Messenger Service Pop-ups

Hey.

I just installed Windows XP and 'Messenger Service' ads come up basically every minute and it gets a bit taxing having to close them. Can anyone recommend a program to prevent them popping up?

Seems a bit vague to me. A screenshot would help describe what you mean

Start -> Run -> services.msc /E

Find "Messenger" in the services list -> Right-click -> Properties

Startup Type: Disabled
Click "Stop"

Wait for the service to stop, then OK the remaining dialog box.
