The 2009 Golden Pen Awards: Suggestion Topic

Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the 2009 Golden Pen Awards! It's a pleasure to have you with us as we celebrate the finest accomplishments across Fanfiction during the past year.

Before we decide who is deserving of a prized Golden Pen, there's a bit of business that we need to address. First things first: the categories! It's up to all the members of Fanfiction to determine what categories are worthy of being in the Golden Pens. Below I've listed all the categories from the 2008 Golden Pen Awards. If you'd like to see some sort of change -- namely, an addition to the list, the removal of a category, or even a name change -- let us know in this thread! We'll deliberate over your suggestions and improve the list as such.

You have until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 to post your suggestions here. After the suggestion phase has concluded, we'll begin the nomination phase.

You know, as I look at the categories, I notice there are no Genre ones.

Things like:
Best Surreal
Best Dark Fantasy
Best Horror
Best Suspense
Best Science Fiction
Best Historical Fiction

That's also a very short "Best Moments' Category" I think.
Most Suspenseful Moment
Best Cliffhanger

canon* :B I thought it be a good idea. I mean, anyone can write a fanfiction but useing the elements of that world so it seems flawless! That's fancy :B

The issue with that in some settings is that not everyone may know the elements of that world however. And won't know the difference between fan made and cannon events/people/organizations/ect...

Not everyone knows anything about Werewolf: the Forsaken like I do... so how do they know what I'm making up and what's part of the world?

I dunno, its called research. Whenever I read a fanfiction that I'm not certain about, I read/watch/listen to what its based on. On that note, people who read fanfictions are most likely reading it because they like what its based on, no?

How about Best Battle Scene? Or Best Fight Scene?

I know this is a lot like Best Conflict, but a "conflict" is not always a fight.

I dunno, its called research. Whenever I read a fanfiction that I'm not certain about, I read/watch/listen to what its based on. On that note, people who read fanfictions are most likely reading it because they like what its based on, no?

And just how many people are un-lazy enough to do research on fic subjects they've never heard of? I know not many of my friends are -,-.... if any of them.

For Pokemon though, we're all familiar with a lot of those themes.

And I agree with Dark Sage. Best Fight or battle Scene should be considered.

This is a great list. I like the "Best Fanfiction" and "Best Original Fiction" separation.

I don't see anything on the list that doesn't belong there, and I can't really think of anything that urgently needs to be added.
