    Yu-Gi-Oh: The Six Avatars

    Prologue: King of Fiends

“Welcome back ladies and gentleman!” the commentator screamed out over the cheers of the people in the grandstands, “to the Adelaide Regional Finals! For those who have just tuned in, this is Mimi Penelope and so far, Forte Angelo is in the lead with over Daniel Winston the 3rd with Forte on 2500 lifepoints and Daniel on 1300!”

Forte wished the girl would just shut up long enough for him to think. All through the tournament he had to put up with her over-the-top screeching and throughout this duel he had to put up with this brit’s stupid ye olde speech. Forte stood over his opponent by a few good inches, his long, pale lavender hair tied into a ponytail with a few bangs hanging out the front and poisonous green eyes. The red coat he wore was done up, hiding the rest of his clothing except for his black boots and gloves. His eyes surveyed the field. So far, Forte had a Skull Knight #2 in attack mode (1000/1200) and his opponent had an Axe Raider in attack mode (1700/1150) and a face down card. It was currently Forte’s move.

“Make thy move knave!” Daniel exclaimed. Forte cringed at his opponent’s statement. While it wasn’t a bad thing to have some connection with your deck, it didn’t mean you could speak like some idiot stuck in the Middle Ages. Forte glared at his opponent as he drew. Daniel’s chocolate brown hair was cut short, and very well groomed and his hazel eyes watched from behind a pair of glasses (Forte could clearly see there were no lenses and that the things were for show). He was dressed as a rich snob in a black suit. Just because your name ends with “the 3rd” doesn’t mean that you’re royalty, thinking that only makes you an idiot.

“I summon Archfiend Soldier in attack mode!” The diabolical form of Forte’s fiend appeared on the field. It drew it’s sword and gave Daniel’s Axe Raider an evil smirk (1900/1500). The Axe Raider stepped back nervously. A cocky smile spread across Forte’s face.
“This guy’s famous for getting the job done,” Forte said in a devil-may-care sort of tone, “And today is no exception. Archfiend, wipe the floor with this pom’s Axe Raider!” The Archfiend Soldier gave a small growl before leaping in the air, its sword ready to slice the raider in two.
“Halt!” Daniel cried out, “I activate Wobaku! You shall not pass!” The three wobaku maidens appeared in front of the raider. The archfiend stopped inches in front of them. A look of annoyance flashed across its face as it stepped back. The same look was mirrored by Forte perfectly.

Am I the only guy who doesn’t have that card in my deck?

“I’ll end my turn then,” Forte shrugged off his irritation. He could always attack next turn, right?

Daniel smiled smugly as he drew.
“I now play Cost Down!” he announced, slipping the card into his duel disk.
“At the cost of one card, I shall call forth the leader of my noble army! Axe Raider, begone!” Daniel’s raider lowered its axe before being engulfed a sand storm.
“Now villain! Prepare for the general of my army!” Forte put his guard up.

    This is it!

“Come forth! Gaia the Fierce Knight!

    Forte’s jaw dropped.

Gaia seemed to appear out of nowhere, leaping over his master and onto the field. His horse reared up on its hind legs before Gaia glared down at the still stunned Forte (2300/2100). Daniel noticed this and smirked.
“It seems you’ve met your match haven’t you? Your fiends shall fall by Gaia’s mighty lances!”

    You idiot!!

Daniel was temporarily knocked out of character by Forte’s outburst.
    “Uh, what?”
“You’re telling me you based your deck on Gaia!?”
“But of course! Gaia is the strongest of all the knights!”
“Not to mention the most pathetic seven star monster in existence!!!” A small scowl appeared on Daniel’s face.
    “Watch your tongue knave!”
“I mean, God! There so many better monsters that you summon that are less then seven stars! There’s Summoned Skull, Jinzo, the list goes on!” All this time, the three monsters had been watching back and forth throughout this entire argument. Gaia looked a bit distressed that his master was loosing, and a bit ticked off the he was being insulted. Forte’s fiends on the other hand were trying their hardest not to die laughing. Daniel was now getting very pissed off.
“Silence! I’ll show you the power of Gaia! Gaia, slay his Archfiend Soldier!!” Gaia gave a small war cry as he charged at the fiend, plunging one of his lances into his chest. The archfiend gave out one last cry before exploding into pixels.

    Forte: 2100
    Daniel: 1300

Forte gave an annoyed sigh as he shook his head.
    “Idiot!” he muttered.
    “What was that?” Daniel commanded.
“Once again Daniel, you have made yourself look like an idiot!”
“I have not! I slew your archfiend like it was nothing!”
“True, but if you had been smart enough to attack my Skull Knight #2, you would’ve done a hell of a lot more damage!” It was true, Forte had forgotten to switch his Skull Knight into defence mode. Daniel growled, but gave an arrogant smile.
“Fear not! I shall destroy your fake knight next!” Forte’s eyes twitched. Fake knight? Sure, Skull Knight #2 was no Skull Knight #1, but calling it a fake knight? Bad, British idiot.
“Make your move fiend!” Daniel laughed, “It shall do you no good!” Forte drew and snarled. Unfortunately, Daniel was right.

Sure, there are a hundred and one monsters that are better then Gaia. The only problem is, [B]I don’t have any at the moment![B]

“I’ll summon this guy face down in defence mode,” a face down card appeared before Forte, “and I’ll switch my Skull Knight into defence mode.” The Skull Knight knelt down, holding its sword like a shield.
“Your move lord dumbass!” The brunette snarled at the insult as he drew, a smile formed on his features as he looked at the card.
“You’re going to wish you kept your mouth shut fiend!” he laughed, “If you thought Gaia was terrifying, what I’m about to call forth is even worse!” Forte raised an eyebrow. He didn’t think Gaia was scary, infact he thought it was stupid.
“I play, Polymerization!” Forte rolled his eyes. He knew what was coming.
“I combine my knight with the powerful Curse of Dragon!” The skeletal form of the Curse of Dragon appeared on the field. The polymerization card appeared on the field and a portal opened up, sucking the two monsters in. With a blast of wind and a large figure shot out of the portal. It flew around the arena before stopping in front of Daniel. Gaia pointed its lance at Forte.

“I give you, Gaia the Dragon Champion! (2600/2100)”

    Forte shook his head again.
“You really are an idiot aren’t you?” he asked, his eyes showing a hint of annoyance.
“What are you talking about!?” Daniel yelled, pretty ticked off.
“It would have made a lot more sense if you tried to summon Curse of Dragon separately. They would have done a lot more damage separate. Now all you have is one monster who’s hardly any better than Gaia.”
“Hardly any better!? He has twenty six hundred attack points! That’s more than what you have!”
“And to top it all off,” Forte continued, “You can’t attack! The rules state that you can’t attack with a fusion monster on the same turn it was formed.” Daniel growled.
“Then it is thy move.” If the act wouldn’t get him disqualified, Forte would have walked right up to him and punched him in the face. Instead, Forte drew, and a small smirk appeared on his face.
“Like I said Daniel,” he spoke in a calm voice, “There’re plenty of monster’s better then Gaia the Fierce Knight. And you’re going to meet one of them.”
    “Oh? Who?” Forte’s smirk broadened.
“First of all, I sacrifice my Skull Knight #2.” A dark portal opened beneath the Skull Knight’s feet. The fiend sank into it as darkness began to pour out.
“And now I’ll bring in the main man of this event! Come on out, Dark Ruler Ha Des!

A tall fiend arose from the darkness. He resembled a fiendish king, its red eyes staring down on Daniel with contempt. He took a sip from the glass of wine he was holding (2450/1600).

“And also, because I sacrificed my Skull Knight #2 to summon a fiend, I can special summon one from my deck!” From the same portal, a second Skull Knight #2 arose and drew its sword (1000/1200).
“And finally, I switch my defence card into attack mode. Show yourself Ryu-kishin Powered!” A pink, gargoyle like beast appeared. It flexed its claws as its evil, yellow eyes glared at Daniel (1600/1200)

Daniel stepped back in fright, but his confidence quickly returned.
“Impressive. But, while you’re royal fiend would have slain the old Gaia, my dragon champion shall slay all three of your fiends!” This caused Forte to laugh. Daniel was confused.
“True, your champion’s stronger, but there’s something that me and Ha Des here have that neither you nor Gaia ever had.”
    “And what’s that?” Forte chuckled.
“We’re a big hit with the ladies.”
“What!?” Forte pulled a card from his hand.
“And this card proves it. I play, Malevolent Nuzzler!” A beautiful fiend appeared and nuzzled up to the Dark Ruler. The fiend gave playful smile as he took her under his free arm and his attack rose to 3150. Forte laughed at the expression on Daniel’s face.
“Every ruler needs a hot girl and now that Ha Des has his, he can stomp over almost anything.” Forte gave a grin which unnerved the English boy.
“Now Ha Des, show him why they call me, Dark Ruler Forte! Destroy Gaia with Flames of the Dark Ruler!” The dark ruler took a gulp of his wine before breathing a stream of black and purple fire at the dragon champion. Both Gaia and his steed cried out in pain as they fell to the floor, exploding into pixels on impact.

    Forte: 2100
    Daniel: 750

Daniel stood still, his eyes wide open and his jaw almost reaching the floor. His ‘general’ was destroyed and to make matters worse, there were two more fiends eyeing him hungrily, waiting for Forte to say the word. The lavender haired duellist paced back and forth, clearly think about which monster should finish him off. He snapped his fingers when he came to a decision.
“Time to end this,” Forte announced with a playful smirk on his lips, “and since you kept badmouthing my fiends throughout this duel, its payback time!” His expression hardened as he pointed at Daniel.
“Ryu-Kishin Powered! It’s chow time!” The gargoyle let out a roar of delight as it dived towards Daniel. It struck him with its claws, sending the English boy toppling off of the stage.

    Forte: 2100
    Daniel: 0

The crowd went wild, and so did Penelope.
“And there you have it folks! With a stunning come back, Forte Angelo has won the Adelaide Regional Finals!”

Come back? When was I in trouble?

Without a word, Forte turned, stepped down from the stage and walked out of the main arena. He sighed in boredom as he walked into the empty halls of the stadium, everyone else was still in the main arena.

    Well, almost everyone.

He was knocked out of his trail of thought (if he had one), by someone clapping behind him. He turned to see someone leaning back on the wall behind him, clapping lazily.

The guy was about the same age as Forte and a bit shorter in terms of height. He had wild, firey red hair which stuck up all over the place, varely covering his electric blue eyes. He wore a white shirt, which was tucked (in a very sloppy manner) into his pants, a pitch black jacket with strange bright yellow patterns, a pair of black pants of similar colour and pattern and a pair of old, brown combat boots.
“Nice duel Forte,” The guy spoke, an amused smirk spreading across his face. The lavender haired eighteen year old rolled his eyes.
“Are you kidding Reece? That guy was a light weight.” Reece laughed as Forte shok his head in dissapointment.
“Honestly, how that guy got into the finals to begin with is beyond me. Not only should he have been eliminated ages ago, but he should’ve been kicked out with that annoying accent of his.” Reece looked over to his right and his smirk broadened.
“Speaking of annoyances, here comes one now.” Forte turned around, and then instantly wished he hadn’t.

Forget Daniel Winston, Mimi Penelope had to be the most annoying person he’d ever met.

The girl was about two thirds of Forte’s hight and looked two years younger then he was (Forte often wondered how Mimi became a commentator at such a young age). Her bright pink hair was cut short so it just reached her chin and her violet eyes stared directly into Forte’s green as she approached him. She was wearing a rose red button-up blouse (probably in some vein attempt to make her small carriage appear bigger), a pair of tight, dark blue jeans and a pair of red high heels.
“There you are,” she said as she walked up to the pair, “nice duel.” Forte disagreed, but decided to keep his mouth shut. Mimi pulled out a check from her blouse and handed it to him. Forte quickly stuffed the check into his pocket, trying not to think about where that check had been.
“See you next tournament,” Forte muttered as he and Reece turned to leave.
“Um, Forte,” Mimi spoke up. Forte stopped and rolled his eyes. He knew this was coming. There wasn’t a single tournament where this didn’t happen.
“Yes?” he asked as he turned.
“Well,” Mimi tried to give Forte what was supposed to be a seductive look, “I was wondering, if you were doing anything tonight, we could…” Forte cut her off before she could finish.
“I’m sorry, but I’ve already got plans for tonight.” Mimi looked down at the ground.
“Oh…ok,” a trace of dissapointment in her voice. Forte wasn’t one to intentionally break a woman’s heart, but going on a date with Mimi was something he (and every other guy who knew her), didn’t want to do. He learnt why the hard way.
“Maybe next time,” Forte replied, trying to cheer the girl up as he turned to walk away. Mimi gave a small smile and nodded.
“Ok, next time.” She turned and ran off down the hall as Forte and Reece left the stadium.

