Thread: kelpsy Berry?

    Default kelpsy Berry?

So, I give the berrymaster's wife the phrase "challenge contest". How do I unlock the word "contest" though? Who do I battle? (I know it's on E4, but what space is E4!?).

BTW, the Feebas is hard to max out for beauty.

-Rash nature...I've got like level 25 and 24 pokeblocks (some grey, some indigo) that are bitter that it LOVES eating, yet it just won't ever evolve. HOW MUCH MORE DO I NEED!? AAAAAAAHHHHHHH

    Well...

    1. You may have seen some guide that said you unlock the word "Contest" by beating the E4 - also known as the Elite Four. Actually, I believe that is incorrect; I'm pretty sure that all you have to do is get a Contest Pass. You can get one by entering a Contest Hall and requesting one at the main desk. (This key item will also allow you to enter contests. Yay!)

    2. For evolution, it's not enough to max out the Feebas' Beauty and then let it sit there. You can check with the Pokemon Fan Club Chairman in Slateport city to see if its Beauty has been maxed out. If it has, all you need to do is train it until it levels up (or just give it a Rare Candy), and it will evolve. But its Beauty must be maximized first! Also, if its Beauty is maximized, you don't get any bonus for trying to increase it further, so you'll just be wasting your Pokeblocks. If you think that its Beauty may have reached its peak, check with the Fan Club Chairman.

    I hope that helps.

EDIT: By the way, there's a much easier way to get some Kelpsy berries. You can grab six of them on route 115 and then replant and water them to get a heck of a lot more. Be warned, though, that the stash of six can only be grabbed once. If you use all of those, then you'll have to get the only other one from the Berry Master's wife. And if that's the case, then be sure to plant them, water them, and repeat many, many times. Otherwise, you'll likely never be able to get any more Kelpsy berries (without taking the time to trade one over from another cartridge, or something along those lines).

I thought contest was either obtained through defeating the elite four, or clearing the master contests. But since I had not defeated master rank contests, I assumed the former was true.

    My mistake

Now that I think about it, I'm actually not certain about the Berry Master Wife's limit on one of each berry... can you not get multiple copies of a berry from her, or do you just have to wait until the next day?

And I've found a couple of GameFAQs guides that (sort of) confirm the need for a Contest Pass for the Kelpsy Berries. One was pretty uncertain, but the other stated it like a fact. I dunno; that's pretty inconclusive. I'm inclined not to trust it when only one guide seems to be sure. On the other hand, I've got a Contest Pass, and I haven't beaten the Master Rank contests, but I have the word "Contest" in my word collection. And I'm pretty sure it was there before I defeated the Elite Four, too. Hmm.

If you don't have the word, try getting a Contest Pass. If that doesn't work, and you haven't beaten the Elite Four and the Champion, then try that. Otherwise... um, pray? (But really, one of those should work. It's just a matter of figuring out which is which. And since the Contest Pass is likely at most a short Fly away, I'd try that first.)

I used a bunch of berries with various flavours and such, including a few oran berries. I used grey, indigo and blue pokeblocks and finally got my milotic. Thanks for all the help.
