Default A frustrating turn of events...

Boy, am I glad NOTHING from D/P is anything like this situation I've gotten myself into.

I trade my Volbeat and Illumise from Emerald to LeafGreen and breed 'em with a Ditto, hoping to have a Volbeat and Illumise of that game's very own. Easy, no? WRONG! Apparently Volbeat and Illumise are programmed like Nidoran M/F, so that breeding of either one can result in the other. In this case, I got two Volbeats. Now I already had this headache in Emerald, with getting a bunch of Nidoran Ms before finally getting an F to hatch, so I figure I'll get an Illumise in time.......ten Volbeats later I'm cursing out my Ditto for using the wrong chromosomes. *sweatdrops*

Please tell me the law of averages will finally catch up with me and I'll get that Illumise. Also I'm glad nothing else in D/P has such a weird breeding problem as Volbeat/Illumise and Nidoran. The weird evolution methods are fun enough to deal with. Of course, you can catch just about everything in D/P alone with the right stuff, so that's moot...

I think that whatever one is the more dominant on a specific version, you'll get that one more often. In the case of Emerald, Illumise is more common so you'll have more of them hatch. As for LeafGreen, the female Nidoran are more common (you'll find males on Route 3 as well, although it'll take a while). There are quite a few Pokemon that show up more often in one version than another.

Huh. I've never heard that one before. Kinda freaky.

As for your problem... does the game randomly decide which Pokemon egg is created each time you go through the breeding process, or is it a fixed calculation based on what parents you use? If it's the latter, you may want to try switching at least one of the parents.

Either way, it couldn't hurt the ol' karma factor.

    Well think about it.
Volbeat and Illumise are on opposite versions from each other. If it was as easy as catching a Ditto and breeding it to Volbeat to get Illumise there wouldnt be much point in trading for them etc.
They will have made it deliberatly more difficult to get the gender opposites in those circumstances.

Well I changed up my strategy a little and caught a spare Illumise in Emerald, then sent it over to LG and bred it. Illumise on the first try. Either I REALLY needed to try that, or the game was just being nice for what happened yesterday. *shrug*

And personally I think they screwed up with the breeding ability of the Nidoran family in general. First off, random results regardless of who you used to breed. And then there's the fact that, for whatever odd reason, Nidorina and Nidoqueen are apparently sterile (and they did NOT fix this in D/P, for the record). As far as Volbeat and Illumise, they are related species so I guess it makes sense you can get either result.

Though I wish someone would figure out what kind of high-end math, physics, and programming goes into Wumple evolving into Silcoon and Cascoon... That's the only random thing, I think. Everything else has been figured out.