“A couple thousand,” Forte muttered as he read the check, “Why do I feel like I’m getting over paid.” Reece laughed at his buddy’s little joke.
“Think of it as easy money Forte,” he said, slapping Forte on the back as they walked down the streets of Adelaide. Forte sighed as he looked up at the evening sky.
    “I know Reece, but…”
“But what?” Forte sighed in frustration.
“It’s all too easy! There’s no challenge in beating on pathetic duelists like Lord Brain-Dead before.” Reece just stared at his friend.
“I thought you became a duellist mainly for the money.”
“That was the idea, but if this is the way things are going to be, I may as well get a job. It’ll at least prevent me from dieing from boredom.” Reece chuckled, possibly at the thought of his friend working at a fast food joint like McDonalds or something.
“Cheer up buddy. There’s plenty of decent duellists for you to sink your teeth into.” Forte stopped.
“Yeah, but there’s one small problem. They’re all the way across the ocean, and I’m stuck here.” Reece shrugged.
Well, look on the bright side. You’re one of the best duellists in Australia, you’ve got girl’s who’ll kill eachother to be with you, and you’re old enough to drink as much beer as you want. Any sane man would give up their right arm to have that kind of life.” Fotre gave a short laughed as he looked to the ground, shaking his head.
“Trust me dude, having girls kill eachother over you is not as good a thing as you would think. I cant go through one week without some crazy fangirl calling me, claiming to have had my child.” The two burst into laughter.
“Yeah,” Reece agreed between bursts of laughter, “How many kids are you supposed to have now?”
“I don’t know! I lost count at eight!”

It took them a few good minutes to calm down. Forte was forced to lean on Reece for support.
“thanks Reece,” he said, “I needed that.” Reece gave a casual shrug.
“What are friends for dude. Come on, the guys at Neon Impact are probably waiting for us.” Forte stood up straight, pretending to straighten out his coat.
“We mustn’t keep our fans waiting.” He joked before the friends continued down the road.

Hey Guys, Forte here. Well, I know I said my life needed more excitement, but I had no idea it would lead to this.

And it all began when I got that card…

If you guys wanna know what I’m talking about, stick around the next chapter ”A Gift?” See ya around.

    I liked that.
Its nice to see a main character, who isnt a freakin' boy scout. I think, he has a small side of dark in him, too. That I also like. And fiends rock.

About the writing, Im not competent enough to comment that. Although it seemed nice.

    Keep up the good work.

This is a great story, Mystic! Of course, I'm sure that Paradox is gonna call you for being "unoriginal", since you had a tournament final round thing for your first chapter. That Daniel guy was annoying and used an awful deck(if you want to use Gaia, go with Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight, since you can summon it without tribute under certain conditions) and I like how your character got a lot of interesting quirks, including a lavender ponytail.

I love new Yu-Gi-Oh stories because they'll pick up when Brian stops writing. Keep it up!

Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

Did you get the idea for your Dan from my Dan? I liked how you made Dan stupid, only a stupid person would use a deck revolving around Gaia. At least my Dan's deck is an equip/Ben Kei.

...and still managed to get to the finals with it. Its a nice, original deck. I like that.

Thanks for the comments dudes. I was kinda sick of the hero always being a goody-two-shoes and I wanted to make someone who had a bit of a dark side.

Zigzagoon: No, I didn't base Daniel on your Dan. I've been wanting to do a deck revolving around medievil times and I saw this as a good chance to use it.

Mookie: yeah, fiends rule. They just fit Forte's character so damm well it would have been a crime not to use them.

Lookin forward to hearing from you guys again.

I'm sorry to not only talk about my fanfic and for giving spoilers but Alex, from my fanfic Yu-Gi-Oh! The Millenium Adventure has a major dark side that won't come up for a few chapters.

I like th plot, MC, but your grammar needs work, espescially the spacing. Space between every paragraph, including every conversation.

Other than that, not a bad job.

Time for the next chapter people!

    Chapter 1: A Gift?

Neon Impact. One of Forte and Reece’s favourite haunts. The nightclub was usually open at this time of night and almost completely full. Thankfully, Fotre and Reece were able to get in, mostly due to their ‘celebraty’ statues.

It took the duo a few minutes to push their way through the crowds to the bar, mainly having to stop because either guys wanted to congradulate Forte on his ‘victory’ or girls trying to get him to go on a date with them. Finally reaching the bar, the pair pulled up a couple of stools and Forte leaned over the bar.

“Hey! Pegasus!” Forte called. Legato, the bartender approached the pair, a friendly smile on his face.

His real name was Legato Wesely, but everyone called him Pegasus because of his resemblance to the father of “Duel Monsters”. The difference was that his hair was a neon blue, he looked several years younger and his eyes were a mix of borwn and green. Apart from that, he looked just like Maxamillion Pegesus.

“What’ll it be guys?” He asked.

“Just a couple of beers thanks.”

Legato nodded and went to fetch their drinks.

“By the way,” Legato called as he filled up their glasses, “I saw the tournament a couple of hours ago.”

    “You and everyone else.”

“How the hell did that kid even get into the finals?” Forte laughed.

“I assure you, I have no idea.”

That was what Forte liked about Legato, he and the Pegasus look-a-like thought pretty similar. Legato handed them their drinks. Reece gulped his down with great enthusiasm. Forte just sighed. Legato noticed this.

“what’s wrong buddy?” Forte sighed again.

“He think that this has gotten too easy for him,” Reece answered, followed by a loud burp. Legato gave a short laugh.

“I know what he means. Lately, all of his duels have been one sided. Hey, that reminds me. I’ve got something for you Forte.”

Forte looked up at the bluenette.

    “What?”

Legato pulled a magazine clipping out of his pocket.

“There’s another duelling tournament going on.”

Forte sighed again as he took a gulp from his drink.

“How much?” he asked, referring to the prize money.

“Nothing.” Fotre raised a bored eyebrow.

“Then what’s the prize?” fort took another gulp of beer.

“It says a trip for you nd your friend to Domino Japan.”

Forte slammed his glass on the bar and bolted up from his seat, his eyes wide with excitement.

    “DOMINO!?” he yelled out.

Reece was a bit taken back by this outburst. A number of people who were sitting nearby looked over as well.

“What’s gotten you so excited dude?” Reece asked.

“Do you have any idea who lives in Domino!?” Reece though for a moment, but Forte answered before he could say anything.

“Yugi Mouto and Seto Kaiba! The two best duellists in the world!” Forte’s face was ablaze with excitement, and it kinda scared Reece.

“Yeah?” Reece had a bad feeling he knew where this was going, “What’s the plan?”

forte’s creepy expression was replaced with his usual cocky smirk.

“It’s simple. I win the trip to Japan, find Yugi Mouto, and challenge him to a duel. It’s as simple as that.” Legato laughed while a worried look appeared on Reece’s face.

“Woah, woah! Hang on there. We’re not talking about idiots like Daniel Winston. We’re talking the King of Games here! What makes you sure you’re going to win?”

Forte gave a small laugh while shaking his head as he placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder.

“I don’t! What’s the point in duelling someone if I know I’m going to win?”

Reece stared blankly at his friend’s face before bursting into laughter. That was Forte for you.

“Alright dude. Whatever you say.” Forte turned to Legato.

“We still able to register?” he asked. Legato nodded.

“Registration ends tomorrow at twelve. It’s being held at Adelaide University.” Forte nodded before turning to Reece.

    “Well? Let’s go.”

The pair stood up to leave when Legato stopped them.

“Aren’t you forgetting something?” he asked, a mischievous smile spreading across his face, “Those drinks aren’t free.”

    --------------~*~--------------

“Are you really planning on challenging Yugi?” Reece asked as the two walked down towards Forte’s apartment building, “Or were you joking?”

“I’m serious Reece. I’m gonna hunt down the King of Games himself. If anyone can give me a challenge, he can. Besides,” Forte gave his friend a cocky grin, “How can you expect any man to turn down a free vacation?”

Their conversation was cut short by a clanging noise cmoing from a nearby allyway they were walking past. The two stopped and looked.

“What was that?” he asked curiously. Forte shrugged.

“Probably just a cat or something.”

A garbage can fell over, causing Reece to jump slightly. Forte narrowed his eyes slightly as he took a small step forward.

The crumpled form of an old man fell from the shadows.

The two teens instantly ran to his sides, helping the elderly man to his feet. Judging from his appearance, he seemed to have gone through a lot.

“You ok? What happened?” Forte asked, his face full of concern.

Forte may be cocky, arrogant and a bit malicious, but he wasn’t heartless.

The old man loked up at the lavender haired duellist weakly.

“Help…me…” was all he could say before slipping into unconcious.

    --------------~*~--------------

Thankfully, they had found the old man near the Royal Adelaide hospital and were able to carry him there. The pair were no sitting outside of the man’s room, waiting to see if he’d be ok before they left.

The door opened and a female doctor stepped out. Two sets of eyes fell onto her instantly, silently asking about the old man.

“He’s going to be fine,” the doctor spoke quietly, “He’s just suffering from over-exhaustion, as well as a few cuts and bruises.”

The doctor’s eyes fell to the floor in thought.

“It’s almost as if someone was after him.”

    “Can I see him?”

The doctor snapped out of her trail of thought and looked up at Forte.

“Hmm? Oh, yes of course. He’s just resting now, but you can see him.”

“Forte?” said Reece, a bit confused as to why Forte wanted to see him.

“I’ll be only a minute or so.”

Reece nodded as Forte entered the room.

The old man seemed so peaceful in his bed. Forte silently stared at him for what seemd like a minute or so before giving his trademark smile.

“Looks like you went through a lot old man,” he chuckled as he appraoched the bed, “But relax, you’re safe here.”

But…who would be after a harmless old man like him?

    Forte turned to leave.

Suddenly, the old man shot up and grabbed Forte’s wrist.

“What the!?” Forte gasped as he spun around, a mixture of shock and a bit of panic on his face. The old man stared up at Forte with fear in his eyes.

“Help me,” he spoke out softly.

Forte’s surprise quickly turned into concern.

“Don’t worry,” he replied, trying to calm him down, “You’re safe now.”

The old man shook his head in a terrified manner.

    “No…they’re still after me?”

    “What?”

The old man reached into his pocket and pulled something out.

    “Take this.”

He put it into Forte’s hand and let go of his wrist. Forte looked at the object in his hand.

It was a Duel Monsters card.

“you can’t let them get it,” the old man continued, the fear was apparent in his voice, “Don’t let them get it!”

Forte looked at the man confused.

    “Wait, who’s they?” he asked.

Before the old man could answer, his strength gave out and he fell back onto the bed, exhausted.

Forte grabbed the old man’s shoulders and tried to shake him awake.

    “Wait a minute! Who’s they?”

The door swung open and the doctor rushed.

“I heard everything!” she said as she rushed up to the old man, “What happened?”

Forte quickly slipped the card into his pocket.

“I don’t know. He just woke up and started ranting about something,” Forte replied, not wanting to go into further detail.

“Maybe you should leave. He needs to rest right now. I’ll call you if anything comes up.”

Forte nodded and left the room.

    “What happened?” Reece asked.

    “I’m not sure.”

Forte’s mind was on the old man the rest of the night. What happened to him? Why did he give him this card? Who was after him and why did they want the card?

These question’s fillde his head as he fell asleep that night.

    --------------~*~--------------

    “You’re entering too?”

Reece nodded as he filled in the enterance form.

“Why not? If we’re both competing, it’ll double our chances of winning. Besides, I can’t let you get all the glory.”

    Both teens burst out laughing.

The woman typed something into her computer.

“There. You’re both registered,” she said, “You’re lucky. The tournament starts in a few hours. You almost missed out.”

    “Yeah, but we didn’t.”

Forte turned to his red-headed friend.

“So, what should we do to kill a few hours?”

    Reece shrugged.

“I dunno. How about I get us something to eat?”

    Forte nodded.

“Ok dude. I’ll just exploring the place ok?”

Reece nodded and the two split up.

“See you in the finals!” Forte called out to Reece. Reece just laughed.

    --------------~*~--------------

A tall figure stepped into the busy lobby of the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He wore a trench coat and hat which covered his face. He walked up to the main desk.

“Can I help you?” the woman asked.

“Yes. I heard an old man was brought in last night,” The man spoke in a gentle tone, “He’s my uncle you see and I would like to see him.” The woman stood up.

“Oh, yes of course. Right this way.”

A sadistic smile spred across the man’s lips as the nurse led him to the room.

Hey everybody. This is Reece. As you can see, something very wierd is going on. Next up, Forte plays a little “Good Samaritin” and his first match of the tournament begins. Keep a look out for the next chapter Matador. Hope to see you guys there.

    An interesting filler.

I'm quite anxious to see just what that card was the old man gave to Forte. Was it a real card, or a made-up one?

You've hooked my attention, Mystic Clown. Keep it up.

And be sure to capitalize the beginning of each sentence.

