Swapping records and cheat device usage

If I swap records with someone who has used a cheat device on their game, can it "cross over" into my game? Would I have to battle them (in their Secret Base) in order for this to happen? Would I have to battle them with their party having been Sharked/ARedin? I just want to make sure I don't screw up my game. Thanks.

It won't screw up your game, don't worry. I can't really explain the reasoning behind it, but it won't affect you.

I'd say it would really depend on what they had sharked. If they had sharked the particular data that is transferred (i.e. number of visits to pokémon centres), potentially it could have some effect. But I'd guess that the games probably do an error check before the actual transfer of information, to prevent the spread of corrupt save data. Carts *can* corrupt without being altered, after all (most likely due to physical damage).

If they sharked some form of Missingno and have it on their Secret Base team you might be in a bit of trouble when you battle them. Other that a few things other people have said it won't have much effect on your game unless it's being directly hacked.

Some of the people that I know Shark/use AR to get 99 of every berry (including Enigma Berries) and some hidden legendaries like Deoxys and Lugia. For all I know, they could have Bad Eggs/Missingno (I'd make sure they weren't in their team). I'm trying to keep my game clean... the only things that have ever happened to me to possibly corrupt my game were someone trading me a Feebas that I found to be holding an Enigma Berry and caught on the route right before the one on which it can be caught normally (I tossed the berry, checked the routes when I got home, and then released him) and I've blended berries with someone who had sharked 99 of every berry and Enigma Berries (they used a few of their Enigma Berries in the blending when we tried to make the worst Pokéblock that we could). These happened a little over a year ago, and I've never seen Missingno, Bad Eggs, or anything like that, and I want to make sure I don't in the future. Some of the people I blended with are the people I want to swap with, and I guess I'm still not sure whether to go ahead with it or not.

Don't worry, I've mixed with 3 people who've hacked at least one thing onto their cart. Provided they don't have BadEggs or Missingno. in their party you'll definatly be fine. No bad data such as incorrect codes will cross over, your game will just any appropriate data to use, such as copy of the party's important data (IVs, EVs, Moves but not OT and ID for example) and data for TV shows.
