Does anyone know what happens in the episode Parting with Pikachu??

ash gets to pallet town, and meets gary. gary wanted to go to houen and start with one pokemon, but decided to not go and becoem a pokemon researcher instead. so ash decided to be liek gary and start off with one pokemon. so he left all his pokemon at professor oak's, all except pikachu. ash gets new clothes from his mom, and he sets off for houen.

The episode is called Parting with Pikachu because all of the other Pokémon bid fairwell to Pikachu as they are left behind with Oak.

Gary a researcher? Sounds weird :)
But, after all, he is Oak's grandson.

I still can't stand with that "parting" thing: Ash will leave behind all his new GS pokémon as well as the older ones... it is the same story of Ruby and Sapphire...
Let's hope Pokémon does not become like Digimon where each new season takes place in a completely different universe.

Well leaving behind his old Pokemon at Oak's is hardly equal to having the show take place in a different dimension. For one who's to say Ash won't send for his old ones occasionally like he always has? And this season is quite connected with the past ones, its just a very important new stage in Ash's journey, hence why Ho-oh appears flying toward Houen in order to help Ash make his decisions.

Very hardly equal... if you watched Digimon Tamers you'd know that in that series the old one is just a "TV show"! We're not at that point with Pokémon (luckly :) ).
