I was wondering around Fire Pass trying to find a female Torkoal when it hit me... why find a FEMALE Torkoal? Because the majority of pokemon I encounter are male. Correct me if I'm wrong on this... does anyone know why this is, or what the averages overall are (like the overall gender ratio)?

Majority of Pokemon- 50% chance of either Male or Female.
Rare pokemon- About 12.5% chance of a female.
-Mainly starters, and Rare ones. The only one I can think of is Relicanth.
Legendaries-Genderless.
This excludes Lati@s, of course.
Pokemon like Beldum/evos, Magnemite/ton, Voltorb/Electrode, etc-Genderless.
-I think I'm thinking of the right pokemon.
I think thats mostly right, but my minds kinda rusty.
EDIT-Or, you can look at Meowths list. br0d posted while I was typing.
females have lower attacks than males, an would be beneficial to those who have no physical attacks, since you lose less HP from confusion. also, since there are more males than females in competitive battle, females can use attract a lot more effectively than males (see ol' fugly Attract in GSC)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this only existed in GSC and was taken out of RS?Originally posted by titandude21

Thanks to BlazikenKevin for the avatar :]
Above poster is right, lower attack for females only existed in GSC.
Yup. Females and males are identical now I believe.Originally posted by Phantom of Innocence-BF

Except the fact that, y'know, one is female and one is male.

The females have indeed gained equality.
Having a lower attack DV will still help, however. Of course, if you don't use your attack, you've probably already got a -ATK personality...
Ellé terats sell jetus sčr ellé matraks dell Teratius, myiell.
Yay for female equality.
Now, Torkoal is 50% male, and 50% female. However, I too have a similar ordeal, since I run into mostly females. I don't think it counts what gender your player is on the game, either, since even when I'd play as a boy, there'd be a lot of females.
But this is one of the cool reasons for me having a female starter: since I use my starter a lot, and most of the attracters are female, Attract doesn't affect my starter, and it doesn't look like they're going to allow any gay/lesbian Pokémon in there yet.![]()
