What is with all of the stupid games????

Lately, I have been disatsfied with video games. They are all either too easy, ridiculously dumb, or extremely repetitive. Lets take for example...recently I've played...
-DBZ Budokai: Odd gameplay, fun until done everything humanly possible. And I have little challenge in the 2 player mode also.
-Pokemon Gold/Silver- Lots of replay...but I'm tired of raising these creatures to level 100. I have about 21 or 22 level 100's...that's enough for me.
-Sonic Advance- 6 stages=TOO SHORT! Getting the emeralds was a challenge for me, but the boss as S. Sonic was also simple.
-Street Fighter- I've played about every SF game made, and Third Strike is actually very good. But I've beaten it too much.
-Mortal Kombat DA- Good...but HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU BEAT SOMEONE TO DEATH (literally...on this game...) AND NOT GET TIRED OF IT!

Don't get me wrong, I like these games...but you can only play them so much! And absolutely nothing is starting to appeal to me, like the advertised mainstream games seem...bad.

So to make a long story short *which I did a terrible job at...* Are there any recommended GREAT games I can play. Chances are I may have played it...but I'll reply to recommendations to let ya' know if I have or haven't played it!

Thanx!

Well, uhm. Those games are, uhm. Kiddy-ish. Well, that is the basic point of video game play... repetiveness, I mean, who makes a fighting game that ends up being a RPG? ;\

You have been doing video games too much to the point where you might actuallybecome an adult as a VG hater ;o. Get a book and read. Or find a whore to pimp. Do something, then go back to VGs.

If you still feel addicted to VGs, try some games that are more mature and RGP-ish, such as FF-X or something, those are fun.

DBZ Budokai is awesome if ur a DBZ fan, it's a lot better then the other DBZ games at least. The others, especially pokkeemans, are just stupid and I wouldn't even bother renting them.

I actually think that Dr. Muto seems pretty stupid. I actually hope that games like that don't give the video game industry a bad image. Let's just hope.

I haven't been addicted to games...these are just the ones I've played since a little before Christmas.

In response to CB:

If you still feel addicted to VGs, try some games that are more mature and RGP-ish, such as FF-X or something, those are fun.

I hated FFX, only thing I liked was Blitzball.

Something more Maturish...you say: like Grand Theft Auto VC? Haven't played it...have you? If you have let me know about it.

Well, uhm. Those games are, uhm. Kiddy-ish.

Really? Mortal kombat DA, rated M by the way, is kiddy-ish? WOW! Didn't know that....

Get a book and read

I've read almost 2 books for school. And 3 on spare time since Late December. NO more reading.

Or find a whore to pimp. Do something, then go back to VGs.

Now, that's an idea....j/k.
But can anyone recommend a GOOD game? Prefereably for PS2 or GBA...
Thanx for your help....sorta.

Well, most of the games you're ragging on are old...BTW Grand Theft Auto: VC isn't all that its cracked up to be. It's more enjoyable than FF X ,in my opinion, but it's still hype-driven fluff.

There have always been stupid games, you just notice it more after you have played alot of them. Maybe you should try playing some fresh games, because the examples you have displayed aren't exactly new concepts.

DBZ Budokai: You said it was fun until you did everything, which I assume takes more than 0 hours, so you must have had some enjoyment to keep playing. Additionally, you expected a DBZ game to be groundbreaking?

Pokemon Gold/Silver: This is a sequel to a rehash based entirely on levelling things you capture.. how could you expect it to not be boring?

Sonic Advance: Yes, it is short, but it is also a handheld game. It did deliver some interesting elements.

Street Fighter: If you have played every SF game ever made, you would have realized that Capcom loves to milk this franchise for everything it is worth.

Mortal Kombat DA: More franchise milking, but it does deliver a fresh look on the franchise, there are lots of things to do, but it is easy to get bored with a concept you have already played for hundreds of hours.

You are really looking at the wrong types of games, if you want freshness. Fighting games, and Pokemon.. more repetition only exists in PC MMORPGs.

As for suggestions, what formats do you play games on? Which genres do you prefer? Do you play PC games? There are many new concepts in many games on that format.