So Forte wants to duel Yugi, an old man gave him a card, and some freak is hunting down the old man. Something tells me Forte will duel the freak and win using the old mans card.
Hi, I'm goldenzigzagoon. If you look at my name it says I am goldenzigzagoo. That is not correct. It got cut off. I live in the middle of nowhere. Not London. Not N.Y.C. Not any big city. I live in the middle of nowhere. I live in the lost town of Berkley. You never heard of it? Duh. No one knows about it. It's tiny. I like coffee.

This is plain awesome. I don't know what that card is that Forte got, but I'm guessing it's a powerful monster which has special powers. And I know what's going to happen to the old man, it happens all the time in situations like this.

Anyways, great story, and keep writing it good. Only thing wrong was that you mispelled "celebrity", but that's just a nitpick. Good work!

Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

Thanks for the review guys. I'd like to clear up now that the card Forte recieved is made-up, and is crucial to the story-line.

Secondly, yeah, i'm sorry about the spelling mistakes and such, my computer doesn't have spell check you see.

Sorry I'm late with this next chapter. Enjoy

    Chapter 2: Matador

A man stepped out of the hospital, which was now in a total panic. He reached into his coat and pulled out a mobile phone.

Punching in the numbers, he brought it to his face.

    ”Hello?”

    “It’s me sir.”

    “Ahh, did you find him?”

“Yes sir, but…” the man hesitated, “He didn’t have the avatar on him.”

    ”What? Damm!”

“He must have given it to someone else.”

    ”It could be anywhere! “

    “I’m sorry sir.”

”What did you do with the old man?”

A cruel smirk sperd across the man’s face.

“He’ll live, but it wont be a pleasant life”

    --------------~*~--------------

Forte slowly walked down the halls of Adelaide University. In his hand was the card that old man had given him. His green eyes studied the card intensely.

He couldn’t figure out why anyone would attack an old man just to get hold of this card. It seemed pretty normal to him.

Apart from the fact it wasn’t even in english.

The writing on the card seemed to be some sort of hyroglyphic script. Unfortunately, Forte knew nothing about ancient egyption languages.

But apart from that, it was an ordinary card.

“Oh, come on baby. You know you want to.”

“I said get lost, you overgrown ape!”

Forte was knocked out of his trail of thought by a couple of voices coming from around the corner.

Slippng the card into his pocket, Forte peeked around it.

Down the corridor were two people.

One was your typical, muscle-bound but braindead jock. He was probably around the same hight as Forte and had a pertty muscular build, which was obvious due to the white muscle shirt he was wearing. He wore a pair of jeans and had short, brownish-blonde hair.

The other was a young woman, possibly around Forte’s age. She was probably at least a head shorter then him. She had short black hair which had red streaks and reached rather unevenly to her chin. She was wearing a black, sleeveless top, a dark green jacket, slightly baggy camoflauge pants held up by a large brown belt and combat boots.

She reminded Forte of those women you see in the army, except less muscular and, in his opinion, a bit cuter.

He could take a guess as to what’s happening. The stupid jock was trying to score with the soldier chick, but she, as any smart woman would, was rejecting him. Of course, being a dumb jock, the guy couldn’t take a hint.

“Come on. Just one little kiss,” The jock asked, almost begging as he moved closer to her. She pushed away, but the guy got hold of her arm and slammed her against the lockers.

“Listen baby. Always get what I want, and I want you!”

The woman’s hand clenched into a fist, but before she could do anything, Forte struck.

Seizing him by his shirt, Forte pulled him off the girl before punching him square in the jaw, causing the guy to loose balance and fall to the ground.

“Didn’t your mummy tell you not to be rough with girls?” Forte spoke in a mocking tone.

“This is none of your business punk,” The jock growled as he climbed to his feet, rubbing his jaw, “So piss off!”

Forte’s eye twitched. Punk? There was only one person he’d take that from, and that was his landlady’s boyfriend (he didn’t want to get thrown out for wailing on him). Fortunately, this wasn’t the case.

    “Nobody. Calls me. A punk!”

Forte swepped kicked the guy, ssending him to the geround again before giving him a hard kick to his ribs and stomping on his stomach, winding him. Forte placed a warning foot on his throat, pinning him to the floor.

“Now get lost before I rip your nuts off!”

The guy didn’t need to be told twice. As soon as Forte lifted his foot, the guy took off down the hall.

Forte took a deep breath and a cocky smile played on his lips.

“Now listen lady,” Forte said in a jocking manner, “You should watch who you talk to. A cute girl like you could get into serious trouble,” Forte laughed, “Lucky I was here to save you.”

Forte turned just in time to get a slap in the face and a punch in the gut. He doubled over as the girl walked past.

“I didn’t need your help. I can handle myself you know, “she glared at Forte with red-ish brown eyes, “and just because you saved me doesn’t mean I’m yours. I know guys like you!”

Forte glared up at her as she walked away.

“Well excuse me for being nice!”

Forte tried to climb to his feet, only to see Reece’s hand pull him up. The guy had gotten them some drinks and had arrived just in time to see what happened.

“What’s up with her?” he asked.

“Reece,” Forte replied as he dusted himself off, “I’m beginning to think I have terrible luck with women.”

“Well, never mind. You’re first duel’s going to start. Come on.”

The two friends head down the hall towards the gymnasium.

    --------------~*~--------------

“Welcome ladies and gentleman!” Mimi screamed over the crowds, “To the “Fight to Domino” Tournament! The winner of this competition wins a trip for themselves and a friend to Domino Japan! First up, it’s Forte Angelo versus,” Mimi looked at the card in her hand, “Matador?”

Forte rolled his eyes in frustration. Couldn’t he go through one tournament without having to hear her screeching through it? Although, he was curious to know who this “Matador” was.

“And here he is!” Mimi cried out.

Forte’s eyes turned to the other end of the gymnasium…

…and his jaw almost hit the floor.

You’ve got to be kidding me!

His opponant was a bit shorter then he was, but at least he was at eye level. He had chestnut brown hair which was tied into a ponytail and brown eyes. What caused him to stand out was his outfit. He was dressed up as a matador, he even had a capote as well. There was a duel disk on his arm.

    He smirked at Forte’s expression.

“So, you’re the bull for this match huh?” he said in a mocking tone, flicking his capote for effect.

Forte’s face fell into his hand.

“Why do I have to keep duelling these idiots?” He muttered under his breath before looking up at Matador, “Let’s get this over with.”

“Aah, anxious to loose I see. Well, let’s get this match started.” He rose his capote to shoulder level.

“I swear on my capote that I’ll prove victorious over you!”

The two duellists drew their cards and their lifepoints went up to 8000.

    Forte: 8000
    Matador: 8000

“Since a Matador never makes the first move,” Matador said in a cocky tone, “I’ll let you go first.”

    Forte drew.

    Hmm, not a bad hand.

“I summon Grand Tiki Elder in attack mode!”

The ghostly form of a mask wearing fiend appeared on the field in front of Forte, it’s head spinning around until it’s eyes fell on Matador (1500/800).

    “You’re move.”

    Matador drew.

I”ll place four cards face down, and end my turn.”

Four face down card materialized in front of Matador. Forte raised an eyebrow and gave a small chuckle.

Does he really think I’m going to fall for that? That’s the oldest trick on the book!

    Forte drew.

“I’ll summon Ryu kishin Powered in attack mode!”

Forte’s gargoyle appeared on the fiend next to the tiki. It stared hungrily at Matador (1600/1200).

    “And I’ll end my turn.”

    Matador drew.

    “I’ll pass.”

    Forte’s face went blank.

This guy’s not even trying to put up an offence. He’s leaving himself wide open! But, if I attack, he’ll clearly set off those traps of his.

    Forte drew, and smiled.

But then again, who says you can do damage only by attacking?

“Well then. Enough sitting around!” a sinister grin formed on Forte’s face, “You’re traps may keep my monsters from attacking, but monsters aren’t the only way to attack! I play, Meteor of Destruction!”

Forte slapped the card onto his disk and the gym grew dark and dark clouds formed overhead. The clouds parted as a fiery meteor fell from the heavens, right towards Matador.

Forte’s eyes widened when he saw Matador grin.

“You bulls are so predictable!” Matador laughed, “activate Magic Jammer!”

Matador discarded a card and the meteor broke apart before it could even hit him.

“Not only that, but I’ll now activate my other three cards! Arise, Embodiment of Apophis!”

The three other cards flipped face up and black sand seemed to swirl around them. Forte rose an arm to shield his eyes. From the storm, three snake-like monsters emerged, each armed with a sword. The three monsters hissed at Forte (1600/1800).

“Oh Crap…” was all Forte could say.

“I guess that means you end your turn,” Matador smirked as he drew, “My turn. And I’ll start by playing three more cards face down.”

The cards appeared behind the three snakes.

    More traps?

An annoyed scowl appeaed on Forte’s face.

“Now then. It’s time for the matador to strike back at the bull! My Embodiments of Apophis, attack!”

The first one struck the tiki with its sword. It screamed out before it exploded into pixels.

    Forte: 7900
    Matador: 8000

The second swung at Ryu-kishin. The fiend swung its claw at it and the two attacks collided. Both monsters were ripped apart. The last one, unopposed, slashed Forte across the torso with its sword. Forte’s clutched his torso in pain.

    Forte: 6300
    Matador: 8000

    “Your move bull,” Matador stated.

Forte was getting pretty sick of that name. The gave a low snarl as he drew.

Great. He’s got two monsters on the field and three traps. I’ve got nothing and I’m down 1700 lifepoints. Can this situation suck any more?

He looked at the card he drew.

Well, this may not do much, but it’ll slow him down.

“I summon Archfiend Soldier in attack mode!”

The fiend appeared on the fiend and brandished its sword. The two embodiments drew back a bit, but their confidence quickly returned. (1900/1500).

    “That ends my turn.”

    Matador drew.

"I'll set one monster face down in defence mode and end my turn."

A face down card appeared before Matador as Forte drew.

    "I'll pass."

Matador drew, and a broad smirk appeared on his face.

“If you’re not going to attack me,” he spoke in a cocky manner, “Then I’ll just attack you. I summon Catapult Turtle in attack mode!”

The bulky form of the mechanized turtle materialized next to Matador’s snakes. It emmited a low growl (1200/2000).

Forte mentally gulped. He knew what was coming.

“Now then, since my Embodiments of Apophis can’t destroy your fiend, I’ll just go over him and attack you directly!”

His attention turned to one of his embodiments.

“Embodiment of Apophis! Mount the Catapult Turtle!”

The monster did just that and laid down straight on the catapult.

    “And, FIRE!”

The snake was fired at Forte with tremendous force. He groaned in pain as he stumbled back, but managed to keep his footing.

    Forte: 5500
    Matador: 8000

“And that will end my move. Your turn bull.”

Forte had never wanted to punch anyone as much as he wanted to punch Matador right now.

    He drew.

Hmm, this might come in handy.

“I’ll play one card face down and end my turn.”

A face down card materialized before Forte. Matador’s expression remained unaffected by this new card.

That card wont help. The instant he tries to use it, I’ll just activate my Seven Tools of the Bandit and destroy it. How predictable.

Matador drew, but he didn’t even bother looking at the card.

“It’s time my other Embodiment of Apophis did some damage. Now, mount the Catapult Turtle!”

Like before, the snake mounted to turtle and was fired directly into Forte. Forte’s chest aera was really starting to hurt now.

    Forte: 4700
    Matador: 8000

    “Your turn.”

    Forte drew, and grinned.

About time my deck came through for me.

“I think that turtle of yours has outstayed its welcome don’t you?” Forte asked in a mocking tone. Matador raised an eyebrow.

“It’s not like you can do anything about it.”

    “Oh, but I can!”

Forte slapped the card onto his duel disk.

    “I play Fissure!”

Matador gasped as the ground opened up and swollowed up the Catapult Turtle. A smug smile was plastered on Forte’s face as the ground closed up.

“That’s the end of your turtle,” he joked. Matador snarled.

“Big deal! No great loss! It still doesn’t change the fact that you can’t attack me!”

Forte’s smile vanished. It was true. There wasn’t any way Forte could attack. He was still loosing this duel.

    “You’re move.”

    Matador drew. He laughed.

“You may have destroyed my turtle, but that’s not my only offensive monster. I summon Raging lame Sprite!”

There was a small burst of flame and a small, rather cute looking sprite, wearing clothes made from leaves, appeared on the field (100/200).

Forte’s eyes narrowed. There it was, the king of all weenie rush decks was standing before him.

“And, like my turtle,” Matador gloated, “it can go over your card and attack directly. Flame Sprite! Attack the bull with wild fire!”

The little sprite let out a childish laugh before diving at Forte and sending a small blast of embers into his face. Forte barely flinched

    Fotre: 4600
    Matador: 8000

“And I assume you know this little guy’s effect.” Matador laughed as the sprite’s attack shot up to 1100.

