    Default Nintendo DS or PSP???

I like the DS the best. It adds new gameplay features, is wireless and online, has a touch screen, is protected, cheaper, has better batery life, has a lot of 3rd party and is made by Nintendo. The only bad thing is that it can't play movies (they said that about the GBA and now we have GBA Video) and if the UMD's catch on, Sony can get ahead with media and PSP. The PSP doesn't have the clamshell and will get scratched more easily, plus has little battery life. Also, it advertises movies, when nobody is putting out UMD movies right now. Most people just switched from VHS to DVD. Even that took a while. When movie companys finally switch to UMD (if ever), it will be a while. By that time, the DS/PSP will already pass.

IGN, despite all saying that DS had the better games, voted on PSP as best (except one), yet continue to say "It's all about the games".

Another reason why we don't listen to IGN.

I don't see a point in the PSP's features, mainly movies. The mini-discs require you to buy new copies of you movies, which is both lame and means large movies may not fit.

The battery life for movies mean you may A) Change batteries during longer iflms B) Buy a battery pack to extend life. A is annoying, B is pricey and probably will make the Portable out of PSP.

Damn thing needs a screen cover, too.

Neither they are both clunky and won't fit in your pocket. Which is A HUGE TURNOFF.

The DS looks like it should fit in pockets just fine. It's not much bigger than a GBA.

XDDD....well currently I'm feeling the DS more. The PSP looks sleek IMO but sleek isn't enough in this business. The DS has its screen protected and that is one of the more important things to consider for me. For one thing, I usually don't carry my handhelds in my pocket anyways, I usually toss it in my knapsack or something, so it has to be able to endure bumps and whatever I encounter during the day =P.

Scratches on the screen bother me a lot. I'm not so much about the second screen on the DS though, I don't really see the point. It doesn't help too many games....maybe like a radar for games but like...yanno....not all games needs radars.

But yeah from what I'm hearing right now, I'm for the DS.

Both can fit in a pocket, but the PSP has no screen and uses mini-discs. Mini-discs are just not something I want to cram in my pocket. I'm also curious as to how the DS Stylus Pen is stored.

Come back in a few months and everyone can give you fuller opinions, as opposed to "well the PSP looks better," "the DS has a clam shell design", and the like. It's way to early to tell because no one has tried any of the games. Keep an open mind and wait a few months until they are close to launch and have more details out.

At the moment though, I think both of them suck. I'll be just fine with my SP because I don't really care for portable gaming. I'd rather keep the games 2D on the current Gameboy. If I had to choose at this point, I'd pick the DS, though.

I probably won't get either because I'm low on funds and unless the DS launches for $129.99, that is certainly more than I am willing to pay for a portable. The PSP of course is out of the question assuming the price stays at around $300.

Yeah... I was thinking of getting a DS, I already have a PS2 and I kinda feel ill about how Sony always seems to release games that capture my interest during the holiday season... -_- So my PS2 is gathering dust for now, at least until October... XD

I'd say DS looks more interesting. I trust Nintendo for the handheld market.

    Go go Nintendo DS

PSP will last 3 hours then it'll be time to recharge, wherea the DS should last a lot longer But i won't be suprised if the PSP sells well since most people are partial to Sony products regardless of quality.

    Default Nintendo DS or PSP???

    Here's my two cents.

PSP pro's: the screen will have godly resolution for a system that small, sleak design, the mini-analog stick will make playing 3D games on such a small scale manageable, with Sony backing it it will have large software support, experience of home console gaming on the go, ability to play movies on the go, wireless support(almost same tech as the DS's I'm pretty sure).

PSP con's: awesome screen is too vulnerable to nicks and scratches, Sony is famous for poor durability, limited battery life kills the point of it being a handheld with some games and definately with some movies, while the library will no doubt be sizable within a year it will be filled largely with console ports, and experience of home console gaming on the go.

DS pro's: clamshell design protects the dual screens, innovative dual-screen design with touchpad tech, excellent battery life, software support from key developers (while PSP will likely have more support overall, the DS has some of the best names in game design confirmed for it), Nintendo handheld durability, sleak design(though not quite as sweet looking as the PSP).

DS con's: lack of an analog stick will make playing 3D games very painful on the thumbs, will miss out on some of the bigger titles PSP will bring in, the likelihood that few to no game designers outside of Nintendo will figure out how to utilize the dual and touch screen technologies for for innovative gameplay outside of having their game menu's on the bottom touch screen.

My vote goes for the DS. I think the PSP will have more software come out for it but as is Nintendo's mantra, quality is more important than quantity. I predict that this race will be close to a dead heat. Sony fanboys may have higher numbers but even they have to respect solid gameplay and both systems should have an equal number of that regardless of the size of their respective libraries.

I'm going for the DS mostly but I may just get both. My DS fund is almost done anyways so I'll see how PSP does on its initial release.

DS though, has anyone seen Metroid Prime Hunters on that thing? That looks like it'll be great. Also I'm looking forward to that Mario 64 for remake and am hoping for one on Banjo Kazooie (or maybe another game entirely) and an Ocarina of Time remake. After that all games should be new and original.

