Quick Help in Emerald...

Ha, wow, it's been a looong time since I've been on these boards....and an equally long time since I've touched a Pokemon game. I did play Sapphire, but it was "borrowed" about a week after I got it, so I don't really remember what went on in it. Now I have Emerald, and I'm actually doing okay on it...but now I'm kind of stuck:

I'm on the last gym in Sootopolis City, but the doors are locked...I have all the HM's except for Waterfall, and I defeated Team Magma and Aqua in their hideouts. Is there something I missed here? What do I have to do to get the gym doors to open?
Also, how do I get the Sky Pillar to open? I know I can get Rayquaza there, but it's the same deal with the gym; the doors won't open.

Kyogre and Groudon should be fighting in Sootopolis if you've beaten Team Aqua and Team Magma who should of woken them up. That should allow you to see Wally in the Cave of Origin who opens the Sky Pillar for you to get Rayquaza. If this doesn't happen maybe you need to go to the Underwater Cave east of Sootopolis and let Team Aqua wake up Kyogre.

did you go to mt pyre where the ruby and sapphire orbs should have been stolen,
then follow whichever team to that under water cave in rt 128

then u should be able to go to sootopolis and see rayquaza calm kyogre and groudon.
after that you should be able to fight that gym leader...it's not wallace anymore I don't remember his name.

If I remember correctly, the Sootopolis Gym Leader, Juan, was the mentor of Wallace. Or maybe Wallace was Juan's mentor... I'm pretty sure Juan taught Wallace, but I'm not certain. It could be the other way around.

You were right the first time, Juan was Wallace's teacher. He must have been a good teacher, because he did his job, his student became better than he was. Sadly, neither one of them could figure out that Grass and Electric types would wipe out there entire teams. lol ^_~
