Fox McCloud
General Pepper had been kind enough to provide me with an office on the orbital base, which I had taken the opportunity to dectorate with a few things. I doubted i'd use the office much, I prefered to stay on the Great Fox, but with that being retro-fitted with new equipment, so with Slippy and ROB watching over the technicians, as well as trying to keep up with day to day maintenance, it's a bit of a mess. I sat at the stark desk and ran a finger through a pile of files on the side. Rejected application forms. Alot were rejected for a good reason, criminals trying to escape major charges on their homeworld and others, ones with records linking them to criminal orginisations waiting for a chance to prove themselves by popping off Fox McCloud. I'm sure if secuirty hadn't stopped that Wildfrog kid, he's had been pretty close to suceeding. On the opposite side of the desk were the ten blue files, containing all the information we'd gathered and learnt about your chosen squadron members. The door chimed, then Falco came in through the doors.
Falco had gone on a personal mission some time ago, revisiting old friends and sorting out some problems in his life. It wasn't something he usually discussed, not even with me, but I trusted him enough to go it alone. He'd shown up just when I needed him back at Dinosaur island, and after Peppy had passed away, he was the first to support my idea for the squadron.
"Docking Personelle report that the first five recruits have arrived. They're being escorted to the command room now." He said.
"Thanks Falco. You know it amazes me how big a response we had to this Squadron. We don't even know if it's going to work out yet. Most of these guys have never flown before, let alone been in a dog fight." I said, flicking through some top notes about the first recruit on my list.
"We'll just have to guage them out first. We've all been through it, atleast these guys will have the best teaching them."
"You're right Falco, I'm glad you think of me that way."
I picked up the files and followed him out and down towards the command room.
"You? I'm talking about me. Also I've been thinking of renaming the ship to the GreatFalcon, what do you think?"
"There's not enough room on the side."
"I'll make it fit, just give me the paint."
We waited out of sight while the recruits filed into the room. I recognised them from the interveiws. We let them stew for a while, before walking into the room. They hushed up as Falco and I approached the head seats at the circular table.
"I'm glad to see you all made it safely, and I'm proud to tell you, that the five of you sat here have been selected out of a great number to be in the Squadron. The rest of the squad will be here shortly. You'll be able to meet up later this evening."
A round of applause from everyone sounded out, but quickly quieted down. I scanned the room for any signs of boredom, but everyone looked alert and interested. I shuffled my files slightly and turned to Falco. He nodded.
"On to the formalities. You all know why you're here. Starfox has opened it's docking bay for a squadron and you guys are it. You all know me, I'm your commanding officer, anything that happens it happens because I say so. Falco Lombardi is my second in command. Anything he says, you do. You've all been chosen for this squadron based not only on you're past experiences but for you're skills outside a ship."
I turned around the table to face the first recruit on my left.
"Shex Sharkfin, native of Aquas. You're from a marine planet, so you're our expert in that field. You've also got a good experience with explosiives, so you're our Bombs master.
"Fury Wildcat, from Macbeth right? When Falco is through with you all you'll be a good moral officer I think. I seem to remeber you being very high spirited in the interveiws.
"Nia Dune from right here on Corneria, so far you're the only person with any medical skills, so for now, you're chief corpsman.
"Shadow Panther another one from Corneria" I paused, his file mentioned him working for Corneria Special Ops. I'd asked General Pepper about it, but he'd been unwilling to share any information on the subject. "You've been trained as an assassin, so you'll be the best sharp shooter we have aside from Falco."
"Finally, Cooper Bandit from Katina. You have.. certain skills that i'm sure will come in useful." I flicked my eyes over to the door. While one of the secuirty officers there had been assigned to this orbital academy, the other was from Katina Prison, acting as Cooper's escort. Another one to watch.
"That's everyone, you're all ranked on your initial test scores from the ArWing training you took when you applied, so your call numbers are arranged accordingly. Fury you're Fox Two. Shex, Nia, Cooper, Shadow, you're Fox's Three, Four, Five and Six respectivly. Falco will be Fox One, while I'll be Fox Lead. ON the occcasions where Slippy Joins us in flight, he'll take the odd designation Fox Thirteen. Which is somewhat ironic considering his past exploits." I smiled, a few giggles from the recruits who had heard of the things Slippy has gotten himself into in the past. I turned a glance at Falco who snorted a laugh.
"While the rest of you're squadron members will be arriving later, I suggest you all get some rest, seeing as tomorrow the training will begin. Alternativly, you can all go to the downtime cantina on the lower deck, Orbital One. I trust you all enough to not get drunk before you're first flight tomorrow. Dismissed."