    “You’re turn.”

Forte drew and gave a small smile

    About time I drew him.

“It’s time my main man got into this!” Forte announced, “I sacrifice my archfiend to summon Dark Ruler Ha Des!”

The fiend vanished in a swirl of black smoke and the demonic ruler rose before him. The little sprite couldn’t help but shiver at the sight of him (2450/1600).

    “I’ll end my turn.”

Matador seemed unaffected by the appearance of Forte’s fiend as he drew.

“You’re Dark Ruler isn’t going to help you I’m afraid,” Matador smirked, “Raging Flame Sprite, attack the bull again!”

The sprite shot past Ha Des and struck Forte. His attack was a bit more painful this time.

    Forte: 3500
    Matador: 8000

    The sprite gave

Forte groaned in pain as small slivers of smoke came off his body.

“My move,” Forte said as he drew. He frowned at his card.

    “I’ll pass this turn.”

    Matador’s smug grin widened.

“It seems you’ve finally given up,” Matador taunted as he waved his capote around, “No bull has ever bested my matador deck!”

Forte groaned and rolled his eyes.

“It’s called a weenie rush deck. At least get the name right.”

    Matador seemed offended by this.

“How dare you! This is batter then any ‘weenie rush deck’!” he snapped, “This is a matador deck!”

“Oh for the love of Pete! It’s obviously a weenie rush deck! Quite trying to make it sound cool!”

Matador’s face turned red with anger.

“I’ll teach you for insulting my deck! Raging Flame Sprite! Attack!”

This attack was a lot more painful then the other two. Forte cuoldn’t hold back a cry of pain as the flames licked at his body.

    Forte: 1400
    Matador: 8000

    Matador laughed.

“So, what do you have to say now bull?” he taunted.

Forte drew, and an amused smirk appeared on his face.

    “Go to hell Matador.”

“What!?” Matador yelled, abviously angered by Forte’s comment.

“Firstly,” Forte announced, ignoring Matador, “I’ll activate my trap card! Reverse Trap!”

Matador’s eyes widened as the face down card revealed itself. Forte’s smirk widened.

“I bet you definately know what this card does. It takes all the attack points your sprite had gained and Subtracts it from its attack.”

The sprite cringed as its attack dropped down to 0.

    Matador’s grin quickly returned.

“Not much of a problem, considering that you still cannot attack me.”

Forte’s smirked changed into a creepy grin.

    “Oh, but I can.”

Matador’s eyes widened, not sure whether to believe him or not.

“I’ll play this little card known as, Servants of the Dark Ruler!”

A card appeared before Forte. It had the image of four shadowy figures kneeling before Dark Ruler Ha Des.

“What’s that card do?” Matador asked, a bit unerved by Forte’s creepy grin.

“Well, this card can only be activated when Ha Des is on the field, but it allows me to special summon as many monsters as I can as long as their attack is 1500 or less. Also for every monster I special summon, I lose 200 lifepoints.”

Matador raised an eyebrow as Forte’s lifepoints dropped to 600.

    Forte: 600
    Matador: 8000

“What’ll that do? They still can’t attack me.”

“But they can. Let me show you why.”

Four dark figures began to materialise on the field.

“First of all, let me introduce, the Witty Phantom!”

The first monster was a yellow skinned man with yellow hair and fiendish eyes. He wore a purple tuxedo (1400/1200).

    “Secondly, Dark Jeroid!”

A grotesque fiend with two faces appeared on the field, it’s red eyes glaring at Matador (1400/1600).

    “Now, introducing, Skull Knight #2!”

The skeletal knight appeared and brandished its sword (1000/1200).

“And now, finally, bring out, Byser Shock!”

A strange looking form, resembling a strange horeshoe appeared on the field. Eletricity surged between it’s two ends (600/800).

Matador’s eyes diluted. He knew what was happening.

“I guess you know Byser Shock’s effect then. It sends all face down cards into back into the player’s hands!”

Matador gasped as his three face down cards shopt back into his hand. He was now completely wide open.

“Now, I’ll use Dark Jeroid’s effect, which drains 800 attack points from a monster. But due to Reverse Trap’s effect, the monster gains 800. And I’ll use it on Ha Des!”

The jeroid buried its claws into the Dark Ruler. Dark energy surged through the fiend as its attack rose to 3250.

“but wait, there’s more! I’ll now sacrifice my Byser Shock to summon a monster known as, Lesser Fiend!”

Byser Shock vanished, and a creature with four arms and a cat-like head appeared on the field (2100/1000).

Matador gulped as his face paled. His monster had 0 attack points and was up against four nasty looking fiends. Summing up the attack points, Matador eralized that together, they had more then enough to wipe him out.

“It’s time we ended this game! Witty Phantom, attack the Raging Flame Sprite.”

The fiend casually walked up to the petrified sprite and tipped its hat in a friendly manner. The sprite breathed a sigh of relief, only to be kicked across the room by the phantom. It exploded into pizels as it hit the wall.

    Forte: 600
    Matador: 6600

“That had to hurt,” Forte taunted, “Now! Lesser Fiend, Skull Knight and Dark Jeroid, attack the clown directly!”

The Skull Knight slashed Matador with its claws as the other two fiends clawed at him viciously.

    Forte: 600
    Matador: 2400

A look of terror was on Matador’s face as he stared at the last fiend, the Dark Ruler Ha Des.

“Throughout this duel, you’ve been calling me a bull. Well, here’s a saying your mother should have taught you,” Forte’s insane grin returned, “You mess with the bull, you get the horns! Ha Des, finish this clown with Flames of the Dark Ruler!”

Matador screamed, out of both fear and pain as the Dark Ruler’s flame breath scorched him.

    Forte: 600
    Matador: 0

The crowd went a wild as Forte’s smug ezpression returned to his face.

Matador’s face was pale, his face in an expression of disbelief. He was shocked at how quickly Forte had turned the entire duel around. He remained frozen in place as forte left the gymnasium.

    --------------~*~--------------

“Nice duel there Forte,” Reece laughed he patted his friend on the back, “for a minute there, I was worried you were going to lose.”

Forte laughed. He had to admit though, Matador was a pretty skilled duellist, though for some reason, beating didn’t bring Forte much satisfaction. He was just too used to beating idiots like him.

“I just hope that the others put up just as good a fight. It’s nice to get a challenge once in a while.”

“No need to worry about that buddy. I made it too,” reece chuckled, “If this keeps up, we’ll be duelling eachother in the finals.”

    Forte smiled.

“Just two more duels and I’ve won this thing.”

    “You mean until I’ve won.”

    Forte laughed.

“Don’t count on it! I’ll pummel you into the dirt like everyone else.”

    “Bring it!”

The loudspeaker cut their conversation short.

“Will the duellists Reece Armaverik and Celia Longswell please report to the gymnasium as the first match of round two will begin.”

“Well, I guess I’d better be going,” Reece turned to Forte, “You gonna come?”

    Forte shook his head.

“Nah, I’ll just hang out here and pig out. I probably wont be much of a match anyway.”

    “Whatever. See ya.”

Forte gave Reece the thumbs up as Reece headed for the gymnasium.

Hey guys. Forte here. Remember how I said I have bad luck with women? Well, that bad luck’s continuing. I finally meet a girl who doesn’t want to have my baby, and she wants to shove a spiked bat up my ass. But for now, she’s more then happy to just knock me out of the contest.

    I don’t think so…

Stick around for the next chapter Smelling the Roses see ya there.

Oooooh. A matador deck. It sounds like something that revolves around bulls, I can only name two bull monsters so I knew it was not that. Once I saw the Aphophises I thought it was a trap deck because bulls hate red. The last thing left was a semi-beast deck but then he summoned Raging Flame Sprite.

    MC,

Not bad, but you made a mistake - Catapult Turtle is a five-star Monster, so you need a sacrifice to summon it.

I'm also not sure if Reverse Trap works the other way, turning negatives into positives, but I might be wrong.

However, plotwise, it was a pretty good chapter. I can understand Forte's desire to duel a worthy opponent.

I can bet that the ungrateful woman he saved was a duelist whom he's going to throw down with - and due to the "spiked bat" comment, I'm guessing a Fire Deck using Ultimate Baseball Kid.

    Keep it up.

Hey DS, it does work that way. I have it.

Nice chapter, but like Dark Sage said, you need to sacrifice a monster to summon the Turtle, maybe one of those Avatars.

Poor Forte, he's being forced to duel these nutjobs. I hope the woman you mentioned before isn't a nutjob too, or else things will get ugly.

Great chapter, though. I wonder if that card Forte got was the Winged Dragon of Ra.

Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

DS: It's a five star monster!? Damm, I've got some editting to do. Also, Zizagoon is right, Reverse trap does work both ways (I've got it too).

Finally, the "spiked bat" comment was just a joke. It has nothing to do with the deck. The title is enough of a hint.

My next chapter will take a while people, as I've got to find some decent monsters of the type I'm searching for.

You could either use Cost Down or use a card to destroy one of Matadors traps and have it turn out to be Statue of the Wicked to be able to summon Catapult Turtle for no sacrivice.

Sorry this chapter took so long guys. Here it is for your own amusement.

    Chapter 3: Smelling the Roses

“Now Creator!” Reece cried out over the crowd, “attack her directly with Divine Lightning!”

The Creator let out a low growl as lightning charged in its massive arms. With a loud bellow, it struck Reece’s opponent with a blast of lightning.

Celia’s screams mixed with the roaring thunder as her lifepoints fell to zero.

    Reece: 4500
    Celia: 0

The crowd cheered as Reece went over to help the girl to her feet.

Forte, who saw the last moves of the match, couldn’t help but laugh. Reece always acted like a gentleman around the ladies, but deep down, he was a lazy and goofy bum. Forte finished off his soda as he rose from his chair.

“Guess I’d better get ready for my match,” he said as he left the grandstands.

    --------------~*~--------------

“Nice duel Reece,” Forte congradulated his friend outside the gymnasium, “Though I couldn’t help notice that girl get the better of you at some stages. Were you letting her get away with that? Or are you going a bit rusty.

“Don’t give me that!” Reece laughed, “That Matador almost knocked you out of the tourny, so shut up.”

    Forte laughed in response.

“Well, my match is comin up,” Forte pretended to adjust his coat, “How do I look?”

    Reece pretending to survey him.

“I’m guessing at least ten girls will start drooling over you when you step into the ring.”

    Forte laughed.

“Big deal. I walk in there topless and every girl in the stadium will faint!”

The two friends burst into laughter, having to support eachother to keep from falling.

“Seriously dude,” Reece said after finally coming down, “Good luck.”

    “Thanks mate.”

“I’m just gonna grab somethin to eat and then I’ll be back ok?”

“Ok dude,” Forte turned and headed into the gym, “Just don’t miss the show!”

    --------------~*~--------------

Forte stood at his end of the gymnasium, silently praying that his next opponant wasn’t a complete idiot. While he wasn’t sure whether this will work or not, it’ll at least help drown out Mimi’s screeching.

“And now ladies and gentleman, for the third match of Round two in this tournament! It’s now Forte Angelo versus Rosette Elenor!”

    “That’s Rose!”

Forte looked up. He wasn’t sure whether to smirk or groan.

It was the girl from before. The one who decided to give Forte a gutfull of fist.

Mimi looked at the card in her hand.

    “But it says here that…”

“Just call me Rose ok?” the girl interrupted.

“Um, ok. The match is Forte Angelo versus Rose Elenor!”

Rose gave a nod of approval before glaring at Forte. The lavender haired teen just smirked.

“Well, well,” he joked, “We meet again. Keeping out of trouble I hope.”

“Shut up,” she growled, “Let’s just get this over with.”

The smirk on Forte’s face was replaced buy a frown.

“What’s your problem? I was just trying to be nice, and you try to lodge your fist into my stomach! Haven’t you ever heard of gratitude?”

“Zip it Forte, I know your kind of guys. The kind that pretends to save a girl just to try and get an easy lay.”

Forte rolled his eyes as he sighed in annoyance. Out of all the things in the world, sleeping with this girl was the last thing Forte wanted.

“Fine then,” a smirk appeared on Forte’s lips, “You don’t like me being the hero? Fine by me. To be honest, I always perfered to play the bad guy!”

“Let’s just get on with this!”

“Time to duel!” the two said in unison.

    Forte: 8000
    Rose: 8000

“I’ve decided to be a nice guy one last time and let you go first,” Forte said. Rose just grunted and drew.

“I’ll start off,” she announced, “by playing the field card Forest!”

She placed her card down and the whole gymnasium was filled with lush forests, fillied with numerous plants and even a few holographic birds for effect.

“I’ll now summon Grass Phantom in defence mode!”

A hideous monster which resembled a bulb of a plant appeared. It had a ghoulish face as small, redish vine-like tenticles. It let out a small gurgle. (1000/1000)-(1200/1200)

    “Your move,” Rose said.

