Default They're a little late, but at least they finally did it!

It has finally been announced that Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex will be available on DVD as of June this year, and that a US TV release will happen in August.

Bit late for the party, but at least someone finally made it happen! A release for this series is long overdue!

And Shingetsutan Tsukihime has been released on DVD in Japan, so it may disappear from the bit torrents soon for anyone who was contemplating downloading it. Hopefully an English DVD release by the end of 2004 can happen. Apparently the name their running for it now is Lunar Legend Tsukihime. There a limited edition pressing going on at the moment, so anyone in Japan might wanna snap up this.

Read or Die TV is also DVD released in Japan now, so an international licesning will be coming soon for this one. Snap it up ASAP from the torrents!

Oh, and apparently they're trying to do a live action version of Initial D as well! Okay, what's with the sudden obsession with live action?! The original company that was doing it quit and now a new one's taken over. Sheesh.

PS. Does anyone know which anime studio made Shingetsutan Tsukihime? Can't find that bit of info out.

EDIT: Wait, it was J.C. staff. In retrospect, anyone know any other popular titles J.C. staff made?

It also is nice to add that the 2nd season might come out on dvd sooner or later; it's already been pre-licensed by Bandai. I believe it has long been announced that GITSAC was licensed though...

Actually, a Japanese DVD release does not mean that the torrents will disappear. All it could mean is that groups will redo their releases with DVD versions (note that they usually don't come with english subs). I don't know where you got this idea from.
Also, where did you get the info or rumor of an English DVD release? Which company is licensing it, when, and again, where is the proof? Do remember that just because you see an English name for it on animenfo or something doesn't mean its licensed, it could just be a translation. (Shingetsutan Tsukihime would literally mean New Lunar Legend Moon Princess, or something like that.)

I think ROD TV has already been pre-licensed. Where are these... torrents? It's not on animesuki... if its on boxtorrents there's certainly the possibility it's licensed... anyway, torrents aren't the only way to get things. There's always mirc, hehe...

Oh, and apparently they're trying to do a live action version of Initial D as well! Okay, what's with the sudden obsession with live action?! The original company that was doing it quit and now a new one's taken over. Sheesh.

I think it's been a fairly common thing. Live action Gokusen, Sailor Moon, GTO, Boogiepop, etc...

PS. Does anyone know which anime studio made Shingetsutan Tsukihime? Can't find that bit of info out.

Hehehe... J.C. Staff, if you've observed anime communities or generally talked to people who've watched a sizeable amount of anime or watched enough anime or just bothered to look in one of the most well-known info sites animenfo.com ... you'd know... o_o

There is a full list out there, but these are the titles from the list that I definitely recognize:

    [L] denotes licensed.
Ai Yori Aoshi (as well as ~Enishi) [L]
    Alien Nine [L]
Azumanga Daioh [L] (Note: a LOT of people thought this would never get licensed because it is so based on Japanese cultural and societal humour that the typical American audience wouldn't really get it unless there were loads of notes OR it was changed to an American context. Well, it got licensed...)
    Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar [L]
    Chicchana Yukitsukai Sugar Special
    Daa! Daa! Daa!
    Daphne in the Brilliant Blue
    Eiken OVA
    Excel Saga [L]
    Gunparade March [L]
    Ikkitousen [L]
    Kareshi Kanojo No Jijou [L]
    Maburaho
Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (aka Someday's Dreamers.) [L]
Majutsushi Orphen (as well as Revenge)[L]
    Nanaka 6/17
    Puni Puni Poemi [L]
    R.O.D. TV [L]
    Revolutionary Girl Utena [L]
    Shingetsutan Tsukihime
    Spiral ~Suiri no Kizuna~
    Yami no Matsuei [L]

I certainly don't mind if you call me a loser with a foolish addiction to anime, because that's true, though I'll note I've only actually seen 2 of all these series (Spiral and Daphne) and only read the manga for Kare Kano.

Really, they did Excel Saga and ROD TV? And Maburaho, Ai Yori and Azumangah Dioh?! That's a pretty impressive resume!

As for those, I've seen Shingensutan Tuskihime in full, 8 eps of ROD TV, 3 of Excel Saga, and the others I mentioned I'll get soon.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but Azura Stardust, I find your "signature" hilarious, because it is so true what it says!

If it's off topic, why post it? We have Private Messages for reasons, and this is exactly one of them.

Personally, being extremely limited in the online distribution of animes and my greatest supply of knowledge being manga and Newtype USA, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex is the only one here that I've come close enough to associate with.

I've been waiting for it for so long! I'd almost given up on it... And it's gonna be on TV?! YAY! That means I won't have to wait for it to pop up in Netflix!

    So anyways... yeah, I really need to start getting fansubs, don't I? ^^;

Yeah, they're pretty well known... though a lot of people have been saying that they have been overdoing the fanservice recently. Ikkitousen and Daphne In The Brilliant Blue come to mind...

dark_myuutwo: Thanks for hte comment, but like EVme15 said, please use Private Messaging.... otherwise it's spam ^^; And spam is a nono. Yeah.

EVme15: Quick, learn to use IRC and BitTorrent. You'll find suddenly there's a load of things to learn. Dont' worry, it's not hard at all - you'll fare smoothly as long as you are polite when asking questions, use common sense and be observant. I'm sure you can do all 3 However, once you get in it gets hard to get out...

why is ikkitousen licensed? i don't see why someone would want to buy the rights to it.

Yeah, that is exactly what a lot of people wonder. So much so that every time someone says "ahhh such-and-such a title won't be licensed", others would say "Well look, the Panty Shot Anime of all time Ikkitousen got licensed..."

Which leaves me wondering why, why, why nobody has picked up Princess Tutu yet. So many titles are getting licensed so fast but it's been some time since Tutu finished and nobody's licensed it yet. It's so goddamn easy to license! Well, if anyone licenses it at least I hope it isn't 4Kids. Because I'd like to see it get the best treatment possible...

I really wonder if they'll ever sell GITS VCDs in Singapore. It looks like it's worth watching...

Hehe, GITS... one (really old by now) thing that comes up to mind is the classic Mass Naked Child Event thing .