For GBA, Advance Wars is a fairly long game, it is definitely not easy, and has varied gameplay due to the strategy aspect. Metroid Fusion isn't all that hard, but it has a good length for a portable game, it has a good story, and fun gameplay. Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land has superb gameplay, the single player quest is not that long: but it also has many secrets and alternate modes for increased replay value.

I'm guessing that since you don't like repetition, you won't like most of the GBA RPGs, but there are a few decent ones out there. A Link to the Past is the best game ever, of course, and the SMA games are pretty good, but you have probably played them before.

Lengthy, difficult games, are not common on GBA, because they have to be portable. Your best bet will probably exist with the PS2, but I can't help you there.

To add to what kurai said, the castlevania games for GBA are very good. Gameplay is repetitive but the games have a decent challenge and CotM has 4 extra game modes for replay value.

For PS2 I sugest Devil May Cry. The game is one of the hardest games on PS2(IMO). GTA:VC while not the best game ever as many people say is at least worth a rent. You seem to like pokemon(or did), so maybe give monster rancher 3 a chance. You might run into the same problem you did with pokemon when it comes ot raising monsters, but they have a limited amount of time to live so you have to put more choices into how, where, and why you are training your monster.

Thanx Virtual Reality and Pants The Miltank! Your suggestions were actually helpful.

I'll give tht games you suggested a chance and see If i like them.

BTW, I do have a PS2, so since that really does seem to be my best chance...I'll be more patient, However...I can't wait for Soul Calibur 2!!!!!

Thanx for your help!

No offense but you're complaining for stupid reasons. Replay value isn't going to come easy when time and money is spent making graphics and gameplay better. Budokai and Sonic Advance I can understand but.....

Pokemon is fun when you're playing the quest. All RPGs tend to get boring after you beat them and collect the hidden stuff, doy! At least you can battle other players in Pokemon and Golden Sun if you have friends.

Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are fighting games as we all know, what you're whining about deals with every fighting game made. If you don't like beating people up constantly then don't play them. What do you want, a game that has 100 opponents to face? Ain't gonna happen. You're psyched about Soul Caliber are ya? Hate to tell you this but you're going to get bored of it too.

You ought to replace the word you so ignorantly use 'stupid' with 'short'. Why don't you take up programming, see how much fun it is to make a video game, a good one even, with holiday deadlines, only to have people call it 'stupid'.

I don't like GTA for many reasons but I don't complain if other people are enjoying it.

If your a fan of Metal Gear and don't own Sons of Liberty then hold onto a little cash. The PS2 version of MGS2: Substance is suppose to be released on Marth 5th. That game is the one and only reason why I've held off on getting SoL and I can't wait.

I agree with you, but I wish fighting games had more replay value. Do you know of any that do? Maybe that would help.

OK. I don't think I was using stupid ignorantly...I was using it with little remorse. I can replace it with short because it is more logical. I could take up programming maybe to expirience it.

All in all, I actually respect your opinion. (No matter how harshly or sarcastically you say it....but that's OK.) What you have said is quite right. However according to your opinions its sounds like you are a Game Developer or Programmer...are you? If so, maybe you could recommend more great games...a lot of people have here.

Thanx for your thoughts....they were quite helpful.

I'm a game developer in the works, ie college.

Sorry if I sounded harsh but you remind me of my cousins, they get on my nerves very badly. I'm not saying you're just like them, that post just reminded me of them and my frustration at school.

Suggestions? Hmmmm.

If you want replay value, lots of RPGs offer that. In the handheld department get Golden Sun and it's sequel come March. It's a very original RPG plus after you get done beating the game you can face other people at it, and go around collecting the dijnn and weapons you missed. Plus you can buy and sell armor to earn game tickets just to play the slot machines, which hand out the niftiest equipment. Basically it's very easy to play but fun and deep at the same time.

