Well this section has died recently. So let's have a deck discussion, about staple cards and your base decks.

A lot of people say there are only 5 staples, I'd have to disagree. Going by the Japanese metagame there's a 4 staple card loss. 3 Magics and 1 Trap:

Magic
Thunderbolt
Change Of Heart
Harpy's Feather Sweep

Trap
Imperial Decree

This'll rotate come September, which will be interesting. Some rumours are going around saying that Pot Of Greed and Angel's Gift will be on that list, Interesting no?

So just what are staple cards? My definition is a card that will fit in with Every/Most decks. So here is my list:

Theft
Cyclone
Black Hole
Early Burial
Angel's Gift
Raise Dead
Pot of Greed
Mirage of Nightmares
Apostles of Harmony
Cry of the Living Dead

Total - 10. That's what I think the staple M/T cards are. As for monsters:

Critter
Black Forest Witch

Total - 2. That's all that fits under the monster section for me. No matter what deck you are going to use one or the other, with the exception of 1 or 2 decks. I kept APS out because there's quite a few decks he doesn't belong in.

The base for my decks are usually this:

Magic - 14
1 Theft
3 Cyclone
1 Tempest
1 Black Hole
1 Early Burial
1 Angel's Gift
1 Raise Dead
1 Scape Goat
1 Pot of Greed
1 Enemy Controller
1 Mirage of Nightmares
1 Emissary of Obliteration

Trap - 5
1 Tidal Wave
1 Destruction Ring
1 Apostles of Harmony
1 Cry of the Living Dead
1 Holy Barrier - Mirror Force

Total - 19

That leaves me with a 21 card space to fill. Usually 17 monsters + a mixture of 4 M/T. It's a base deck so I always start with this and work from it. Sometimes drop the Tidal Wave, Enemy Controller and Scape Goat for other things but I pretty much keep to this.

What would you say the set of Staple cards are? and what's your base deck?

If staples are cards which I put in every deck, then there's very few. Raise Dead, Early Burial, Angel's Gift, Cry of the Living Dead, and Pot of Greed pretty much. I don't really have a base deck cept for those 5 cards, the rest is put in for support.

I don't go to many tournaments or anything (last one I went to I got thrashed in the first match by some guy who not only used a chaos deck, but cheated every chance he got :what: ), nor do I play online, so bear with me. My decks usually have the following:

Spells:
Mystical Space Typhoon (I only have one :( must buy a yugi evo)
Monster Reborn
Dark Hole
Pot of Greed/Graceful Charity (depending on if I use my chaos sorcerors or not)
Nobleman of Crossout
Fissure/Tribute to the Doomed (again, a CS issue)
Wicked Breaking Flamberge- Baou/Gravity Axe- Grarl (neat equips with good effects)

I don't have raigeki and I prolly wouldn't use it if I did, seeing as I play by the japanese ban rules nowdays (hence the lack of CoH)

Traps:
Waboku (an old classic)
Dust Tornado (anti-imperial, plus I only have one MST)
Zero Gravity (surprisingly useful, as I don't have many wabokus)

Once again, I lack a lot of staples. Another reason I don't go to many tournies

Monsters:
WotBF (so many good monsters to search for)
Sangan (good for a ton of monsters too, sees a lotta use in my bewd deck)

I haven't had a chance to use my brand new End of Anubis (first AST booster I got :D, 1st ed!), but once I think of how I can use it to its full potential, mark my words I will. The rest of my decks are highly dependent on my main theme, which is currently water (pity I only have one legendary ocean)

I generally agree on traps and magics, but not on monsters.

Monsters:

Witch of the Black Forest
Sangan
Tribe Infecting Virus
Breaker the Magical Warrior (blows up any m/t, too important to ignore)
Sinister Serpent (SO many combos for this card, it's priceless)

EX Virus is a must for Chaos Decks~ Allows you to drop a random light and dark main type creature into the graveyard for easy summoning of both CED and CS.

Yes Killer Snake is good as a effect but its not good enough to be consider a staple.
