    Default Exp. Share question

This may be a stupid question, but I couldn't find an answer after a bit of searching this forum, so I thought I'd ask. If a Pokemon holds an Exp. Share and gains experience points through that, does it gain EVs from the battle as well? I ask because I wouldn't want to accidentally gain unwanted EVs.

I can tell you with utmost certainty that no, a pokemon holding exp share does not gain EV's

sorry, um...what you could do is give the one you want to train a Macho Brace and then quickly switch out to a stronger

pokemon, i'm not sure if it still recieves double the ev's but I mean with macho brace it should

the exp share pokemon will gain the same ev as the battling monster.
eg. pika on exp share. raichu zapped a slugma KO.
raichu gains 1 ev for sp att, pika gains the same.

if raichu has the macho brace on, raichu gains 2 ev, but pika still gains only 1.

    get it?

correction Onixus, pokemon holding exp share do NOT gain EV's if they don't actually take part in battle.

whenever I'm EV training I always keep track of how many points i've earned

I've checked it several times to ensure that I didn't make a mistake, pokemon that hold an exp share

and do NOT take part in battle do NOT gain EV's, they only gain regular eperience

    let's do a simple experiment.

pair up raichu and pika as i mentioned above. (of course u can use any pokemon. just an eg here.)

try to get a wild pika. feed it one HONDEW. It will say that sp att cannot fall anymore.
get raichu to KO a slugma. feed HONDEW to pika this time. Now it will say that sp att fell.

Conclusion: Pika gained an EV without battling.
    The HONDEWs do not lie...

Wat was ur method of "checking several times", vanirelf?

wow, your method seems faster than mine...I don't use berries... oh well

well, when I ev train I keep track of exactly how many ev's are earned and in which areas

I was curious to see if it would work so I took a lv5 just hatched pokemon, I breed a lot and I

gave it the exp share to hold , then I took my lv. 40 (at the time) fully trained up milotic

I put the baby pokemon in my team but it did not battle at all, (ralts if your'e wondering) I faught a whole bunch of

spinda to see if I could raise it's EV's that way.

I battled about 50 spinda with my milotic who was holding a macho brace to increase the ev's earned.

I at least expected my ralts to get at least half the regular ev's due to the exp share.

It didn't get any, 'cuz my next step was to give them the vitamins and it still took all 10 of the vitamins.

I tried with several pokemon Aron for attck, and so on but they still dind't get any EV.

I don't know if it's an emerald thing as I've only tried it on emerald. it might work on the other versions.

but yeah that's why I do NOT believe exp share shares ev's of course now that I downloaded a pokmon reader that

tells me how many ev's i've earned in each area and such, i'll be testing this again in all my versions to see if it's just some glitch

in my games or if it's emerald that just won't let it work for whatever reason.

ps. vitamins don't lie either at lv. when the pokemon hasn't battled at all either.

Yes. The Pokémon holding Exp. Share gets the same amount of EVs as the one battling.

And it's true. I beated 152 Shuppets with other Pokémon while my Steelix held the Exp. Share. His Attack maximized, as expected...

I have trained literally hundreds of pokémon to full effort values (as validated by the lady in Slateport) using Exp. Share without them ever taking part in a single battle directly.

Unless they have changed it for Emerald. I'll run some trials.

    Edit:

Okay. Took a newly hatched Ralts of my own, gave it Exp. Share and ran up to fight Spinda with my Hariyama out front. Knocked over 10 of them then flew to Slateport and bought 10 Calciums. My Ralts took the first 9 Calciums and the 10th resulted in the "it won't have any effect" message. Just as expected.

Not sure what went wrong with your trial, but it hasn't changed. Are you sure you tested it with Calcium and not some other vitamin?

ok...I was wrong, I admit it.

you do earn EV's from holding the exp share, but even if your starter in battle is holding the macho brace
the pokemon holding the exp. share will still only earn the regular amount of EV's.

...oh well, oh and I found this out by using the pokemon reader ...thanks flib if you come here at all.

It looks like that was a much better question than I initially thought. Thanks for your help, everyone!
