Alright then, these are going to go up on the website soon enough (which you should probably bookmark, if you're playing in this BTW), but here are the official, not-quite-100% random (due to my preventing people from being forced to play their team-mates :P) round 1 (or one, or I, depending on your preference) pairings!

Pariah vs. silverserebii
LegoMahPokE vs. eccentrox
crazybone vs. Voodoo
Syberia vs. Kari and Mewtwo
Cow of Inferno vs. Clicky Pen
Phantom of Innocence- BF vs. Y2Jesus
artismarti{OMG} vs. cool_daddy

I'm still not 100% sure if silverserebii is playing- I heard that she might not. If she doesn't play, her teammate (Y2Jesus, I believe) is obligated to find a sub- both Vega and Gandalf are available, for reference. There's no deadline up yet, but there will eventually be one. Post predictions here, go battle on GSBot or NetBattle (using the extended log), and send the log to myself.

One last thing I may not have mentioned before: You are allowed to change teams from one round to the next. Not only does that mean that you can experiment, but it also means that it shouldn't matter who gets your log- even if I were to distribute it to the public (which I'm not going to do while the tourney is going on, and even then I won't give any out without the battlers' authorization). It also means that you can post any wins you're really proud of up here or elsewhere, as long as your opponent doesn't object.

Go ahead, then! :)

For those of you who've battled, mind e-mailing me the logs at ringwraith4@hotmail.com ? I can't access the GSBot server, and I'd like to see them. Not that I don't believe any of you- I just want to read the logs. They'll give me a better idea of what the rules are like, and an idea if I need to tweak them (minor tweaking, of course). I don't think I do, but it looks like OHKOs are making a huge difference. :/

Yeah, looks like I'll have to replace her... Y2Jesus has to choose from among the sub-like d00dz we have available, and you'll battle that person. Off the top of my head, Paradox and Gandalf are both available... once Y2Jesus chooses one, then you'll be able to battle them.

Yeah, you should really turn down the OHKO limit. It's causing too much of an advantageous position to the first person to get out a strong OHKOer.

On a side note, to everyone, I lost to Voodoo because she didn't have an INNT team ready, so we just used standard teams, and she won. So I didn't lose legit, that is.

GoldDraconian

Theoretically, it doesn't matter when you get your OHKOer out- it's how long it gets to keep going for that makes a difference. Although, getting your OHKOer active first never hurts...

GoldDraconian

Well, I believe that Phantom of Innocence knows him- you can feel free to request to her that she try to wake him up.

If he gives no response within a week or perhaps less, he's getting subbed- and that can be a warning to all of you. You either show up or you get cut. I'd rather not do that, but my hand is being forced at a certain point. It's your responsibility to get your matched done, not mine.

Y2Jesus- Sure.

GP, you are now free to hunt Paradox down for a game. Paradox, it is your job to try not to get pwned. Go ahead, then.

I think round 1 will end in a week or two unless we've got a large percentage of the matches unfinished. On the cutoff, somebody who's finished their battle and oath-bound to me will watch for arrivals on the cutoff date. If both people appear, they battle. If neither appears, they draw. Else, the person who was there is deemed "teh winnar" and the other person is handed a loss by default. There will be no quarter for people who simply never appear.

Eccentrox/Fantomguy, he's been awfully busy these days. I've seen him online once or twice in 2 weeks. I never even see him in school anymore. If I see him, I'll let him know that he's wanted for the the Tourney.

Y2Jesus- U're never on mIRC! Maybe we're in different time zones...

GP- I know ur opponent too in RL. If I hear from her, I'll let her know that u are looking for her as well.

Well, this puts me in a strange position. I just gave authorization for Paradox to play, then got a response recently from silverserebii. O_o She sent me the following:

"Ok, hi again

Is just that i have a problem. The problem is that i never see my opponent on mirc, what will happen if this up?

Well, i usually go online at 7:30PM weekdays

Or maybe you could tell me when my opponent is on, so i could try to make the time for the battle"

Well, now I need to figure out what to do. :(

Phantom of Innocence-BF

GP, I really doubt ss is bsing u. She has a really strict schedule in which her time online is limited each day. She IS on mIRC sometimes when u aren't, I know for a fact b/c I'm usually on when she is. Anyway, she'll be looking for u in mIRC more carefully from now on, she said.

