Chris 2.0 VS Dark Sage (Ref - The Missing Link)

I have small and big Pokemon so depending on my opponent I'll use a certain Pokemon.

I'll take ya on, Chris. I've got plenty of free spots. And I'd like to give my only fully evolved pokemon a whirl.

Okay, here goes...

I choose Lily, my female Ludicolo!

I choose you! GO!

Ludi has a difficult type combination. It took me a while to decide how to combat it.

Time for an old favourite...

I choose Bruno! [M Primeape]. Bruno, use double team to set up some clones. Next use aerial ace and end with thunderbolt.

Lily, while he's using Double Team, use Swords Dance.

Then, use Blizzard to wipe out all the clones, and hit him good.

Then close in, and use the added power for a Brick Break.

Now, all we need is a referee...

Round 1

Lily:100%

The round starts off with Bruno expelling a bit of energy to create many clones that start to completely surround Lily. As they whirl by, the Ludicolo ignores them and starts to sharply spin in a circle. A few moments later, she stops after realizing that Bruno isn't attacking her.

Going into attack mode, Bruno's clones disappear and he flies towards Lily, his right arm glowing brightly. He half slashes/punches her, which causes her to take a few steps back. She recovers quickly though and expels multiple shards of ice at the Primeape. He takes it in stride but his coat appears to take on a frosty appearance.

Both Pokemon shake the previous attacks off and prepare for the end of the round. Bruno crackles with electricity while Lily lumbers forward with her arms out wide. Bruno is first to release his attack and sends the electric bolt into the Ludicolo. She cries out in pain but continues her march and strikes out at Bruno with a double karate chop. His electric attack ceases and so does the first round, which proves to be quite eventful:

I ref attacks as close to the anime as possible (sans thunderwave, safeguard and a few others). Don't be surprised if the attacks work out a different way than you'd expect

Lily, first use your own Double Team.

Then, brighten the place up with Sunny Day.

Then, let him have it with Solar Beam!

Foresight to detect the real Ludicolo. Then use aerial ace and finish with an earthquake to disrupt Ludi's aim.

Round 2

Trying to use one of Bruno's earlier tactics, Lily creates duplicates which wordlessly surround Bruno in a blur. This doesn't deter the Primeape and instead of attacking, he uses another method to find the real Ludicolo. His eyes glowing a deep crimson, Bruno emits a red beam that washes over the clones and locates Lily by creating a red aura around her. The clones still remain but now Bruno won't have to guess where his opponent's exact location is.

With her presence located, Lily grumbles incoherently but moves on to the next phase of her plan. Holding her hands apart about a foot or so, she starts to create a shining red orb, more of a burnt orange to be exact. As soon as the orb grows to the right specifications, she heaves it up into the sky. As it gains altitude, Bruno comes it with his glowing hand and slashes her across the chest. The response to that is the sun shining more brightly than ever.

With the sun radiating more heat and light than before, Lily takes advantage of the large star and now has another glowing orb tinited a light green growing in front of her mouth. Bruno tries to stop her from attacking by stamping his foot on the ground, causing waves of earth to move about. This makes Lily release her attack slightly prematurely but it's still on target. In the end, both attacks strike their targets:

Excellent work Bruno. Start by summoning the rain, then I want you to use seismic toss on Ludiolo into the ground. Then finish with thunder.

Rain, huh? Just your kind of weather, Lily.

Use Water Pulse as he starts the rain.

Then, as he comes at you, do it again!

Then use Protect to shield yourself from that Thunder.

Round 3

Lily:65%

Bruno:76%
Rain Dance~Seismic Toss~Thunder

Both Pokemon are a little bit out of breath but Bruno doesn't want to stop so soon. He starts in the fashion that Lily did last round but with a beautiful royal blue orb rather than burnt orange. As he hurls the ball up into the sky, Lily releases her own orb of water that slams into Bruno and knocks him down. As he gets back up, the sky crackles with thunder and it starts to rain, first at a drizzle and then a downpour.

Bruno goes at Lily at a run but the Ludicolo releases another aqua orb that barrels into Bruno. Somehow, he pushes through it but it causes him to perform a Slam rather than his intended attack.

Both Pokemon get back up and this time, Bruno charges up with a large amount of electricity. Lily quicks mutters something under her breath and a transparents dome goes up around her. Bruno releases his electric attack but it just gets absorbed into the protective shield. He soon stops to try to regain some energy with Lily following in his steps:

Rain out for 2 more rounds

Lily, change the weather again, using Sunny Day.

Then, use Razor Leaf.

Then, zap him with Solarbeam!

When its summoning the sun, spit a toxic at it. Relax for turn two and combat the solarbeam with an amazing overheat!

Round 4

Lily:59% Starting to tire

Bruno:62% Starting to tire
Toxic~Relax~Overheat

As the rain pours down, Lily tries to summon the sun again by creating the rust colored orb and throwing it up into the sky. It disappears and then the rain begins to slow down and then stop altogether. As the clouds clear away and the sun peeks through, Bruno spits a nasty toxin at Lily and watches in satisfaction as it hits her and then sinks into her skin which then goes into the blood system.

