Just have to wait for the movie now.
This thread is for single player/general game comments/game help. If you want to discuss TPM multiplayer matches or find the server/people to play go here.
Now, a few pointers:
- Although DooM³ has been released nationwide, it could be a few more days after that until it arrives in your nearest game store.
- A couple days before the release of DooM³, some GameStop stores decided to jump the gun and release the game earlier.
- Don't worry if you have a low-end video card such as the GeForce4 MX-440 (64MB); DooM³ will look sensational with it.
- DO NOT PLAY DOOM³ WITH AN OVERCLOCKED VIDEO CARD. Mr. Carmack himself has reported that "it is very likely that overclocked configurations that 'play everything else perfectly' will start to show problems on DooM³ due to new usage patterns."
RAZ EDIT: He's not kidding about overclocking. I've already seen tons of people complaining about white dots and other artifacts when play with overclocked hardware.
Just have to wait for the movie now.
Generic FPS 419? Wow, I'm so going to get it!
Am I the only person not wetting myself over this game?

I haven't been following it that much but as far as I know it isn't revolutionary at all. Unless it adds something really big (and by big, I mean as big vehicles when they were first introduced, but now every FPS under the sun has vehicles now) I won't be getting this. I do enjoy a good FPS, but I won't be getting one just because of hype. Look how shít Medal of Honour was and the huge hype it received. It had a D-Day Landing, WOW! Pity the rest of the game ran just like any other FPS. Swap Nazi soldiers for Stormtroopers and you're playing Dark Forces.

I love DooM, but by today's standards the graphics suck, and the midi soundtrack just doesn't do it anymore for some people. From what I hear, the story is more or less based on the first game, but more detailed. I doubt my PC will run it, so I have another reason to get an X-Box.
yes, DooM³ (despite its confusing name) is more of a retelling of the original DooM... imagine that Doom and DooM II never happened.
It isn't a generic FPS. It is basically a survival-horror FPS. It has amazing graphics and apparently equally amazing audio(as in you need to depend on audio in order to locate enemies). It supposedly has a compelling storyline and campaign which is somewhat different seeing as how almost all FPS are good for nothing but multiplayer, with a few exceptions.
I would call all of the other FPS's "generic". This game doesn't get so much press and hype for a reason. It really is supposed to be groundbreaking.
Played the beta, and it's scary as crap (even if some of the enemies such as Mr. Rocket Skeleton don't inspire).
And enjoy the zombies. If they are the same as Beta, they don't die. At all. They just play dead for 30 seconds.
6th of August, eh? Must look out for it. I'm a big fan of Doom and I hope it lives up to the previous titles. I'm glad that the Plasma Rifle is still in...

If I'm not mistaken, Doom 3 needs a 512MB video card (or at least will run best on one). Is this true? 'Cause that's crazy stuff.
Yes, you need 512 MB of RAM, but 512 seems like its starting to be the standard.

Yay! Tanks for the good news
I'm gonna cut myself a hole in my chair to fit a plastic bag so i can soil myself at the computer.

Okay, so it is a scary rehash of a game with good graphics? Considering:
a) I don't get scared.
b) I never liked Doom in the first place.
c) I couldn't care less about graphics.
Why should I get excited about this game?

c)Well go back to playing your SNES. Personally it is a load of bull when they say they don't place any value on graphics. I mean they are not the most important, but I doubt as I have said 3 times before that you would play a stick figure game if it had good gameplay.
I don't know why I qouted that but I did.

I do not believe in the paranormal. I might get scared, say, if I was facing the business end of a pistol being held by a psychopath, but when I play my video games, I tend to play them in my house in a room which I believe to be safe. Since I do not believe my video games can hurt me in any shape or form, I am not scared of them.Originally Posted by Crazy

Also, good graphics can often be more of a vice than a virtue. The better the graphics, the greater amount of space it takes up on a computer and also the longer the loading times. I don't care if a game looks 'as real as life itself'. I have a window next to my computer, I can see reality for myself, thank you. Video games are an escape from reality, not an extension to reality.c)Well go back to playing your SNES. Personally it is a load of bull when they say they don't place any value on graphics. And if you play video games to escape reality than graphics should play a large roll in setting the mood. I personally agree with you in saying that graphics aren't everything, but graphics and sound are extremely important in horror games.

Good thing Doom 3 handles very well.
4 stars is tense? X)Originally Posted by PNT510

Rockstar isn't a good developer/publisher. Outside of Grand Theft Auto they are crap, so that would make them average at best.
I wouldn't say graphics are imprortant at all. You ask, "Would you play a game with stick figure graphics?", and I say yes. People act like graphics are everything, but it's just the icing on the cake, so to speak. Graphics will never save a game with bad gameplay, and as long as it's fun to play the graphics can be horrible and the game will still be good. So again I say, graphics don't matter.
My Gamestop is getting it August Fourth.
GONNA HAVE A TPM SERVER, BEECHES.

Do don't freak out about upgrading. While this is THE time to do it (video card prices dropping), don't fret about owning "teh uber masheen."
Except no one is trying to say that graphics are more important than gameplay. Bullshit yourself as much as you want, but graphics and sound add to the whole feel of the game, which enhances the gameplay. =]
"wow there is nothing exciting about a game that possibly has the best graphics and sound on the market, plus being a triple-a fps game with a survival-horror twist"
I'm holding out for Xbox version though, I'm not spending a few hundred dollars upgrading my PC to play this, I'll wait awhile. Plus XBox co-op will be awesome, although likely not as scary.
No where in that magizine did they say anything about 256 RAM that I can recall. At the start of the review they said 384 was required. And at the back of the magizine in the Hard stuff section they say you need 512 RAM in a low end system to play the game.Originally Posted by Raz

The graphics and music don't matter. The graphics of the original Doom are horrible compared to more recent games and the music is just midi, but the game is still a blast to play and I still play it from time to time. Not to say that I dislike the music in Doom, but it's not at all high quality. And Doom isn't Survival Horror at all. In survival horror games, you have to conserve your ammo and think logically about it. In Doom you run around shooting like a madman, so unless they change it a lot in Doom 3, it's not survival horror.Originally Posted by MetalScyther

Okay, the US release date for DooM³ was incorrect. Instead of August 5th, it will be released on August 3rd.
According to Lord FlatHead of Doomworld however, it could be a few more days after that until it arrives in your nearest game store.
My store is getting it the 4th.
And whoever has it, let me know so we can get some games running.
I completely disagree. Graphics and sound enhance the gameplay IMO, and make it a more enjoyable experience. I do think that Doom3 is somewhat like a survival-horror game, as I read quite a few impressions about how you didn't just have unlimited ammo and stuff. It probably won't be to the extent of Resident Evil, but it still sounds like a FPS with a survival-horror twist to me.
Anyway, yeah. I think that if Doom3 pushes the bar in graphics and sound that it will definately enhance the experience. If you honestly don't give a **** about graphics and sound then it is your call.
I'm not one of those hardcore "gameplay is the only thing that matters" guys, graphics and sound actually mean quite a bit to me. =]
Early reviews say their is plenty of action. There is a degree of resource management, but this is most likely in terms of power weapons. There's probably plenty of ammo for the crappy guns.
Anyone have a link to a review of Doom3?
I haven't seen any reviews online, but if I see any I'll link. I do have the PC Gamer with the review in it and it Basicly says the game is amazing in every single way, and the only bad thing is it has a few lame attempts at humor.
CHOMP~
PC Gamer has been cracking down on leaked reviews, so...uh...don't copy and paste it here.
very good Raz.
