Speed Run Pokemon?

I know that there is a guide to speed running the game already on here, but I was wondering what pokemon is the best one to use in a speed run?

The most commonly used one (as far as I know) is Nidoran(male). What if someone tried another pokemon? Like Pidgey? Or Cubone (after trading it to a new game).

What about... MAGIKARP????


Is anyone up for a speed run of the game using ONLY MAGIKARP? Or am I going to go insane by being the only one doing it?

As far as Gen 1 games go, your starter is typically best to speedrun with, since even the most convenient Pokemon needs to be captured first, wasting precious time.

Thanks! I'm currently doing a Nidoran speed run (hence my name) and I've gotten pretty far. You have to use Pokemon Yellow though otherwise Pewter Gym is IMPOSSIBLE.