Told to relax, Bruno kneels down but crosses his arms in an X pattern to keep him from harm. And it appears his style of thinking is paying off as Lily sends a barrage of razor edged leaves at Bruno. They slam into his crossed arms and push him backwards but he doesn't seem too worse for wear.

Lily pants a little while Bruno gets back up but both of them launch into their final attack. With the sun blazing in its glory, it allows Lily to charge up a Solarbeam quicker than usual. It also provides power to Bruno's powerful fire attack and both collide into each other, each attack pressing into the other for a few moments before an explosion occurs and knocks both Pokemon back a few feet and onto their backs. Dust was stirred up after the explosion but as it dies down, it leaves both Pokemon struggling to get up, the two battered from the blast. In addition to the damage from the collision, the poison starts to kick in and saps health from Lily:

Bruno:40% Battered but not as tired

That overheat really saps your strength so let's play this round easy.

Relax to get some energy back. Next use focus energy to keep your cool and finish with a mega punch.

While he's relaxing, I want you to do what he did to you - use Toxic.

Then, while he's using Focus Energy, strengthen yourself with Swords Dance.

Finally, plow into him when he comes at you with Brick Break. Fighters aren't the only ones who know how to scuffle.

Round 5

Lily:42% Poisoned (4% next round), battered and tired
Toxic~Swords Dance~Brick Break

Bruno:40% Battered but not as tired
Relax~Focus Energy~Mega Punch

Told to relax again, Bruno does so with his arms crossing his chest. Angered at being poisoned, Lily decides to take the route of revenge by spitting her own toxin at the Primeape. Unfortunately, crossed arms can't save him from being splattered by the poison and it too soon seeps into his skin.

Bruno becomes pretty angry at this but he is told to relax and focus on keeping calm. As he remains in the same position and concentrates, Lily starts to spin again but like last time, there is nothing to counter. It looks like a wasted move on her part.

Getting up and feeling better than before, Bruno charges at Lily, his right fist glowing pure white. Lily goes at him as fast as she can, but it looks more like a waddle than anything. Bruno is literally first to the punch as he swings in an arc and punches Lily on the side of her 'face'. She stumbles but recovers with two karate chops to Bruno's stomach. Both feel the pain from the fighting attacks and then the poison:

Sun out for 1 more round

Lily, take advantage of the sun by using Razor Leaf.

Then, since you're poisoned, hit him with Facade.

Then, rest for the remainder of the round.

By the way, I was under the impression that a Ludicolo danced rather than waddled.

It slipped my mind that they danced but I think when attacking an opponent, they really can't run so it looks like a waddle

And when you mean rest, do you mean the actual move or like relax?

Either way Ludi has stubby legs. I'm not sure about in-game but it doesn't look the quickest critter around. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Lets use a revenge after razor leaf strikes you. Then relax and use your own facade.

According to my guidebook, Ludicolo's average Speed is 50, which is average. Primeape's average Speed is 66, which is only slightly better.

Good to know, thanks DS. We've really dealt a load of damage in these 4 rounds. Whatever the outcome we'll have to have a rematch someday, yes?

Sure. We can have a rematch with more pokemon and more stringent rules. I've got a lot more surprises.

However, I want to earn enough from some other matches for a few evolutions first.

Round 6

Lily:30% Poisoned (8% next round), pretty tired
Razor Leaf~Facade~Relax

Bruno:33% Poisoned (4% next round)
Revenge~Relax~Facade

Both Pokemon are tired, one more than the other but neither are out yet so the battle continues. Lily releases more sharp leaves at Bruno, which hit on target. Small cuts open up but it's nothing compared to what Bruno's been through so far in the match. Fueled by the attack that just hit him, the Primeape rushes in and socks Lily in the face, knocking her to the ground. Like before, it's hard for her to get up but no one can tell if it's because of the damage she took or how her body is shaped.

Chest heaving, Bruno is told to relax again and does so, putting himself in the same position. Angered by the recent attack and the poison running through her body, Lily goes forward and tries to physically maul Bruno. Scratching and kicking as best as she can, Bruno yells in a combination of despair and anger and tries to block everything but she successfully inflicts pain onto him.

Of course, a lack of rest and physically exerting herself puts Lily into a state of exhaustion. She gets off of Bruno and collapses onto the ground, trying to gulp lots of air. Now it's Bruno's turn to attack and it so happens to be the same move. He jumps onto the poor Ludicolo and thrashes her as best as he can. Eventually, he too gets off and Lily pretty much looks like crap. Only after the poison does its job does she close her eyes and goes limp:

I didn't realize Lily would faint only until I calculated the damage and added them together. The Revenge and Facade did the most damage, and that added up to more than 20%. It was the poison that did her in though