Forte would have normally cringed at the sight of the plant monster, but this was different. He had to let this girl know he meant business. He drew.

“First of all, I’ll summon Witty Phantom in attack mode!”

The tuxedo-clad fiend materialised before Forte. He gave a small wave to the crowd before blowing a kiss to Rose. (1400/1000)

    Rose snarled.

“Another womanizing bastard,” she growled under her breath, “just like his boss.”

“Now then,” Forte smirked, “I think that ‘plant’ of yours doesn’t suit the scenery. I think it’s time for a bit of gardening, eh Phantom?” the phantom nodded in response, “Witty Phantom, attack that weed!”

The orange skinned phantom dived at the grass phantom. With one hard punch, the plant exploded into pixels. It’s last gurglig cry echoed throughout the gymnasium.

    “Your turn.”

    Rose drew.

“I’ll summon Vampire Orchis in attack mode!” she announced.

A tree with darkened bark appeared. On the end of each branch was a red flower with a set of jaws and the trunk had a pair of green eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth. Its many jaws snapped at Forte. (1700/1000)-(1900/1200)

“And since he’s been summoned,” said Rose, “I can now special summon Des Dendle!”

A small, slightly gruesome plant appeared next to Vampire Orchis. (300/2000).

“And now, “I’ll equip my Vampire Orchis with Des Dendle!”

The small plant attached itself to Vampire Orchis’ side. Forte growled.

“Now Vampire Orchis! Attack his Witty Phantom!”

The orchis’ many branches shot out at the phantom. Before he could defend himself, the monster’s many jaws sunk into his flesh. Forte’s fiend screamed in pain before exploding in pixels.

    Forte: 7500
    Rose: 8000

“And because it’s equiped with Des Dendle, when my Vampire Orchis destroys a monster, I can special summon one wicked plant token to the field!”

A small, fiendish looking plant with an evil face appeared on the field. It gave a small laugh as its empty eyes fell on Forte. (800/800)

“Now, Wicked Plant token, attack Forte directly!”

The small plant shot out at Forte and sank its teeth in Forte’s arm. Forte gave a short growl before shaking the plant off.

    Forte: 6700
    Rose: 8000

“Your move Forte,” Rose said as a smug grin appeared on her face.

Forte scowled as he drew, and then grinned.

“Payback time,” he chuckled, “I play Premature Burial!”

A stone coffin rose from the earth. The lid was pushed aside and the Witty Phantom stepped out. (1400/1000)

    Forte: 5900
    Rose: 8000

“And now, I’ll sacrifice him, to summon, Lesser Fiend!”

The Witty Phantom tipped his hat and vanished. Forte’s Lesser Fiend appeared on the field and roared (2100/1000)

“Lesser Fiend! Attack the Wicked Plant Token!”

The fiend dove at the small plant and slashed it with its four claws. It was sliced into ribbons before dissappearing.

    Forte: 5900
    Rose: 6700

“Why didn’t you attack Vampire Orchis?” Rose asked, “He’s clearly the bigger threat here!”

“True. But I’m no amataur. I know that if I attacked your tree, Des Dendle would have been destroyed instead of it. At least this way, I do some more damage.” Forte grinned and Rose sneered.

So this clown knows his monsters huh? I guess I’d better take it up a notch then.

    “My move!”

    Rose smiled.

“First, I’ll unequip Des Dendle from Vampire Orchis!”

Fotre raised an eyebrow as the slime slithered off of her monster.

“What’s the point of that?” Forte asked.

“You’ll see. Now I’ll sacrifice Des Dendle!”

The small patch of slime rotted away.

“And I’ll summon, Fairy King Truesdale!”

In a whirlwind of flowers, a blonde fairy clad in white, green and gold appeared beside Rose. He clutched the staff he heald in his hands tightly (2200/1500) – (2400/1700)

    Forte smirked.

“I didn’t think a girl like you would be interested in fairies Rose,” he said in a cocky manner, “In fact, I never thought of you as the type to use plants. I thought of you more as the kind to use military hardware or something.”

Rose’s eyes narrowed. Why wasn’t this guy afraid?

“Fairy King Truesdale!” Rase ordered, “Destroy his Lesser Fiend with Power of the Forest!”

The fairy waved his staff and what seemed to be streams of energy seemed to rise out of the forest surrounding them. They came to form a large ball of energy above the king, which he threw directly at Forte’s fiend. It let out a unearthly howl as it was blasted into oblivion.

    Forte: 5600
    Rose: 6700

“Now, Vampire Orchis! Attack Forte directly!”

Forte winced as the plant’s many jaws bit into him.

    Forte:3500
    Rose: 6700

Forte’s carefree attitude faded instantly and was replaced by a angry scowl.

“Your move Forte,” said Rose, grinning.

    Fotre drew.

“I’ll now play Pot of Greed!”

The green, grinning pot appeared before Forte. He reached in and pulled out two cards. He looked at them and then at his hand. A small smile formed on his face.

“I’ll summon Archfiend Soldier in attack mode!”

The dark fioend worrier appeared on the field, gripping its sword tightly. It glared up defiently at the plant monsters in front of it. (1900/1500)

“What the…?” was all Rose could say.

    --------------~*~--------------

“Is he insane!?” Reece shouted from the grandstands, “Archfiend soldier can’t stand up to those guys! What the hell’s he thinking? Does he want to loose!?”

“Sit down kid!” Shouted the man sitting next to him, “some of us want to watch the duel!”

A number of people behind Reece shouted in agreement and the redhead sat down.

    “Sorry.”

    --------------~*~--------------

“Now,” Fort announced, “I’ll play two cards face down.”

The two cards materialized before Fotre.

    “Your move Rose.”

“Rose laughed mentally as she drew.

Who’s this guy trying to fool? It’s obvious those two are traps. But then again, I don’t have anything to get rid of them yet. I’ll guess I’ll just have to wait.

“If you think I’m gonna attack, you must be dumber then you look,” rose taunted.

    Forte smirked.

“Oh, but you will attack me.”

    “What? No I wont!”

“Yes you will. Because you don’t have a choice! I activate my trap card! Crazed Charge!”

The card on the right flipped, revealling an image of a crazed Giant Orc attacking a Black Luster Soldier.

“You see Rose, this card will force one of your cards to attack me, whether you like it or not! And I’ll order your Fairy King to attack!”

The Archfiend Soldier lowered its sword and pulled what would have to be, the most stupid face imaginable. Forte would rather double over laughing then be insulted.

However, it seemed to work as Fairy King’s face twisted into an image of rage. He rose his staff to attack when…

“I’ll activate my second trap card! Shadow Spell!”

Rose gasped as the card flipped and a series of black chains shot out and binded the monster.

“This card stops your monster from moving, and also reduces its attack by 700 points!”

The Fairy King’s eyes widened as his attack fell to 1700.

    Rose groaned.

    “I’ll end my turn.”

Forte gave a cocky smirk as he drew.

“First of all,” said Forte, “I’ll equip my Archfiend Soldier with the magic card Sword of Dark Destruction!”

A demonic looking sword fell from the heavens and the archfiend caught it. Its attack rose to 2300.

“Now, time for me to get rid of that damm fairy! Archfiend Soldier attack!”

Giving out an unearthly warcry, the fiend leapt into the air and slashed at Truesdale with its sword, cleaving him in two. The two halves exploded into pixels shortly afterwards.

    Forte: 3500
    Rose: 6100

    “Your turn Rose.”

Rose snarled as she drew. No doubt that Forte was going to attack Vampire Orchis on his next turn and there really wasn’t anything she could do about it.

She looked at the card she drew and grinned.

    Or was there?

Forte noticed the smile and raised an eyebrow.

“Well Forte,” Rose said confidently, “It’s been fun, but it’s time for me to end this. I play Composte Heap!”

A magic card appeared depicting the image of a Vampire Orchis surrounded by the bodies of dead plant monsters.

“Composte Heap?” Forte asked, a bit taken aback by the cards rediculous name.

“It works like this,” rose explained,” this card only works with plant monsters. I can sacrifice one card I have on the field…”

    Vampire Orchis hissed and dissappeared.

“…as well as remove one plant monster from my graveyard out of play, and I can summon a monster of equal or lesser level to the two monsters I sacrificed. So, I’ll remove my Des Dendle from play, allowing me summon a level eight monster!”

Forte braced himself. Whatever this monster was, it was no doubt going to be strong.

“I now summon, Forest King Redwood!

Now, Forte expected this monster to be huge, but it was enormous! It towered over the trees. It was a giant, living tree. It’s leaves formed a mane around its head. It’s green eyes focused on Forte. It let out a deep growl as it clenched its enormous fists. (2850/2100)

Now that, could be a problem…

Forte’s jaw dropped as he stared up at the huge monster before him. Never had he seen anything like it.

“Now my Forest King! Destroy his Archfiend Soldier!”

The beast took a step forward, shaking the ground before bringing its huge fist down on the fiend. The force of it sent Forte to the ground.

    Forte: 2950
    Rose: 6100

“Talk about overkill,” Forte muttered to himself, even though the Forest King was only stronger by 550 points.

    “Your turn Forte.”

Forte drew and a smug grin apeared on his face.

    Well, talk about good timing.

“I play the magic card, Fissure!” Forte announced as he slapped down the card. Everything went still for a few moments before Forte realized something was wrong.

That bloody tree was still there!

    Rose laughed.

“Sorry Forte,” she laughed, “But Redwood didn’t become king of the forest for nothing. As long as he’s in his kingdom, he can’t be effected by magic, trap cards or monster effects.”

    “Say What!?”

Forte groaned. How the hell was he going to beat something that big! Anything he summoned would be crushed instantly.

“I’ll set a monster in defense mode,” he sighed as he layed down the card, “Your turn.”

    Rose quickly drew.

“Forest King! Smash his face down card!”

The Forest King’s fist crushed the card instantly. A red monster with many eyes appeared before exploding into pixels.

“Big Eye?” Rose muttered, raising an eyebrow.

“Now then, according to the rules, I can see the top five cards in my deck and rearrange them as I like,” said Forte as he drew five cards. Upon seeing them, his eyes widened and he grinned insanely.

“Jackpot!” He cried gleefully as he rearrangde his card. Rose was just confused. What could Forte have that could beat her Forest King?

“Your turn over?” Forte asked, eager to start his turn.

    “Uh, sure.”

    Forte drew.

“Well, you said so yourself that within his kingdom, your Forest King is unstoppable,” Forte said, “So, I’ll just get rid of its kingdom with this! Mystical Space Typhoon!”

Rose gasped as hurricane force winds began ripping up the forest around her. Forte seemed uneffected by the wind, grinning sadistically. When the wind died down, the forest was in ruins. The Forest King looked around at what was once its kingdom

"Now, I'll sumon a card face down in defense mode and another card face down."

    Two cards appeared before Forte.

    "Your turn."

    Rose snarled.

    Another trap no doubt.

"I'll pass this turn." she growled. Forte smirked.

    "You should have attacked."

    Rose laughed.

"And activate your trap? Not a chance."

"Who ever said that card was a trap?"

    "What?"

"I'll flip my monster into attack mode. Brain Jacker!"

A monster which resembled a brian with small arms, legs, wings and an eye appeared on the field. It blinked twice (200/900).

“Now then, they don’t call this monster Brain jacker for nothing. It has the ability to brainwash any one of your monsters, mainly your Forest King!”

The small fiend flew up and latched itself onto the Forest king’s head. It’s eyes turned a blood red as it stepped over to Forte’s side of the field.

Rose stared up in horror at her former monster.

“now then,” Forte laughed, “Let the pain commence! Forest King, attack her directly!”

Rose screamed in pain as the behemoth struck her with an enormous fist.

    Fotre: 2950
    Rose: 4250

    “Your turn Rose.”

“You bastard!” Rose seethed as she drew. She stared at the card in her hand and groaned. Nothing.

"Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention. For every of your standby phases Brain Jacker is in control, you gain 500 lifepoint. Not that it matters."

    Forte: 2950
    Rose: 4750

“I’ll summon a monster in defense mode and end my turn.”

    Forte drew.

“Now, it's time to get ridof that tree. I'll sacrifice your Forest King!"

    “What!?”

Forte placed down a card and the monster groaned as it was consumed in a dark mist.

“I”ll now summon a creature the likes of which you’ve never seen. A creature of pure terror! I now summon, Great Maju Garzett!

A huge, hulking form appeared. It was a terrifying fiend, with dark blue flesh, maroon, armour like bones and green hair. It let out a bone-chilling screech. (5700/4200)

“That card cant be real!” Rose cried out, “No one sacrifice monster can have that much strength!”

“Oh, but it can dear Rose,” Forte spoke almost insanely, “You see, Great Maju Gerzett’s attack is double of that of the monster sacrificed to summon it. So, if you do your math, it all adds up.”

