Quick "Shiny" Question

After completing LeafGreen I started up my FireRed cart the other day & my Charmander is a Shiny one - I've heard this is pretty rare and also, not to let it evolve as it will most likely return to normal when it becomes Charmeleon.

Is this correct?

I've only ever had one Shiny Pokemon (a Rhyhorn I caught in Silver) so I don't entirely know what to do with it, does it learn different moves?

The shiny will stay shiny after evolution. They don't learn different moves; it's purely an aesthetic thing.

You are very lucky!! Shinies are very hard to come by, there is only like a 1 in 8192 or so chance that a Pokémon will be shiny. Shinies are not much more then "trophy Pokémon," they don't learn different moves, and they don't have different stats. Pokémon can't become "unshinied" unless you use a cheating device, such as Action Replay. Evolving or trading a shiny will not turn it into a normal-colored Pokémon.

Here are pictures are Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard in FireRed/LeafGreen. On the left will be the regular colored versions, and on the right will be the shinies. A shiny Charizard is really cool looking, it is black!!

I was lucky enough to have bred a shiny charmander and a friend of mine had previously caught a shiny oddish. So, me being mr. niceguy and knowing Charizard is my friend's favorite pokemon, I graciously traded my shiny for his. We spent one evening leveling up the Charmander to a Charizard (and yep, it's definitely true that it keeps the shinyness, like the previous posters have said) and we put it on colosseum and WOW did it look freakin' sweet!

The bad news: my friend's gameboy was temporarily stolen by an immature boy who proceeded to save over his game, thus deleting the shiny charizard...sigh. It's tragic and my friend was devastated, so now I'm helping him get his pokelife back together...he had put at least 250hrs+ into it.

I once found a shiny ratatta on silver! OMG i was so happy because i'd never found a shiny before. and id had the game for years. anyway i never caught it. i wasnt far on enough and i hadn't aquired any bloody pokeballs yet (i didnt even have the pokedex yet)

they must be pretty valuable. i want one baaaadly. (shiny skitty would be like a treasure to me)

i've still never seen any shiny pokemon on my gold, sapphire, or leaf green versions, and altogether, i've probably put in about 3-400 hours . i want one now... holy crap shiny charizard is cool looking.
