Default F-Zero GX - How did you go with it?

I've owned it for two weeks, and well, I don't see myself playing it much more.

But it's been a fun two weeks. Completing story mode, wininng all five cups on all four classes, buying all the cars, unlocking 14 of the time attack ghosts and, best of all, unlocking Mrs. Arrow's character movie (now that WAS worth unlocking! )

I loved this game. Graphically superior to almost anything, agood assortment of characters to sue, the make your own ship feature was a great idea and helped me a lot in clearing the cups, good music, and jsut plain fun.

Only criticisms would be that story mode was far too hard. The difficulty curve for the game is high and was appriopriate for the cups, but for story mode it was a joke. I lsot a lot of brain cells over enarly every misison in story mode. I could only complete the rescue Jody mission on Hard, anything else just drove me mad. I thought the last three missions were incredibly sadistic, and I don't thing unlocking Deathborn was an appropriate prize for completing something as ahrd as Story mode! He sucks!

I just wish I could've unlocked the 10 secret characters, but since I suck at Story Mode, I never will. And that I unlocked a few more of the character movies. I really would've liekd to have seen Jody Summer's movie or Mighty Gazelle's movie.

Out of interest, a few questions:

    1. Which characters did you like using most?
    2. Which characters do you hate most?
    3. What did you end up winning?
    4. How long did it take you?
    5. What's your favourite custom ship?

    For me:

    1. Mrs Arrow (Queen Meteor), Mighty Gazelle (Red Gazelle) and Jody Summer (White Cat)
    2. Deathborn (Dark Schneider), Black Shadow (Black Bull), Captain Falcon (Blue Falcon)
    5. Frost Lynx G-4

And I already answered the other two above.

I'd give the game 9.5/10. I foudn the difficulty curve okay in the end, but I think a lot of gamers would suffer a lot of frustration over this game. It requries a lot of skill and figuring out the best custom ship in order to go far in this game. One of the best Gamecube games by far.

Played it like twice, then traded it in for Splinter Cell.

Not bad, but Mario Kart is better.

Sounds like someone hasn't experienced four kart co-op.

I tried Mario Kart as single and multiplayer in a store. I found it okay but not something I'd spend my money on. I found F-Zero GX more skill dependent and Mario Kart more depndent on luck.

So on that I bought F-Zero GX. That and I don't like Mario. Luigi, ok. Peach, sweet. Mario, no.

oh, forgot, actually in F-Zero, I don't like Pico either. He's jsut damn annoying. Why anyone would use him is beyond me. He has a good theme music though.

F-Zero is too dull. Not bad, but there's not enough player interaction for my tastes. It's mostly course memorization.

Mario Kart requires skill. Luck does play a large part, but it's still fun, damn it. Blue shells rock my socks.

    Oh, and Koopa Troopa owns.

    Not as much as Paratroopa.

Anywhoo, I found F-Zero GX too fast for my tastes. Too fast to enjoy the scenery. And I love to look at the scenery.

I'm with Raz. F-Zero is cool, but it can't hold a candle to the fun chaos Mario Kart: Double Dash!! can bring.

Mario Double Dash quite simply - SUCKS. Its souless and a money grabbing sequal, reminding me much of what has become of the Party franchise.

2 Players does NOT double the fun. I rented it out when it first came out, finished all the tracks in first place in an hour. Daisy, needs to die.

But regarding FZero. I played it in store and sucked. I didn't enjoy coming last repeatedly. I knew it wasn't falcon, it was me.

I prefer skill over luck. At least in F-Zero GX you could actually win by skill. And believe me, if you actually tried, you could master it. Once you get the turning part down, then you're fine.

Obviously you never saw the other and harder tracks. Anyone that has raced Phantom Road, Green Plant, Port Town, Big Blue, Lightning and Firefield, and can say they think it's too fast to see enough detail has rocks in their head. The graphics for Phantom Road own anything, period.

I'll agree that Mute City and Casino Town are very fast, but the rest aren't anywhere near, except for small bits of Port Town.