Rose gulped. He was right. She didn’t know what scred her more right now, that fiend or the look on Forte’s face.

“Oh, and don’t think that defense card will help, because I play stop defense!”

“NO!” rose cried as her monster flipped into attack mode, another Des Dendle (300/2000).

    Forte laughed.

“Time to scream bitch! Maju Gerzett! Attack that weed with hellish acid!”

The fiend took a deep breath before bellowing out a smog of pale green mist. Rose could feel the acid burning her as her monster was reduced to sludge. With an attack like that, rose didn’t stand a chance.

    Forte: 2950
    Rose: 0

Half of the crowd cheered as the massive fiend dissapeared. The others were still a bit frightened with what happened, including Reece.

“Man, I know he’s my friend and all, but that guy scares me at times.”

Forte’s insane grin was replaced with his trademark smirk.

“Looks like I win,” he chuckled as Rose got to her feet.

“Well,” she snarled, “I still think you’re a bastard.” And with that, she turned and left.

“Yeesh, it was just a game.”

“That was a great duel dude,” Reece congradulated his friend, “But next time, could you tone down the insanity a bit.” Forte just shrugged.

“I couldn’t help it. That girl just really pissed me off. I finally meet a girl who isn’t a crazy fangirl, and she’d rather wrap me in barb wire and hang me upside down in the dark.”

    “Kinky.”

    Forte twitched.

“Seriously dude, if you weren’t my friend, I’d hurt you. Oh, what the hell. I’ll hurt you anyway.”

Forte gave Reece a sharp punch in the shoulder. The loudspeaker then crackled into life.

“attention duellists, the drawing is over and the next match is Reece Armaverick versus Julian Gaust!”

    “Drawing?” Forte asked, slightly confused.

“There were three people left, so they drew to see who’d be duelling. Guess it looks like you’ve got a few minutes to kill.”

    Forte grinned.

    “Ok dude. Give him hell.”

Reece nodded before turning to leave. Forte headed towards the cafeteria.

Now, who do I have to kill to get a beer around here?

What? This next chapter doesn’t feature me? GAAH!!

Relax Reece. We’re just giving the people what they want, more me!

    …I hate you sometimes.

Yeah, I know. Next chapter, Peace Talks. See ya there.

    …bastard…

Okay, first I'll point out mistakes:

Burning Land does more than destroy a Field Card. It is a Continuous Spell that causes each player to lose 500 LP for every Standby Phase that it is in effect.

Also, The Shallow Grave should have let Rose revive a Monster as well (ie, her Grass Phantom, since it was the only Monster in her Graveyard.)

    But anyway...

It was a good chapter. I hope that we can see more of Rose in the future. (I was expecting her to use more Grass Phantoms to take advantage of their effect).

So when will the meat of this story occur? Will the villains rear their heads soon?

I'm liking what I see so far - Keep it up!

God, I love Forte. Seriously! I love heroes, who are evil and twisted and psychotic and so on and so on.
I actually thought Rose would use Warrior monsters. Why, I dont know.

But still, it was pretty good.

P.s. Since Reece had a Creator in his deck, does he play a Light-deck or something?

DS:...I've got to leanr more about these cards before I use them. I'll edit it now. Don't worry, the story will kick in soon.

Mookie: glad you liked him, I'm just sick of heroes who are all goddie-two-shoes. As for Reece, look at the Creator again, there's something about it that's on common with all the cards in Reece's deck.

I'd like to point out now, there will be no duelling in the next chapter, but there will be a bit of violance and swearing (no blood or killing though).

I really liked that episode. There are few characters who use plant monsters because there are so few plants. It's a good chapter, what with that spiteful woman opponent. Forte is really insane, don't you think?

    Keep it up.

Of course not. Because that'd suck really, really hard. Unfortunately, even though you didn't think about it, this guy did.

    Chapter 4: Peace Talks

Forte leaned back in one of the cafeteria seats as he munched on the chocolate bar he got from the machine. No luck finding any beer around the place, but, considering that this was a university, Forte didn’t really get his hopes up too high. Instead he just settled for a soda.

This was it, the final match of the tournament and Forte knew it would be against Reece. All he had to do was wait until he beat this Gaust first. In the meantime, Forte figures he’d just laze around.

At least, that was the plan.

Forte was just about to fall asleep when he heard footsteps nearby. Someone walked into the cafeteria. Reece must have finished his match early.

“How’d the match go Ree-“ He stopped mid-sentence when he saw who it was.

It was the one person he did not want to see right now.

The one person who’d gladly push Forte off the roof of a tall building given the chance.

The person who Forte beat in the last match.

The woman named Rosette Elenor, A.K.A. Rose.

Rose didn’t seem to thrilled to see Forte either.

“Oh, it’s you.” She said with a hint of annoyance. Forte just grunted as he looked away.

    “What do you want?”

“If you want to know, I’m just here to get something to eat.”

Rose walked over to the vending machine and got a chocolate bar. She sat down at another table away from Forte.

Forte continued munching on his little treat and took a sip of coke before looking over at Rose. He noticed the girl giving Forte a sour glare before going back to her bar.

“Is someone still upset over loosing?” he called out in a mocking tone.

“No,” she replied flatly, “just that some brainless ass is going to the finals instead of me.”

    Forte shook off the insult.

“Don’t feel too bad. Many people have been pounded into the dirt by me.”

    “Yeah, mostly lower lifeforms.”

Forte shot a dark glare over at Rose. What was here problem?

“Oh, I get it,” Forte replied, knowing all too well what could result from this, “It’s that time of the month huh?”

Rose gave the lavender haired teen an icy glare. This guy was pushing it.

“What’s your problem?” she snarled, “You won your little duel, now just leave me alone.”

    Forte got his feet.

“What’s MY problem? You’re the one acting like a total bitch. Some guy was going to try to take advantage of you and I save you, and for what? So you could ram your fist into my gut? You’re the one with the problem, not me.”

Rose got to her feet and stomped over to him.

“Yeah, and I suppose you were thinking you could screw me just because you saved me. I don’t need some lavender-haired bastard to protect me. I can handle myself!”

    Forte rolled his eyes.

“Let’s clear one thing up ok? I don’t want to sleep with you! That’s the last thing on my mind. I’d rather sleep with a dog,” his eyes narrowed, “Although, I guess that wouldn’t make much of a difference now would it?”

Rose gasped and then slapped him, hard. Everything went dead quiet as Forte gave her a cold glare. The kind of glare that said someone was going to get hurt.

    He slapped her back.

Rose growled and dove at Forte, tackling him to the ground. Forte tried to throw the girl off of him as she tried to claw at his face. Upon failing that, Forte grabbed her wrists, pushing them away form his face before driving his knee into her side. Rose cried out in pain before delivering a punch to Forte’s right eye. Forte growled as his left instinctly shot up to cover his sore eyes. He grabbed Rose by the throat with his right hand and threw her into one of the tables.

Rose quickly recovered from having her head hit the table edge and grabbed hold of Forte, dragging him back to the floor. This fight quickly degeneratde to the two rolling along the floor biting, scratching, kicking, punching and name calling.

    “Bastard!”

    “Bitch!”

    “Asshole!”

    “Dyke!”

    “Fag!”

    “Whore!”

After a few moments, Forte kicked the girl off of her and the two scrambled to their feet. The two stood glaring at eachother and panting. Forte quickly wiped a bit of blood from his lip. As much as he wanted to rip the girl’s head off, this fight was really taking its toll. He gave an annoyed grunt as he turned and walked over to the far end of the cafeteria, sitting down. Rose did the same.

Everything was silent for a few moments, the two teenagers trying to calm down after their little wrestling match. Fotre couldn’t remove the angry scowl from his face. He hated that girl so much!

He fumbled around in his pockets, tying to find soemthign to take his mind off of it. His hand fell to his deck holder when it came back to him. He pulled out a card and looked at it.

It was the card the old guy gave to him.

Forte was hoping to at least figure something out just by looking at it, but unfortunately, it seemed that Forte would have to learn ancient Egyptian to make heads or tails of it.

So Forte just sat there, looking at it.

“What kind of monster is that?”

Forte jumped as he noticed Rose standing behind him, looking over his shoulder at the card. She must have seen it and gotten curious.

Forte flipped the card face down so she couldn’t see it.

“What’s it to you?” he asked, still annoyed about what happened. Rose frowned.

“Don’t be a dick. Just let me see the card.”

“After what you just did, no thank you.”

    Rose just shrugged.

    “Ok then.”

Now, Fort was expecting the girl to go over to the opposite end of the room and sit back down. What he wasn’t expecting was for her to grab hold of his ponytail and give it a good hard yank. Fotre yelped in pain as his hands shot up, trying to pry her hands loose.

“Yoink,” Rose chimed as she swiped the card from Forte’s hand. She let go of his hair.

Forte shot Rose and venomous glare. She just ignored him and looked at the card.

“Do you know what this card reminds me of?” Rose asked. Forte got up and snatched the card out of her hands.

    “What?”

“It’s like that Winged Dragon of Ra card Yugi has. It’s supposed to be written egyptian too.”

    Rose then had a thought.

“What if that card is like an egyptian god card? Why haven’t you used it?”

Forte was silent for a few moments. Maybe this card was an egyptian god. However, something told him that was very unlikely.

“I don’t think so,” he replied, “There are supposed to be only three egyptian gods, Slifer, Obelisk and Ra. Also, this card doesn’t seem to be a divine being at all. It looks more like a fiend monster.”

    Forte paused.

“Or a really demented looking spell caster.”

That statement seemed pretty accurate. The monster depicted seemed humanoid. It resembled a man with shaggy blonde hair, wearing a white coat, which was left open, black pants, black knee-high boots and a tall hat with a feather in it. What made it appear as a fiend was the redish-black bat wings sprouting from its back and the green cat-like eyes. It was carrying some sort of scythe.

    “Beside, I can’t use it. I don’t speak Egyptian.”

    “Where’d you get it?”

    Forte looked back at Rose.

“Some old guy gave it to me.”

“How much did it cost you?”

“Nothing really. He gave it to me for free.”

Rose quirked an eyebrow. Why would some old guy give him a card like that for free?

“Anyway,” Fort spoke, “Since you’re asking all the questions, I think I should ask you some now.”

Rose put her hands on her hips.

“Before you say anything, no, I wont go on a date with you. I’m not a lesbian and no, I’m not telling you my bra size.” She said, narrowing her eyes.

“Firstly, I told you I wouldn’t want to go near you, let alone date you. Secondly, I wasn’t going to ask that, but thanks for the info.”

Rose’s face turned a pale scarlet, slightly embarrassed.

“I was going to ask why you use plant monsters,” Forte said, “You don’t seem to be the kind of girl who uses them.”

Rose just walked over to a nearby wall and leaned back on it.

“My mom owns a flourist,” she explained, “I’ve spent a great deal of my life around plants. So, it only makes sense that I like plant monsters.”

“I see,” Forte replied as he sat down on a chair near her, “Where is it?”

    “It’s on Prospect.”

“Ok, cool,” Forte smirked, “Now I know where to send the letter bombs.”

Rose shot him a sharp glare. Forte just shrugged innocently.

“What? Just because we’re talking doesn’t mean we’re friends.”

    Rose’s eyes widened slightly.

“Uh, no, of course not,” Rose agreed rather quickly, “I still think you’re a bastard.”

    “And I still think you’re a bitch.”

The two were silent for a few moments before Forte spok up.

“I mean, this is just a temperary truce since punching the crap out of eachother didn’t really do anything.”

“Yes, of course. We wont do that next time.”

“No…next time there’ll be sharp objects.”

    “Or explosives”

“Or any other object capable of maiming a person.”

    “Yes, of course.”

    Silence followed.

    “Hey Rose.”

    “Yeah?”

“Why did you enter the tournament anyway?”

Rose looked over at him and raised an eyebrow.

“For the free vacation,” she replied, “what did you think?”

“And what were you going to do there?”

“Nothing much really. See the sights, do some shopping.” Rose gave the eighteen year old a hard glare. “Of course I can’t do those things now because of a certain someone!”

    Forte just laughed.

“No need to thank me,” he replied with a teasing experssion. Rose just sneered at him.

“So, what were you planning to do in Japan?” she asked. Forte grinned.

“Challenge Yugi Mouto,” he replied simply. Rose’s eyes widened.

“You plan to challenge the king of games yourself?” she almost laughed, “what makes you think you could stand a chance against.”

    “I don’t.”

Rose gave him a strange look.

“Maybe I’ll win,” he continued as if notice, “maybe he’ll beat me, or maybe he’ll totally outclass me. I’ll never know unless I duel him.”

“But why would you duel him if you don’t know if you can win?”

    Forte winked at her.

“Because it makes it more exciting! All the duels I play lately are all too easy. I know I’m going to win.”

At that last sentace, Rose gave Forte a cold glare.

“What about our duel?” she spoke darkly, “did you think you’d win that?”

