickly fires a Solar Beam from its tail and hits Cacnea hard before it can get any nearer. Once again they try Needle Arm and Poison Tail, but this time it’s May’s turn to battle with Skitty. Skitty easily Tackles Cacnea out of the way, but Seviper’s Poison Tail owns her. Ayane then tells May to quickly have Skitty use Blizzard, but unfortunately she never taught it that attack. However, she then tells her that now is her opportunity, so she has Joanie use it to demonstrate, and easily hits Cacnea! May then tries to command a Blizzard attack, but Skitty looks all clueless. Ayane then tells Skitty to watch Joanie and then try, so Joanie uses it again… and then Skitty tries to use it, but all it manages to get out are a few frozen bubbles. They decide to work on it later since Seviper is closing in with another Bite attempt, but Joanie easily drives it off with a Thunderbolt. May has Skitty try the Blizzard once again, but this time it actually does pretty well and also hits Seviper hard! Ayane congratulates her, and as J&J try the Needle Arm/Poison Tail combo again, they both use Blizzard, freezing them and knocking them back. A final Thunderbolt from Pikachu sends them blasting off.
Having taught Skitty a new move, May thanks Ayane. Max then understands how she really is a legendary Coordinator, and May has decided that in this Contest she’ll be using Skitty instead of Beautifly, now that it can juggle and use Blizzard. Perhaps someday she’ll follow Ayane’s steps and become a legendary Coordinator as well, and maybe even evolve her Skitty. Ayane also seems a bit interested in giving Brock some breeding tips, and that sure does brighten his mood up. As they say their goodbyes, Ayane wishes May luck in the next contest!

Brilliant episode! I'm still so surprised Skitty learned Blizzard, and hope that, in the future, Skitty evolves to Delcatty!

Awesome. I like how Skitty learned Blizzard during the battle, getting May some extra experience in non-contest battles. It's cool how Ayane's Delcatty knew lots of TM moves, since there are so many times when the Pokes we see in the anime only use moves they learn naturally. Also, May seemed to like the idea of evolving Skitty, which was very cool. She also liked the idea of having a Combusken back in the Poochyena/Mightyena episode. Good job with the summary.

Hey Wyanut makes a appearance. And this episode, seems to be chaning my mind about Skitty, I used to hate the thing.

Also do you think the Flygon guy could come back in another episode, maybe he works for TM, since Flygon learns some fire techs.

Oh, my goodness, I just had a thought! :o Do you think that guy with the Flygon could be the same guy as the "phantom masked coordinator" in the next episode?

I'm sorry, no.

(or maybe he is? I look up information on serebii.net and this was my best guess)

Ehh, Serebii.net doesn't really have the best information, it's not deep enough.

Anyways, the boy in the preview seems like a nice kid, and the guy with the Flygon had a totally different hairstyle, and looked older. But, hey, Pokemon's surprised us so many times before, so there could be a big chance that it's him. :o

Any of you guys ever seen Robotech: The Macross Saga? The Flygon trainer's silhouette was a dead ringer for Ben Dickson.
