Default Help a veteran newcomer out.

Yo, how's it goin' PokeMasters? I think this is my first post here in about 2 1/2 years, and by now I'm a little out of the loop. I used to be pretty good at this whole thing, doing tournaments on the online mIRC battling thing and the like. But now I've forgotten it all, I can't even recall half the RBY Pokemon let alone what they evolve into or how good they are. So, basically I'm relearning everything from the start, again... Oh well, I'm glad I've rediscovered this fine game, maybe I'll return to my former glory someday... insert sinister laughter here...

Anyways, I think there used to be a teambuilding guide around here for the GSC games which I couldn't find via search. So can someone point me in the right direction as to where I can find it again? Thanks.

I recognize the names of some of you folks, namely Austrian ViceMaster Alex, Dont Run With Scizors, and Mr. E. You probably don't remember me in the least, but it's cool to see some familiar names around here. Guess I'll see y'all around sometime.

Not sure about the GSC guide, but I have a really good suggestion for you. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen come out this September, and are remakes of the original Red, Blue, and Yellow. Both games come with help menus that help out people who haven't played in a while or are new to the game. Both the games would be perfect to get you back into Pokemon and to re-teach you everything.

Since GSC, we have had Ruby and Sapphire (RuSa) featuring a new 135 pokémon. Ruby and Sapphire aren't compatible with the previous games so until now we've only had 133 of the new pokes and 67 of the old 251. With the release of Pokémon Colosseum in the US (the Stadium game of the 3rd generation) or with Pokémon Channel in Europe we have been able to get Jirachi, kinda like the Mew of RuSa. Colosseum has 48 pokémon to "snag" and purify in a story mode (most of which were previously unobtainable in RuSa) before you can trade to RuSa and breed them. Ho-oh is also included in the game.

The future is looking good too. Emerald is the special version of RuSa (like Yellow and Crystal before it) and has many new features.

Fire Red and Leaf Green (FRLG) have already been released in Japan, with the same storyline as Red and Blue but it continues onto various islands south of Kanto, the later ones containing more pokémon from the GSC age. FRLG can trade with RuSa when a certain point in the story is reached. Also in FRLG are some secret islands which can only be reached with special tickets, presumably given out at Nintendo events, the first of which containing Lugia and Ho-oh, and the second has Deoxys another secret new pokémon that changes shape and stats depending on what version it is in, it can mutate because it originated from a mutated space virus according to the Pokédex. In RuSa it has an stats spread out fairly evenly, has two whips for one arm and foot for the other. On FR it has massive attack and special attack, but very poor defense and special defense, it's body is quite spiky and has two whips for each arm. LG's Deoxys is inverted to the FR one, with pathetic attacks and amazing defenses, its body is thick and covered in armour. Emerald's has only recently been revealed, it is expected to have massive speed and less than average other stats, It has a long spike out of the back of it's head and has single whips for arms.

Thanks for the advice you guys. But, I really need this team building guide, no one knows where it is? I will be forever in debt to anyone who finds it.

It is possible that it doesn't exist anymore. If it is anywhere, then it will be in the GSC forum. Try to search for it by using the search option.

I did, I guess it was deleted. Anyways since it's gone, would anyone be nice enough to list and explain some individual Pokemon roles, such as tanks, hazers, etc.? Some team building tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Heh, it's nice to see old faces make a return. I think, if you're after tutorials on GSC it's prolly best if I move this thread to that particular forum - they're far more qualified to help you out than anyone.

If you need sets, RSFrLg, or GSC, PM me. I'm a book of sets.

    Have a nice day.

ok, ill do a rough description of the uses that i can think of.

Starter (aka mr. No longer used)
Comes out first and messes with status, usually para - often carries one attack and is most of the time pretty fast. I'd be about the only person who uses one now lol.

    Special Sponge (aka BLISSEY)
Anything with a big special defence and high hp fits here, blissey has no special type weakness and is also a popular heal beller.

Heal Beller (aka two hour wars)
Blissey or Miltank usually, anything with heal bell - 99% of the time carrying softboiled/milk drink/recover to piss you off even more.

    Physical Sponge (aka Skarmory)
Anything that can absorb physical attacks, usually carries whirlwind or roar to stop people cursing up. (Curse is +def +atk -spd if you forgot)

Physical Sweeper (aka OWNED BY SKARM)
Nowdays these are so rare, a pure physical attacker is always beaten by skarmory so most people like Machamp (Fire Blast), Snorlax (Fire Blast) or Charizard with belly drum and earthquake, with you guessed it FIRE BLAST (the best skarmory counter), half of em carry curse.

Special Sweeper (aka pwnd by blissey)
Usually carrying 2 special based attacks and often a recovery move just for spite, Starmie is a common example - make sure if you use one that it has a big special attack, rhydon is no good!
One more round; one more low.

*reaches back into the chasm of my pokemon community memory*

Chickengod definitely rings a bell. I think I remember you posting at Azure for a while. You went to pojo for a little while, did you not? Too bad neither Pokemasters or pojo has archives that go back that far. Nothing like reminiscing about old times in the pokemon community.

Anyway, if you're going to get into pokemon again, there is really no use in relearning GSC, as it is basically done. I'm the last person who would like to admit it as I'm quite good at GSC, but GSC is completely saturated.

So if you want to play pokemon, play RS. I'm really not one to take advice from though, because I left for a while and since I have been back, I have been too lazy to learn RS thoroughly. Making a team in RS is not as simple as it was in RBY or GSC. There are a lot of calculations involved (DVs/EVs/etc.). However, there is quite a bit of variety in RS, and it is not as much of a stallfest as GSC heal bell wars.

You should get on IRC for starters, or you could get Netbattle, which is an alternative battling system to IRC. The irc server is irc.your-irc.net. Netbattle can be found at tvsian.com.

Welcome back man. Nice to see old guys come back.

Yeah I did post at Azure relatively recently, and Pojo a really long time ago, old as in Missingno was still cool, and rumors of "Pikablu" being in this new fangled thing called Pokemon Yellow.

Is GSBot still fairly popular, or is there a Ru/Sa equivalent around or in the making?

Heyo. I jumped back in to my RBY/GSC ROMs a few months back and then hit up RS. I personally found too much too do with the time I wanted to put in to this, and found GSC a lot more fun. Drifted between forums a lot a long while ago. Actually came back looking for someone, and stuck around. A lot of stuff to do, but enough for me to do in the time I have.

I started Ru/Sa anyway. They're a load of fun, if not time consuming, depending on what you want to do.

Yep RSBot has been around for a while now, and it incorporates FRLG pokémon and moves as well as RuSa. The channel is #rsarena