Like i have already said, it will do well because it has Sony and Playstation slapped across it. People will buy it because of that, they will not care that it will probably have the battery life that last as long as, if not less then a movie nor will they mind that the DS will probably have better games. After all, it is teh playstation portable!!!1111111111

Actually more developers seem to be siding with PSP because it's easy to port PS2 games to it. Or develop for the PSP and PS2 at the same time.

I'm saving up for the DS. I like that it has two screens *drools* and can play GBA games *drools more* and has new games, like Animal Crossing DS *drools even MORE* and should cost around 150$! *turns into drool*

    I'm back.

I'm getting the DS because it has better battery life, has a 200% chance of having more games to my intrest, Nintendo is known for making quality products, I like the two screen design, I like Nintendo more, and whatever else I can't think of now. What's the point of having movies on something if it only has about 3 hours of battery life. It would be better to just buy a DVD player. I hope that was intended for you to have and adapter, but then again, I don't care.

Well, I think the best bet will ultimately be PSP, unless DS has a better release then gamecube did. Gamecube had a weak launch IMO, and thats why the majority of the people that own a Gamecube already own a playstation. Now this is just me talking but.... Anywho, back to the subject in hand. I personally will be buying both. If DS comes out with Mario 64x4, then it will have a huge launch like GBA SP. If they come out with weaker games to rush it, then PSP with its bigger games coming out like MG: Acid, and the NBA Street series, they will have a lead. If you look at the price of PSP you can almost say more bang for the buck, but... Its all how you see it.

More developers means jack. What matters is WHO'S developing.

DS has Nintendo, which automatically earns it big points. Not to mention that the two screens will hopefully scare away some of the morons that produced shit on the GBA. The PSP, however, faces the serious reality of being a dumping ground of Disney games and years-old PS2 ports.

Exactly. Despite the insane hype and consumer rush, there are literally NO launch titles that were worth screaming about. It wasn't all garbage, but Sony didn't have a Halo or Super Smash Bros. to brag about.

I remember one of the first games coming out for Gamecube was Luigi's Mansion. What game of Super Mario Game is it when your not super mario?! Yes it was good, but not as high quality as Mario 64 was when it came out. Even Mario Sunshine was all that better. If you bought a ps2 when it came out, you also know that 2 sports games came out at the launch, one being Madden, and the other NHL. Madden was already popular from previous versions and it truly showed off the capabilities of the system with its stunning graphics. Gamecube had to launch quickly because there was nothing to contend with PS2 when it came out. Didn't Gamecube come out like the next year or at least 4 or 5 months after?

Also... I think that the DS will sell out quickly because of that fact that its like an advanced version of the gba advanced SP. They only seem to improve when it comes to handheld designs. If I were Nintendo, I would stick to handhelds and maybe work a deal out with Sony to help design games for their next generation console. Sony IMO is the better system-maker, whereas Nintendo is the best at Handhelds. I don't think PSP will be the the Nokia device and be a bust, but... the low battery will surely be a problem with long rides and large games. Sure a game that is full of minigames would be fine, but if your playing games like football or basketball or any sport in general it may take an hour to play a team. Then what do you do, charge the darn thing?! DS will have a good launch if they have at least 2 decent games and 1 awesome game. PSP will also be good because once again... They did well with there console and have a following with that, why wouldn't a portable version of that be successful as well? Ultimately I think it will be a tie as far as which is the better system. If you like Nintendo more than Sony than DS is right for you... Consider this also... If you have 200 dollars, you also have to get a game right? So thats 250 easily. Then if you want some kind of adapters so that you can charge other places than your house your easily into 300 dollars when its all set and done. So really the price should be 300 for DS, and 400 for PSP. Thank you.

^Lest we ALSO forget: DS has about three months on the PSP. Not to mention that the GBA games are going out with a bang (*coughKingdomHeartsCoMsputterhack*). We also forget that the DS has a sexier new look, smacking away one of PSP's biggest advantages. I'm still worried about the lack of analog on 3-D (maybe the D-pad can be pressure sensitive?) but DS's new designs are so far good. I'm hoping the PSP can have good games too.

Most gaming sites estimate a November release for the DS (funny, I also remember KH:CoM having a possible release date there too) Price probably won't be anymore than 170, but I predict 150.

The Cube had Pikmin and Super Smash Bros. Melee like a week or two after launch. Frankly, that along beat everything in the PS2 lineup for 2000, but Gamecube also launched with Rouge Squadron 2 and Super Monkey Ball. Excellence.

Sony is the better system maker? That is wrong. 1:Gamecube has the classics and a few new originals. 2:Gamecube has better graphics. 3:The Gamecube is cheaper. So I think Nintendo is doing damn well in the console department. On a sidenote: PS2 is WAY overpriced. On another side note: I am not a Nintendo fanboy.

Maybe today, but compare the hype surrounding the PS2 to the X-Box. People were camping out for the PS2, while everyone was just taking bets on how quick the Box will die.
