    Exclamation

Alright.. I need help. I need to find out what is the best moveset for a Sceptile. I want to raise one from a treecko, so i need someone to direct me on how to raise it. Stuff like what nature it should be, its moveset, what would come out to be as an AMAZING SCeptile.

I want my sceptile to be and have:
-efficient in any type of contests( i like smart, beauty, or cool the best.)
    -a sweeper of some kind
    -have alot of ribbons
    -a good moveset
    -great at battling

and what nature and training required to have the best stats.

it sounds like a lot... but scepty is my FAVORITE so I really want a good one.

oh and a little off topic.. best way to get a shiny sceptile? and what are they methods? thank you soooooooo much to all that help me with this.

    A few things:
-First of all, which generation is this for, 3rd or 4th?
-This belongs in either the R/S/E/FR/LG or DP forum depending on the answer to the above. (A mod will take care of moving it)
-When adding something onto your original question when no-one has responded yet, you should edit your first post instead of making a separate post.
-And of course, welcome to TPM

OK, I can answer the shiny question. The only way for Sceptile is to keep trying. Each time you pick up or hatch your Treecko, there's a 1/8192 chance of it being shiny. There's really no special technique for getting a shiny, unless the pokemon is available in the grass in DP (then you can use the pokeradar trick). Of course, Treecko can't be caught that way, so luck is your only hope for getting a shiny one.

I also have a sceptile with this moveset, it's pretty strong but it has 3 grass moves.. so you might want to replace one.

    - Sunny day
    - Leaf Blade(you should replace this with aerial ace)
    - Solarbeam
    - Frenzy Plant

Sunny day allows it to use solarbeam without charging
Aerial ace is a move which always hits first and it's good against fighting and other grass types..
Solarbeam is a good move for contest(cool i think)
And frenzy plant for the sweeping..
    i think 3 are cool..

    Good luck^^

I'm not experienced at real competitive battling, but what I've heard a lot around here is that, if you want your Sceptile to have any real chance in tournament play, you need to give it the Dark-type move Crunch.

Good luck on this. To make a pokémon who excels at both battle and contests is far more difficult than anyone who hasn't tried it realizes.

Yeah, pretty much. So for your EVs, I'd go 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, and the other 6 in... something. Maybe Defense? It's either that or Sp. Defense, and the latter is naturally stronger.

    That's probably best. EVs: 252 Sp. Atk - 252 Speed - 6 Defense.

Now for the moveset. Crunch would definitely be good, and I'd also throw on Leaf Blade - for Sceptile, how could you not use that in a third-gen Special Sweeper set? For the third move, you pretty much have to go with Dragon Claw, I think... that's its only other decent Special attack.

Your fourth move... hrm. The only option I can think of would be Agility, to give you a little extra jump when you need it. None of the others seem well-suited to a Special Sweeper. (For some reason I thought it learned Dragon Dance, but I guess not.) Maybe a Hidden Power, but egh... I don't even remember offhand how that works with Physical/Special. I mean, I could see HP Fire/Water/Ice getting a bit of play, but... ergh. Agility seems better to me, because you shouldn't be setting up your Sweeper against massive, obvious type disadvantages anyway.

As for your hold item, you could go a few different ways. Your safest bet might be to go with a Petaya Berry, but I could see justification for a Choice Band or even a Focus Band. Probably your call on that one.

    Okay! So we have:

    Sceptile
    @Petaya Berry/Choice Band/Focus Band
    -Crunch
    -Leaf Blade
    -Dragon Claw
    -Agility/HP Fire/HP Water/HP Ice

Bear in mind that I do not profess to be an expert or even remotely experienced. I'm just going with what feels right based on the principles I know. Follow my advice at your own risk.

The next thing to look at, then, is Contests. How well does mr_pikachu's recommended moveset fare in Lilycove?

Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw and Agility are Cool moves.
    Crunch is a Tough move.
Hidden Power (any) is a Smart move.

Cool and Tough work well together. Tough and Smart work well together. Cool and Smart, though, don't get along. You won't amuse the judges for a Cool contest by using a Smart move.

There's one issue with the relationship between your contest stats and your battle stats: the suggested moveset is a Special Sweeper set, but you have more Cool moves than any other type of move. This is a problem because a Special Sweeper set like this favors a Nature that boosts Special Attack, especially Modest since you don't have any use for your Attack stat. A Cool contest moveset, however, favors Attack-boosting Natures, because Natures that boost Attack make it easier to raise the pokémon's Coolness stat with Pokéblocks. If you go with this moveset in order to be a battling expert, you could have your work cut out for you to raise Sceptile's Coolness to get high marks in a Contest's first round.