Kingdom Hearts is repeative in the battles but it's fun trying to collect all the weapons, dalmations, locking all the worlds, etc... At least it pays to earn your way to level 100 in this game because that's the only way to learn all your abilities. Plus there's the Olympic Colliseum which lets you face practically the enemies you've encountered and then some. Dual Hearts is cool and original but very linear to a fault. If you don't mind linear games, I say give it a shot. Dark Cloud is long and the feature about rebuilding towns was fun but it's very frustrating when it comes to keeping your weapons from breaking. If you like a challenged, go for Dark Cloud. I personally love action RPGs, to the point I even bought Harry Potter, which, while fun, was very short and easy. I don't think you'd like Shenmue ll, it's very long and boring at times when you're in between stuff like fighting and gambling.

As for fighting games, the ones that do have replay value usually lack in the gameplay! Wait for Soul Caliber 2, at least it has missions and a point system(if it's like the original) to earn stuff. Even if you don't like wrestling, try a wrestling game, preferably Smackdown 4. It's fun for the following reasons: 1) You really have to play a lot to get your timing down, you can't hold down the block/evasion button, you have to press it at the right time. Once you get your timing down with a favorite wrestler, no one can touch you. 2) It has a pretty decent story mode. A quest to become champion in wrestling doesn't compare to fighting demons for the fate of the world but it gets interesting. It gets quite humorous and intense 3) There's replay value in the fact you have several championships to earn, many differnt kinds of matches to compete in, lots of stuff to unlock and the best part of all is the create a wrestler. That's how I got my username, from my CAW in wrestling games.

Extreme sports games are fun too. The best to go with of course is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 and Aggresive Inline. The create a skater features are fun(I have a So Fly Supersky for those too) plus both have hundreds of tricks to pull off, complete with missions to accomplish. Stay away from the BMX games, especially BMX XXX since it's all toliet humor with no improvements over it's already poor gameplay in the past. Also avoid any skateboarding title other than Tony Hawk. Wait for 1080 to be released as well, although I have no idea what systems it will be released for.

As for shooters for PS2, I've only played Timesplitters 2 and Nightfire(you know, James Bond). Mabye I'll get back to you on those since I haven't beaten them yet, so I don't know what the replay value for them is. So far they're pretty good.

Do you have a PC for playing games? That really opens up some options there.

This is interesting....

I like Golden Sun, and can't wait for the sequel! I also like Kingdom Hearts. A friend is letting me borrow that one! I love the SC series and posted on another post to find out when SC2 going to come out...so I'm waiting for it. I'm not into the x-treme sports games...and like some of the shooters. Which shooters are the best?

Also you said your a in college for game developing...Is it fun? Lots of hard work? just wondering....possible hobby/alternate career option....

Programming certain things in certain languages is fun. Other times it flat out sucks. Programming involves a lot of memorization but at the same time calls for a lot of ingenuity and creativity. Making simple programs with Java, XHTML and C++ are pretty fun if you know what you're doing. Really, if you pick up on things pretty quick it's quite easy. My profesors drone on so it takes some help from my classmates before I really grasp everything but once you do, it's like math, it becomes fun. Animation classes are pretty easy, but video game companies need more than just animation specialists. They need guys to make game engines, I don't have much experience there but it sounds hard.

Right now I got a part time job play testing games for an up and coming company. It's not really that fun. You gotta move your characters into every possible spot and perform every possible action. I tend to get a little happy when I do find a glitch.

Shooters.....I didn't like Timesplitters because of the new Halo-like joystick controls but other than that, it's pretty decent. Like Goldeneye when it first came out, at least Timesplitters 2 has real missions unlike the first game. They're not on the level of other mission based shooters if you ask me but they're good enough. I definately suggest Nightfire as well.

Thank you everyone who posted here!

I have looked into all of your suggestions, and I liked almost everything suggested. Also so fly supersky, thanx for the info on the game development stuff. Animation would probably be a better option for me. But I never rule anything out....

Also, a lot of people suggested Devil May Cry 2. Since it isn't out yet....should I play the first one? Are they similar enough, that I can see if I will like number 2?

WTF ARE YOU DOING HERE!? IF YOU DON'T LIKE POKEMON,THEN GET OUT!

The games were what started the whole Pokemon craze.
Without the games, there'd be nothing else.

And G/S/C rules,it's not boring.I mean really,100 new Pokemon to catch(making it a grand total of 250),2 journeys in one,Animations in Crystal.shinies, the battles? How could you be bored with that?!