BTW, besides P03 and GreenPikachu, do u use any other names on mIRC?

Green_Pikachu

im strictly on _GreenPikachu_ now.

Anyway, I'll hopefully be seeing u on mIRC sometime soon =D.

Does anybody care about this anymore? :(

Vineon
16th March 2003, 01:02 AM
True reality of online pokemon tourneys ;_;... they all die besides a select few.. very few of them, I'd say 10% of all tournaments survive.

People are lazy, they join tournaments to never even try to battle for it.

red13n
16th March 2003, 02:30 AM
Tournaments were cool back when they were a rare thing, and when people actually cared about winnig them. But shortly after the SMPT, tourneys turned into a fad, rather than a rare thing to look forward to. There was a new tourney everyday, so battling for them and winning just lost all meaning. Now there have been so many tourneys that no one gives a damn anymore. Online battling in general has lost all its competitiveness. I am not even sure RS will revive it with the current state of things.

GoldDraconian
16th March 2003, 10:50 AM
Didn't people say that GSC would never be as popular as RBY and stuff, too? I personally think that RBY and GSC are better than RS, but I haven't really gotten into the strategic stuff for RS yet, since it requires so much planning with the whole effort value thing going on and all... I might change my mind, but at the moment there's just too much to keep track of. RS seems pretty popular nevertheless, though...

red13n
17th March 2003, 01:24 AM
In terms of competition, there is none. Sure people will play, but competitively, nah.

Naas02
19th March 2003, 08:09 PM
I have an idea maybe if the boards hosted all of the tournies periodically instead of players then maybe the excitement of online battling would come back.

GoldDraconian
20th March 2003, 03:36 PM
According to red's theories, wouldn't that make things worse?

Oh, and how would having a board do it make it any better or worse than having it run by a player?

Naas02
22nd March 2003, 06:46 PM
Becuase there would be less of them and that would make them mean more

cd
23rd March 2003, 07:14 PM
hey guys i got my account back

anyway since some people won't battle i figure it's no big deal if you just deduct points off their teams and move on to round 2 ?

i mean i've seen Y2J and PoI on mirc at the same time multiple times but they havn't battled so yeah.

:-*

GoldDraconian
23rd March 2003, 09:33 PM
Well, nice to know at least one person cares... but I need to know how many people are alive and how many teams are now going to work with one person. :/ Everyone who's still goig to play, sign in here plz and let me know you exist...

Naas- If there were periodic tourneys, there would end up being more tournaments than now- they're quite rare these days- and there would be no way to prevent the player-made tournaments anyway, further increasing the number of tournaments rather than decreasing them.

cd

The players are the mortar holding the wall of the tourney together- if they are gone, the wall will fall.

GoldDraconian
25th April 2003, 09:12 AM
I'm afraid that you're trying to join a tournament that's dead. :(

This really didn't work out- I started it during Christmas holidays, thinking there would be enough time. Few players were willing to participate, and a team-based tourney with teams of two is kinda sucky. I had to do that anyway. Once we had enough people to play, it was two months later and I was extremely busy with some rather important issues (like, I dunno, picking the high school I'll be going to? Kinda an important thing there...), and there were problems with some players not doing anything (silverserebii was apparently busy, as she made no contact with anybody for a month, among other things). There were some subs, sort of, but I didn't want to throw them in while another player may simply have been busy for a few days. There were further problems with the rules (somebody, IIRC, didn't even READ the rules and so assumed that they were just the GSBot standard!), and I received I think two or three logs. Eventually, with no new games being played for weeks, the tournament fell apart due to bad timing, lack of enforcement on my part, and players losing interest or disappearing.

Which sucked, because IMO the ruleset is fairly solid. OHKOs should probably be 1 per team, though, as two per team leads to games being much more about abusing the OHKOs than anything else, rather than the intended "let people use OHKOs with restrictions so that the environment diversifies a bit". OHKOs can help balance Curse and counter the 00bers and reduce Blissey's power level- but multiple OHKOs goes beyond that and reduces the power level of just about everything else. :/

Maybe this ruleset could be used for another tournament sometime, one who's name does not stand for "I Need a Name Tournament". :( If it had a better name (like the CLST, FBMT, SMPT, etc), then it probably would have worked, too.

lol, you got enough sign ups just people werent really willing to battle. teh name doesnt really attract people though (at least not mean)
