And the 2005 Golden Pen Awards are here at last. For those who are not acquainted with TPM's fanfic awards, these are run twice a year, and everyone is free to be involved. The Golden Pens, held in July/August (or whenever we get around to it), mainly focus on the various fanfics in the forum, whereas the Silver Pencils in December/January are awards for outstanding members of the forums. First of all thank you to everyone who posted suggestions for these awards; as you will see your suggestions have helped and have been taken on board. Now for the fairly simple rules for nominations:

~ All fics in the main forum (not the Archive) of Fanfiction, and all members, are eligible for nomination.
~ One nomination per person per category.
~ When nominating a fic, include author, fic name and any other relevant information.
~ If, after nominating, you wish to change or add nominations, please do so in a separate post instead of editing the old post.
~ No self-nominations; quite self-explanatory stuff.
edit*~You don't have to nominate for every category. Even one or two is fine if that's all you want to do.

Good point to bring up. I think the main reason we agreed on drawing the line at the archive was as a compromise. The way I see it, once a fic is put in the archive by request of the author, it's retired. That should at least be the way it's looked at with the awards now. If someone finishes a fic, I guess they don't have to archive it right away if they know an awards are coming up. Yea, the authors who had their fics archived might not have seen it that way. If that applies to any of you who still want your fic up for awards (and please be reasonable regarding how long ago you finished your story) then let us know in this topic, and we'll see what we can do. If none of those authors have a problem though, then we can go on as usual . But at least now you all know what it means when you choose to immortalize your fic in our wondrous Archive.

No offense to Andrew, but why is everyone voting for EBTV? He's only created one new chapter in the past year and there are many other fics that are more active than his *shrugs* I know he's busy but one new chapter shouldn't warrant nominations

Dark Sage: Actually, I'm about ready to start catching up. But it's not the forum getting better that's going to let me read it. Actually, it's because I went out and bought a mouse with one of those little wheel things that Darien Shields mentioned so that I could get back to reading several fics that I haven't been able to. That's right. I bought a new mouse for this. So you know what? ...You owe me. *grins sinisterly*

Oh, and I nominated your fics based on what I could remember of them. It was tough to think that far back, but I think my choices made sense. Let me know if I did anything utterly idiotic like nominate Ophelia for Best Setting.


TML: Well, I tried to avoid nominating EBTV for that reason, but I couldn't think of anything that could steal the nomination away from it for Best Comedy Fic. I didn't nominate Andrew for anything else, though, because of his inactivity.

I nominated EBTV for a lot of things primarily because I like it so much. Yes Andrew's been incredibly inactive but I have found few fics which deserved nomination in my opinion. I can see exactly what you mean Becca, but I can't say I've read much comedy this year which made me laugh as much as Andrew's fic did (and still does).

Will add more later. Random note to self that some of these choices were made because my first choices had already been nominated, and I felt like giving a chance to more people who deserve awards. And also, it should be fine to use this thread as discussion. Regarding nominating more than a handful of people, well I tried my best, and I'm ashamed to say I had to browse through the forums about 15 times to find fics to nominate. It's good to nominate a variety of fics, but if something really stands out, go ahead and nominate it for however many awards it deserves.

In the past, all nominees had an equal chance at votes during the actual voting process. Redundant nominations were excluded. I assume that this is still the case, so it's important to read the nominations of others to make sure that you aren't wasting your selections.

Sorry I'm late. I was writing a critique paper for my Exploration of the Arts class, which, I must say, I really don't enjoy. I don't get to make art... I get to read about it and I get told what to think about it. =/

Anyway, the reason I asked is because there's no doubt that Gabi should get the Best Fantasy fic for QoT. I had a bunch of nominations for other awards for her in mind as well, but I thought I would feel kind of silly if I didn't nominate anyone else or read different fics =P I really do love her stories, but I must admit I'm not a frequenter of the Fanfic board.

Tomorrow, I'll search the forum for gems and see if I can't make a decent nomination list after all.

Hands down, though, I'm getting in two nominations straight away because I know my opinion won't change... The rest I'm going to do a little bit of research on.