Weird Wobbuffet...
I am going to infer from your post that you are referring to me.

Maybe you missed some posts so I'll fill you in....
1)I said some games were stupid
2)people recommended good games
3)some people were slightly offended and decided to let me know
4)I understood and said "some games were short" instead of stupid
5)people recommended more games

That is all.

No one here dislikes pokemon...or we wouldn't be here. We just prefer to play other games. That is why this is in the Games forum and not the G/S/C forum.

Also, you ask how someone can get bored with G/S/C....it really isn't hard. Once you raise everything you like and battle enough...it gets tidious. But all in all...it is still fun!

So hopefully you understand...we don't dislike Pokemon...there's just much more to games than Pokemon.

Bah, pokemon is lame now. It was fun 3 years ago when it was somewhat new and exciting.

About Devil May Cry 2, I think it comes out next month. I am so excited about the second playable character.

Pokemon is not lame!Okay,so it hasn't exactly been popular as of late,(Damn you Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh!)and the anime has been slow lately,(darn fillers)but it still isn't lame. It's just gotten slow lately, but it will pick up once R/S comes out,I hope.

Whatever.I'm still blaming Digimon and Yu-Gi-OH for stealing Pokemon's spotlight.

And the Orange Islands may have been fillers, but at least they were good fillers compared to Johto.

I mean honestly,is there one thing you DO like about pokemon?
What I have been saying is if you don't like the anime, games,or anything else having to do with Pokemon, then why bother? That's like going to a Yu-Gi-Oh forum and saying that the games and the anime sucks.

Oh,and in case you're wondering, the one thing about PokemonI don't really care for is the card game.I'll collect them, but I can't play the game, because it's hard to understand.

Wobbuffet, Yu Gi Oh didn't kill Pokemon, Nintendo did. They cut off the games for a looooooooong time and when you cut off the root of a series leaving only the *gag* anime, you're asking for it.

As for games being boring, I tend to agree. Games are overrated nowadays like GTA3 (fun for a whole hour once your tired of rampages and realize the missions are bland and repetitive). I don't know if I'm falling out of videogames or what, but I can't seem to stick with a game for more than two weeks before getting bored with it unless it's online that is. I must have logged a whole 5 hours on my Xbox since I got it and that was mainly to watch a DVD. FF is repetitive crud ever since 7 and so far Pokemon R/S are rather tame, especially since it took how long to develop? Rarely does a game come off with a soul like Metroid and most game's character and story development can be written on a whole cocktail napkin.

It's a sad turn of events but hey, it's saved me money at least. Oh and if anyone wants my copy of Halo, they can find it at the bottom of a California landfill, I'll be finishing No One Lives Forever 2.

THAT is Multiplayer heaven. Too bad playing it alone sucks the big one. Sonic Adventure 2 is not bad for the you-and-a-sibling romp. Pokemon gets boring after a while, but the anxiety for has made me play Gold/and Silver all over again. Team Rocket's theme is cool, although they're WEAKINGS now...

Hey MC here...

I can't say I dislike pokemon...but it is going kinda slow....*waiting fo March*

Anyway, I understand W.Wobbuffet, It seems as if Yu-Gi-Oh killed pokemon...

For Example: I volunteer at my local Pokemon League, now the store made it Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh League...so (1% Pokemon, 99% Yugioh...) So now I get volunteer hours just to show up....

The kids are like: 'Do you have a Flame Swordsman, or Exodia?' And I'm like...What the .....Whatever happened to "Where's the holo Charizard?"

So Yu Gi Oh has taken over....

Can someone explain the story of yu g Oh to me? I 've read the Shonen Jump manga , and that is suprisingly entertaining, but the show is awful...

Shadow The Hedgehog
24th January 2003, 01:33 PM
Weird Wobbufett, have you ever watched Yu-Gi-Oh? It's very entertaining stuff. I'd much rather watch that than filler-filled Pokémon, if Pokémon was made up of Gym Battles and other important storyline episodes only on the other hand...

As for the games... Try and rent some, and remember: Fighters are hardly good for their replay values...