Forte shrugged casually, ignoring the glare being given to him.

“For most of the time, yeah, I did. I’ll admit, there were times when you got the better of me. But to be honest, I wasn’t in any real trouble.”

The expression on Rose’s face was a combination of amazement and anger.

I can’t believe this guy! Sure, he beat me, I’ll admit that. But this guy’s acting as if I was some rookie! He was in trouble and he knows it!

Rose’s glare darkened as her hands clenched into tight fists.

“You little…!” she seethed through clenched teeth. It looked as if the couple’s little punch-up was going to continue again, but then…

“Hey Forte,” came a voice from the doorway.

The two looked over to see Reece standing there, his eyes downcast. Forte got up from his chair and walked over to him.

“Hey Reece,” Forte said cheerfully, before noticing the sad expression on his friend’s face, “How’d the duel go?”

Reece was silent for a moment or so.

    “I lost…” he mumbled.

“You lost!?” Forte replied, almost yelling it out. Reece just nodded.

“This guy was a lot tougher then I thought,” he explained, “He seemed like a sure thing…but then…”

“Forte Angelo,” the loudspeaker interrupted, “please report to the gymnasium for the final duel of the tournament. I repeat, Forte Angelo please report to the gymnasium for the final duel of the tournament.”

Forte looked up at the loudspeaker before turning to his friend.

“I guess I’ve got to duel him,” Forte said, “wish me luck buddy.”

Reece lookde up at his friend’s eyes.

    “Good luck dude,” he replied.

Forte headed towards the door when Reece said something.

“by the way,” he asked, “What happened to your eye?”

Forte looked at his reflection on one of the metal lunch trays to find that he had a black eye where Rose had punched him. Without saying a word, he jerked a thumb in the girl’s direction.

Reece looked over at Rose and noticed some scratches on her neck. His lips curled into a small, amused smile.

“You’re telling me, that you two…” Reece said, trying not to laugh.

“Shuttup!” the two teens growled before he could finish.

Forte turned and left the cafeteria. It was time for the final match, against Gaust.

Well, this is it guys, time for the final match. This Gaust guy has to be one weird duellist. This guy chooses to do the opposite to what most duellists do. But that doesn’t make him any less a threat. Stick around for the next chapter Graveyard Shift. Now if you excuse me, I’ve got a tournament to win!

OK, I bet that Forte and Rose will fall in love.
I also bet that Gaust will use an Exchange of Whatever It Is Called deck. It's the trap card that swaps the graveyard with the deck at the cost 1000 life points.

Exchange of Spirits? Doesnt that cost 1500 lp? Not that its that big of a difference anyway.

The chapter was good. Too bad there wasnt a duel, but I hope the next duel will be awesome.

About Rose...well... I dont like her. I just dont like her. Seems and acts like a total bit-...yah.
She just annoys me. But she is a good character. I just dont like her.

But I liked the fight between Forte and Rose. And the part, when Forte was going to ask her a question and she thought she knew, what he was going to ask.
The monster card seems interesting. And if it IS a fiend, it should fit Forte's deck perfectly.

...I just hope the conflict and anger between Forte and Rose lasts for atleast few more chapters. Its funny and entertaining.

    Anyway, the chapter was good.

An interesting chapter. Rose is quickly becoming an intersting character.

Not much to say, since it was mostly character development. But do try to keep the swearing down. Too much of that for its own sake can ruin a story.

    But keep going!

I think that was a nice interlude. And we finally see what the monster looks like. I have a feeling that Rose will become an important character later on. Anyways, keep up the good work.

    Chapter 5: Graveyard Shift

“Ladies and Gentlemen!” Penelope vitrually screamed out, “Welcome to the final duel of the “Fight to Domino” tournmanet! Whoever wins this one gets the trip to Japan! In our final match, it’s our very own Forte Angelo, versus the mysterious Julian Gaust!”

Forte stepped up onto the stage. His opponent was already there.

Gaust was dressed in a very peculier fashion. Most of his body was covered by a large brown overcoat which was at least two sizes too big. A pale grey, slightly crumpled steeple hat sat on his head and he had an old red scarf around his neck. Apart from that, Forte couldn’t see any other article of clothing. His hair was untidy and reached down to his chin and from where Forte was standing, seemed to be a greyish-blue. His eyes were a calm, cloudy blue and his skin was slightly pale.

Forte gave a small sigh of relief. So far so good. He knew Gaust didn’t have anything against him, as they had just met, and he didn’t seem like a crackpot.

Gaust blinked, as if he just noticed something, and his face took on a more curious look.

“Um, excuse me Forte,” he asked, out of the blue in a soft voice, “but um…”

“What happened to your eye!?” Mimi exclaimed.

Forte rolled his eyes. He was hoping noone would notice the black eye that Rose had given him before. He wasn’t willing to explain how he got into a fight with her.

“I had a bit of, ‘girl trouble’.” Forte replied, hoping to get off the subject as quickly as possible.

What!?” Mimi screeched, “Who’s the hussy!? I’ll rip her apart!”

Forte groaned. Leave it to Mimi to make a big deal out of everything. Gaust meanwhile found this very amusing and was chuckling softly.

“Is she always like this?” he asked.

“Unfortunately so,” Forte replied as he slid his deck into this duel disk, “Now then, let’s get this duel on the road.”

    Gaust nodded. “I agree.”

    Forte: 8000
    Gaust: 8000

“I’ll go first,” Forte said as he drew. He looked at his crds and a small smile appeared on his face.

    Not a bad start.

“I’ll summon Ryukishin Powered in attack mode!”

Forte’s demonic gargoyle let out a dangerous growled as it glared at Gaust (1600/1200)

    “Your move.”

    Gaust just calmly drew.

“First of all,” he spoke, “I’ll set one monster face down in defense mode.”

A face down card appeared before him.

“And now I’ll play Card Destruction.”

Forte let out a small gasp and then a low growl.

    So long Great Maju Garzett.

He discared his hand and drew four new cards. He looked at his new hand and his trademark smirk returned.

This hand isn’t so bad either.

Gaust had calmly done the same thing, his content expression hadn’t left his face.

    “Your turn Forte.”

Forte drew. There was something about this guy that crepped him out a bit.

“I’ll summon Grand Tiki Elder in attack mode!”

The spooky Tiki appeared before his master, its hadns waving wildly around and its eyes on Gaust’s face down card. (1500/1800)

“Now, Ryukishin Powered! Attack his face down card!”

The fiend dived at Gaust’s face down card, slashing it with its claws. The image of a freaky looking pot with an equally freaky face at its entrance appeared. It let out a shrill cry before vanishing.

“A Morphing Jar!?” Forte gasped. Gaust just nodded as he calmly slid his hand into the discard slot. Forte growled and did the same.

“And now! Grand Tiki Eldar! Attack him directly!”

The Tiki began reciting a weird chant as waves of dark energy emitted from it at Gaust. Gaust braced himself slightly as his life points dropped.

    Forte: 8000
    Gaust: 6500

    “It’s your turn Gaust.”

Gaust drew and a ghost of a smile appeared on his lips.

“I’ll place one card face down.”

A face down card appeared before Gaust.

“And I’ll place another card face down in defense mode. And I’ll end my turn.”

Forte drew. There was definitely something wrong with this guy.

“I’ll summon Skull Knight #2 in attack mode!”

Forte’s knight appeared and drew its blade. (1000/1200)

“Ryukishin Powered! Attack his face down card!”

The gargoyle attacked and Forte was shocked to find that it was, once again, another Morphing Jar.

    Another one!?

Gaust calmly sent his hand to the graveyard and drew a new one. Forte did the same.

what is it with this guy? All he’s been doing is sending our cards to the graveyard. At this rate, one of us going to be decked out.

Forte looked at the playing field. Gaust had no monsters on the field and one face down card. Meanwhile, Forte had thre monsters. He was certain that Gaust’s face down card was a trap, but he had to take the risk. If Gaust kept this up, Forte would deck out and loose.

“Skull Knight!” Fotre ordered, “Attack Gaust directly!”

“I activate my trap,” Gaust replied in a calm tone, “Ghostly Adversary!”

The trap card rose, showing an image of a ghostly figure giving orders at a group of monsters.

“What?” Forte had never seen a card like that before and he was just plain confused. His eyes widened when he noticed a strange mist surrounding Gaust.

Forte’s Skull Knight leaped at Gaust, its sword ready to strike. Forte was shocked (as was everyone else) when the monster’s attack seemed to pass right through him.

    “What the heck!?” Forte cried.

“It’s quite simple,” Gaust explained, “As long as Ghostly Adversary is on the field, you cannot attack me directly.”

    Forte gasped, and then growled.

    --------------~*~--------------

“That clever prick!” Reece gasped from his seat in the audience, “He’s pulling the same stunt he pulled on me!” He had never seen a trap like that before, but the way Gaust was playing, it seemed ideal for him.

“Hey, you’re Forte’s friend right? Reece was it?” Reece turned to see none other then Rose standing behind him.

“Yeah,” Reece replied, “and you’re that psycho chick who wants to make Forte a homocide victim.”

    Rose’s eyes narrowed.

    “My name is Rose.”

    “Ok, whatever.”

Rose rolled her eyes and sat down next to him.

“So, how’s the duel going?” she asked.

Not so good,” Reece replied, “Forte’s up by 1500 lifepoints, but Gaust’s pulled out the Ghostly Adversary trap card.”

    Rose’s eyes widened slightly.

“Ghostly Adversary? I’ve heard of that card. It’s ideal for those using Deck Destruction decks.”

“Yeah,” Reece’s voice became grave, “but that’s not what he’s going to do.”

Rose raised an eyebrow in confusion.

“He’s not? Then what’s he planning?”

“If this is going to be anything like my duel with him, Forte could be in big trouble.”

    --------------~*~--------------

Forte glared at his opponent. This seemed almost perfect for him. All Gaust had to do now was wait for forte to deck out and he’d win. There wasn’t much Forte could do now.

“I’ll end my turn,” Forte announced.

Gaust drew, and a small smile appeared on his calm face.

“First of all,” he said, “Because of my Ghostly Adversary card, I have to take one monster from my graveyard and remove it from play in order to keep it active.”

He removed one card from his graveyard and out of play.

“And now I’ll play a card called Sacrificial Draw.”

A magic card appeared with an image depicting two monsters on a sacrificial alter with a deck of cards in the middle.

“This card requires me to send a number of monster cards to the graveyard,” Gaust explained, “but in exchange, I can search my deck for a monster with a level equal or less then the total level of the monsters sacrificed.”

    He looked at his hand.

“I think I’ll send these two to the graveyard.”

He discarded two cards. He pulled out his deck and began searching.

“Here it is,” he spoke with a hint of cheerfulness in his voice. He reshuffled his deck and put it back in the disk while he placed the card in his hand.

“And now, I’ll play Change of Heart.”

Forte scowled as the card appeared on the field.

“I think I’ll take control of your Ryukishin,” Gaust spoke as the angel from the card posessed the monster. Ryukishin’s eyes went blank as it walked over to Gaust’s side.

    “And now, I’ll sacrifice it.”

A green mist seeped through the floor, engulfing the fiend.

“I’ll summon noe of my most dangerous monsters,” Gaust continued in a grave voice, “Arise Shadow Ghoul!

A horendous beast appeared on the field. It was green with four legs, a pair of arms and a mane of dark green hair. Its multiple, glassy red eyes focused on Forte as it let out a high pitched screech. (1600/1300)

“And because of its effect,” Gaust spoke, “It gains 100 attack points for every monster in my graveyard. And since I have twelves monsters in my graveyard, it gains 1200 attack points!”

Forte gasped as the ghoul’s attack sky-rocketted to 2800.

It all makes sense now! Not only does having all those cards in his graveyard allow him to have the Ghostly Adversary card on the field, it opers up his Shadow Ghoul! Why didn’t I see this coming!?

“Now Shadow Ghoul,” said Gaust as he pointed at the Skull Knight, “Attack his Skull Knight!”

The Shadow Ghoul let out a shriek as it fired six emerald beam from its eyes. They struck the Knight head on, blowing it away.

    Forte: 6200
    Gaust: 6500

    “Your move Forte”

Forte growled as he drew. This was just great. Not only couldn’t Forte attack Gaust directly, but now he had that huge behemoth on the field. What’s more, Forte had nothing in his hand to destroy that thing.

“I”ll summon one monster face down in defense mode and I’ll switch Grand Tiki Elder in defense mode!”

The Tiki held its arms over its face as a face down card appeared next to it.

    “I’ll end my turn.”

Gaust drew. He took a card from his graveyard and removed it from play. The Shadow Ghoul’s attack fell down to 2700. Forte noticed this.

Wait a minute. If he keeps that Ghostly Adversary card in play, his Shadow Ghoul will just keep getting weaker.

    Forte smirked.

    This could be useful.

