It depends with the Sky Uppercut and Brick Break part. If you need power, use Sky Uppercut. It depends on the opponent's team. Wichever one appears most: Flyers or barriers.

The only occasions when I would use flamethrower is on something with monstrous staying power - i.e. Ho-Oh. Otherwise, I prefer fire blast for the extra power or overheat for hit and run.

Brick break is better than sky uppercut, but ONLY because of the side effect.
Dignity (n): the time elapsed between passing an attractive girl and turning around for another look.

    brick break>sky uppercut
    accuracy and removing reflect/light screen

    fire blast/overheat/eruption>flamethrower
IMO anyways very helpful for getting some things out of the way early on when your feeling eachothers teams out, unless its a sleeptalker or something... meh thats prolly just me though

Flamethrower and Brick Break are the better moves. Why use Sky Uppercut? It may hit Flyers, but it's still not very effective against them, and Sky Uppercut does miss sometimes.

I was a bit angry when I found out tyranitar couldn't learn overheat.

I prefer brick break. Fthrower/blast is a great move, but alot of people think overheat sucks when it doesn't. It's great for hitting things hard on the switch in(causing that extra damage with 45 extra BP). I would never use it on a fire pokemon though, although the thought sounds cool. Flamethrower with STAB is powerful enough, and if it gets STAB you would probably repeatedly use it over and over again.

it's a fancy name for the boost you get when your pokemon uses a move that's the same type as the pokemon

    Charmander - Ember
    Starmie - Surf
    Pikachu - Thundershock

What about Eruption? I think it's the best fire attack, of course as long as you have a lot of HP. Overheat, is really a 1-hit KO move, since using it more and more will prove to be useless, unless you switch out after using it twice, max. I prefer flamethrower out of all 3, because even though, powerwise it's the weakest, it's the best. Think about it, all of these moves have a catch. Overheat will lower you SPATK by 2 points everytime you use it, unless you switch. So like I mentioned before, it's a waste of moves if used in more than one turn. Eruption, is the strongest out of all 3 because it has a BP of 150 and ACC of 100, but the catch: you must have a lot of HP. For example, my camerupt had it for a while, and when I used it on a L52 or 53 Glalie, my camerupt only had 4 HP left, and it looked like Glalie had a little more. Well, it killed it right? Dead wrong! It did maybe 1/100 damage. So, be warned if using this. You MUST have a lot of HP left. I also must say, that why didn't fire blast get mentioned? Originally it's the best fire move. I like it, but only if either dire hit, sunny day, or sweet scent are used before. I hate it when moves don't hit.

STAB is not a fancy word, it's an acronym for Same-Type-Attack-Bonus, in which, say, Flamethrower used by a fire type pokemon will get a 1.5x strength boost. Realy, overall, I'd say Brick Break is better than Sky Uppercut, and Flamethrower being better than Overheat is all in useage. On Torkoal, Flamethrower is better, on something like, Ninetales, or Blaziken, I'd go Overheat.

I think it stands for Same Type Attack Boost. Like xvkarbear stated, if a Pokemon uses an attack that's the same type as itself, the attack is more powerful, 1.5x I think.
