    Default EV distribution: HP/Def/SpDef

If I intend to increase the general defence of a pokemon, shd i put 252 in HP or 126 in def and 126 in Spdef?

While I am at it, any recommendations for EV distribution for:
    Miltank
    Shuckle
    Dusclops
    Houndoom
    Milotic
    Gardevoir

Well, there are always exceptions, but a lot of the time, you will definitely want some EVs in the HP stat, because in a way, you will be covering both defense and special defense if you have more in your HP stat. A lot of time for defensive Pokémon, you will put max EVs in HP and divide up the rest between defense and special defense. Of course, there are always exceptions.

Miltank-Jolly Personality, EVs: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense.

Shuckle-Bold Personality, EVs: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense.

Dusclops-Bold Personality, EVs: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special Defense.

Houndoom-Timid Personality, EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP.

Milotic(Annoyer/Tank)-Bold Personality, EVs: 252 Defense, 129 HP, 129 Special Defense.
    Milotic(Special Sweeper)-Modest Personality, EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

    Gardevoir(Special Sweeper)-Timid Personality, EVs: 252 Special Attack, 129 Speed, 129 Special Defense.
    Gardevoir(Annoyer)-Calm Personality: 252 Special Defense, 129 HP, 129 Defense.

Oh noes not the 252/129/129 HP/Defences EVs format. If you want to improve their Defences first go 252 HP EVs. Next make their Defence and Special Defence the same in value not EVs. For example if a Pokemon has 300 Defence and 250 Special Defence you want more EVs in Special Defence than Defence. The only time you go different is for Tanks where you want huge Defence (Steelix) or Special Defence (Blissey). Since you were asking for general defence experiment until they're about equal unless you want the easy 252/129/129 EV way out.

Do you know anything about EVs? Four EVs gives an extra stat point at Level 100. You want equal Defences from what I read. So if a Pokemon has a higher Base Defence than Base Special Defence you would give it more Special Defence EVs to equal out the Defences.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across so strong or mean. If you're just starting to understand EVs you're a step ahead of those kids who don't care about them at all. Also if you're just starting to understand how EVs work I recommend reading a few EV Guides on various websites like GameFAQs and Serebii. Beginners do use the 252/252/6 and 252/129/129 EV formats a lot because it's the easiest way to put them if you don't have time on your hands. I was just trying to say there are better ways of using EVs once you become more use to them.