Oh, somethign weird happened last night. Somehow I won a cup on Master Class with Jody Summer, so I got her secret movie. Then i thought, since luck was going my way, I'd try the Goroh mission on Story Mode on Hard again, and i won it on the first go! Then, jsut for the hell of it, I tried it on very hard and won it 1st shot! WTF?! So then I find myself unlocking the sweet-as Arabian princess-style racer, Princia.

And after masterting how to turn properly with ehr, I won a cup with her on Master class and unlocked her movie. Now I've got Mrs. Arrow's, Jody's and Princia's.

Weird. Why can I only unlock the movies of female characters?!

Edit: Andy, it is because of Falcon! Falcon is one of the worst drivers of all time! Half the drivers available are better than Falcon.

    And adjusted favourite drivers:

    1. Mrs Arrow (#21, Queen Meteor)
    2. Jody Summer (#2, White Cat)
    3. Princia (#36, Spark Moon)
    4. Mighty Gazelle (#1, Red Gazelle)

PS. Can someone else that acutally LIKES this game please reply? I know there are some on this forum, I've seen them before.

Skill < Fun. F-Zero may require more skill (and MKDD does) but simply put I had lots more fun with Mario & co.

And you're right about co-op. It doesn't double fun...more like triple.

Default F-Zero GX - How did you go with it?

I've now unlocked 18 lap ghosts and 21 character movies in F-Zero GX now, and I am putting it away now. I need to do no more.

I've had the most fun 2.5 gaming weeks of my life.

And I don't feel compelled to buy Double Dash.

But speed is the point of the game. Besides, there's plenty of tracks where the scenery passes slow enough to observe well.

Anyway, I've had this game since it was released, and still play it occasionally. I have beaten pretty much everything a good while back, except for some staff ghosts. I have also acquired all the character movies and extras. Overall, I liked and enjoyed this game thoroughly. I've played all the other F-Zero games, and this one would be my top favorite, next to F-Zero X.

Regarding the difficulty, I didn't find it that hard. At first it was a bit awkward, but it became second nature after a few plays. The master mode on grand prix wasn't too difficult for me; I'm able to place first on every track on just about every cup. I'd say X's master mode was harder (and Max Velocity's just plain fiendishly inhumane). Story mode was a bit more difficult, but not by much, in my opinon. I beat all the missions rather easily on very hard; the only one that gave me trouble at first was chapter 7. Overall, story mode is challenging, yes, but not impossible, like other people have claimed.

    1. My favorite pilots and machines are Bio Rex with Big Fang, The Skull with Sonic Phantom, Phoenix with Rainbow Phoenix, Dai San Gen with Pink Spider, and Lily with Bunny Flash.

    2. I don't particularly hate any characters, really.

    3 & 4. Answered above.

    5. I've never used any custom machines other than Dark Condor and Garnet Dragon, so I can't really say.

Impressive. I bow to you, Strider.

I wanted to unlock Bunny Flash, but I suck at Story mode, it's damn harder than Grand Prix mode.

We don't have the AX arcade thing here in Asutralai, so I wouldn't be able to assemble crafts fast enough to beat the staff ghosts.

Oh it's a fantastic game. Double Dash definitely has the edge with multiplayer, but me being the lonesome gamer I am, F-Zero was extremely rewarding in its single-player mode. Story mode was so damn hard and frustrating, but after getting every single detail right and beating the miisson(s), i was quite, quite happy. I pumped my fist and everything.

    1. Fave car to use was either hyper speeder or big fang. the characters are kind of silly overall. but i like how pico scares the crap out of the reporter guy.
    2. Not really hate. more like annoyed.
    3. I've "won/unlocked" everything except 6 time trial ghosts.
    4. About three weeks to a month. between there.
    5. aw dont use the standard machine! everyone uses frost lynx G-4. my personal fave is flying cannon G4. it has my best time trial times.

If u like F-zero (and u have a ps2 aswell) then u should buy Wipeout Fusion. Its hellafast, requires the same skill as f-zero, hard to master but good when u get into it and graphically above all else. You really should try fusion.