“Shadow Ghoul, attack his Grand Tiki Elder.”

The ghoul attacked and the tiki was gone.

    “You’re move.”

    Forte drew. Still nothing.

“I’ll summon another card face down in defense mode. Your turn.”

Gaust drew as the card materialised on the field. He removed another card from play and his monster’s attack dropped to 2600.

    “Attack Shadow Ghoul.”

The ghoul blasted the face down card. The bulky form of Big Eye appeared before exploding into pixels. Forte drew the top five cards of his deck.

“Since you destroyed Big Eye while it was face down, “Forte smirked, “Time for me to do some rearranging.”

He looked at the face down cards and his eyes widened.

    Oh, thank you Lord!

He quickly rearranged the cards and slipped them back into his deck.

“It’s your move Forte,” Gaust said, that ever content expression remained on his face.

    Forte drew.

“It’s time I got rid of that ghoul!” Forte shouted, “I sacrifice my face down card!”

    The card shattered into pixels.

“And I’ll summon the man himself, Dark Ruler Ha Des!”

Forte’s fiendish king appeared on the field. He took a sip of wine before gazing over at Gaust and grinning. (2400/1600).

“But wait, there’s more! I now equip to him, the Black Pendant!”

A pendant with a dark jewel appeared around Ha Des’ neck. The fiend’s grinned widened as his attack rose to 2900.

“Now, destroy that ghoul with Flames of the Dark Ruler!” The fiend sent a river of black fire at the ghoul, incinerating it instantly.

    Forte: 6200
    Gaust: 6200

    --------------~*~--------------

“Way to go Forte!” Rose cheered from the crowd.
    Reece raised an eyebrow.

“I thought you hated Forte,” he said.

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I want him to loose. If I’m knocked out, I may as well be knocked out by the one who won the tournament.”

“Uh huh,” Reece replied, rather confused. He’d never understand this woman, “But anyway, with that Shadow Ghoul gone, it should be all clear for Forte.”

“You mean you couldn’t beat it?”

“He had a lot more monsters in the graveyard by the time he summoned it. It wiped the floor with me.”

    “Oh.”

    -------------~*~--------------

“Well, that’s it for my turn,” Forte said, grinning. Now that his ghoul was gone, there was one more problem to deal with.

Gaust drew and removed a card from his graveyard from play.

That damm Ghostly Adversary card. As long as it’s in play, Forte wouldn’t be able to attack him directly.

Gaust frowned slightly at the loss of his monster, but it soon faded as he looked at his hand.

“I’ll play one card face down and end my turn.” A face down card materialised before him.

Forte drew. Gaust had no cards on the field, and attacking would do nothing thanks to that Ghostly Adversary card.

He looked at the card he drew and smirked.

Attack with monsters wont do squat. But what about magic cards?

“I play the magic card, Meteor of Destruction!”

Gaust’s eyes widened slightly as the room grew dark and was then lit up by the fiery meteor before it struck him. The sheer force of it knocked the boy to the ground.

    Forte: 6500
    Gaust: 5200

Forte let out a small chuckle. He had figured out the weakness of Gaust’s Ghostly Adversary. He could still take damage by destroying his monsters and by using magic cards. He was back in business.

    “Your turn Gaust.”

Gaust simply nodded as he drew. He removed one more card from play to keep Ghostly Adversary active.

“I now activate my trap card!” Gaust announced, raising his voice slightly, “Return from a Different Dimension!”

Forte stepped back a bit. He knew what Return From a Different Dimension could do.

“I”ll now use it to bring back the monsters I removed from play because of my trap card, at the cost of half my life points!”

    Forte: 6200
    Gaust: 2600

A vortex opened up above them and five monsters fell out, landing gracefully before Gaust.

One was an undead tiger wrapped in bandages, a Zombie Tiger (1400/1600). The second was a rotting Dragon Zombie (1600/0). The third resembled the corpse of a clown, the Clown Zombie (1350/0). The fourth were a pair of zombies, supporting eachother, the Three Legged Zombies (1100/800) and the last was a freaky looking thing coming out of a treasure chest, a Yaranzo (1300/1500).

Forte was now confused. What was Gaust’s deck? At first he thought it was a Deck Destruction deck, but now it seemed to be a Zombie deck. Was it a combination of the two? Also, why did he bother bringing back such weak zombies? Was he planning to sacrifice them for something?

“And now,” Gaust continued, “I will play a magic card, Dark Hole!”

Forte gasped. It had been ages since a duellist used that card. A dark vortex opened up above them. Forte was almost pulled off of his feet as every monster on the field was ingulfed by it. When the vortex cleared, only he and Gaust remained.

Forte was not only shocked at what happened to his favourite card, but was also wondering why Gaust did it.

Why did Gaust bring those monsters back, just to send them to the graveyard?

Gaust pulled one more card from his hand.

“I now play the magic card, Monster Reborn!”

Forte’s eyes widened. He realized too late what was happening.

“Rejoin the world of the living, Shadow Ghoul!”

The room seemed to grow cold as the terrifying form of Gaust’s ghoul reappeared. It’s attack at 2800 due to the cards in the graveyard.

“Before I attack, I choose to equip my monster with this card, Violet Crystal! It’ll raise my monster’s attack by 300 points.”

A violet crystal appeared before the ghoul. It shot towards it and buried itself into its chest. The ghoul writhed a bit as its body was surrounded by a violet aura. It let out a bone-chilling shriek as its attack rose to 3100.

Forte could feel some sweat treakle down his face. Here he was, facing this monstrosity and he was completely defenceless.

“Now my ghoul,” Gaust commanded, “Attack Forte directly!”

The monster reared its head and fired six beams of violet energy at Forte. He lavender haired duellist cried out in pain as the beams struck him before collapsing to the ground.

    Forte: 3100
    Gaust: 2600

“Come on Forte!” Reece yelled out from the audience, “Get up!”

Forte groaned as he climbed to his feet, his joints aching like hell.

“I”ll end my turn,” Gaust announced, “and due to the rules of my trap, my five monsters are once again removed from play.” He removed the cards and the ghoul’s attack fell to 2600.

Forte drew. He was in big trouble. That monster was even stronger now thanks to the violet crystal, and all his best cards were in the graveyard.

He looked at the card he drew.

    This might help.

“First of all,” Forte announced, “I”ll summon Witty Phantom in defense mode!”

Forte’s phantom appeared. He knelt down and crossed his arms. (1500/1200).

“And now I’ll play, Nightmare Steel cage!”

In a burst of flame, an iron, dome shaped cage with spikes surrounded Forte and his monster. The Shadow Ghoul growled as it shook the bars.

    “I’ll end my turn there.”

Well, at least that cage bought me some time.

Gaust drew and then removed a card. The ghoul’s attack fell to 2500.

“I”ll play a card face down and end my turn.”

The card materialised next to the ghoul.

Forte drew again and smiled slightly.

    This could be useful.

“I’ll place one card face down.”

    The card appeared before Forte.

“And now I’ll summon Archfiend Soldier in defense mode!”

Forte’s fiend appeared next to the phantom and knelt down. It drew its blade and heald it in a defensive position. (1900/1000)

    “Your move.”

Gaust drew and removed another card from the graveyard. He smiled at his newest card.

“I’ve drawn my second Violet Crystal, which I’ll equip onto my Shadow Ghoul!”

A second crystal appeared and buried itself in the ghoul’s chest. The aura intensified and even its eyes turned purple. Its attack rose to 2800.

“Now, I’ll activate my trap card. Graverobber’s Retribution!”

Forte’s eyes widened and he gasped. He should have known Gaust would have a card like that in his deck.

“With this card activate, you receive damage every turn depending on how many monsters I’ve removed from play. Since I’ve removed seven, you’ll loose 700 attack points.”

Forte growled, but he couldn’t hide the fear in his eyes.

That’s one heck of a combo. Ghostly Adversary removes cards from play, and Graverobber’s Retribution grows stronger because of it!

“It’s your turn Forte,” Gaust said, “and now, your magic card has worn off, allowing me to attack on my next turn!”

Forte’s steel cage began to dissolve. Gausts’s ghoul shattered the weakened bars and let out a powerful cry before glaring at Forte.

“And let’s not forget about my little trap card.

The trap card glowed with a dark aura. Forte felt like someone was burnign him from the inside as his lifepoints dropped.

    Forte: 2200
    Gaust: 2600

Forte could see the grin on Gaust’s face. From someone who seemed devoid of all emotion throughout the entire duel, it seemed, rather creepy.

    Forte drew.

“I’ll now play Pot of Greed!”

The green, rather creepy looking, pot appeared before Forte. He reached in and pulled out two cards. Forte couldn’t bare to look at them.

Please be good, please be good, please be good.

He looked at the cards and gasped.

One of the cards he drew was the card he got from the old man.

I…I didn’t put that in my deck!

He looked at Gaust’s Shadow Ghoul, and then back at the card. While he couldn’t read the writing, he figured the symbols next to what he thought was the cards name was the card’s level. There were eight of them.

    Well, let’s hope this works.

Forte’s eyes took on a determined look.

“I now sacrifice my two monsters.”

The two monsters nodded and dissappeared into dark mist.

    “To summon…!”

The next words to come out of his mouth came out on their own, as if they weren’t his.

    ”Overfiend Mephisto!”

Dark energy began to surround the disk and even Forte himself. His eyes changed from green to violet before changing back to green. It felt as if something was merging with him. He watched in amazement as a pentagram made from purple fair appeared on the field. The monster from the card rose up from the floor, his body bound in chains. His green eyes snapped open and suddenly the chains broke apart.

The room returned to normal, but the monster remained, his scythe appeared in his hands. (2700/2000)

Then what happened next was, unexpected.

Mephisto blinked twice, and then yawned. It then spun around to face Forte, a happy glint in his eyes.

“Thanks for waking me up pal,” he chimed, taking hold of one of Forte’s hands, “What’s your name?”

Forte was now just plain confused. He knew Pegesus gave his monsters some personality, but he never expected one to talk to him. Still, he may as well play along.

    “Um, Forte,” Forte replied.

“Pleasure to meet ya Forte. You can call me Mephisto,” Mephisto spun around to face the ghoul, “Now, what do you want me to do?”

Forte was still a bit amazed by this. He knew asking this would be a bit stupid, but then again, maybe not.

    “Um, Mephisto?”

    “Yeah?”

    “What exactly do you do?”

Forte could see he was resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

    “Read the card dummy.”

Forte did just that and his eyes widened. The card was no longer in Egyptian, but English. Forte quickly got over this and read it. His trademark smirk returned to his face.

    “Perfect.”

Gaust, who was just as confused as Forte during all this, noticed Forte’s smirked and furrowed his brow slightly.

“Mephisto,” Forte ordered, “Let’s use your effect to get rid of his Ghostly Adversary card!”

“Excellent choice sir,” Meophisto replied in a phony french accent. He closed his eyes in concentration and suddenly, a pair of jaws shot up from the earth, devouring the card. Gaust jumped back in shock.

“Now, I’ll activate my trap card, Reverse Trap!”

    Gaust gasped.

“Judging by your reaction, you know what this card does.”

Gaust could only watch as his monster’s attack fell to 500

“Now, I’ll use the second card I drew, Premature Buriel, to bring back Lesser Fiend!”

Forte’s fiend crawled out of the earth, shaking it off as it stood upright. (2100/1000)

“Now, Lesser Fiend, attack his Shadow Ghoul!”

The ghoul was powerless to defend itself as it was torn to shreds by Forte’s fiend.

    Forte: 2200
    Gaust: 1000

“And now, Mephisto, attack Gaust directly with Chaos Nightmare!”

Mephisto grinned as it spun is scythe around. A pentagram of dark energy appeared before him. He thrust his palm through it and a blast of dark energy struck Gaust. He groaned in pain, as he collapsed to the floor.
    Forte: 2200
    Gaust: 0

Everything was silent for a few seconds.

“Well,” Mimi said, still trying to get over what happened, “It’s over! The winner of the duel, and the tournament, is Forte Angelo!”

The crowd went absolutely nuts. Mephisto turned to Forte.

“Nice duel Forte,” he said, giving him a thumbs up, “Looking forward to working with you again.”

    Forte smiled.

    “Me too.”

Mephisto grinned as he and the Lesser Fiend disappearared.

Forte walked over to Gaust, offering his hand.

    “Need a lift?”

Gaust stared at it for a few seconds before giving a friendly smile and taking it. Forte pulled him to his feet.

“Thanks for the duel,” Forte said, “I have to admit, it’s the best one I’ve had all day.”

Gaust nodded in agreement, “same here.”

Reece and Rose stared wide-eyed at Forte.

    “Wow,” Reece muttered.

    “That card’s strong,” Rose said.

    “Yeah.”

    Rose stood up.

“Well, I’ve got to be going. Since I know Forte’s won, I don’t need to be here anymore.”

    Reece watched as she left.

    “…weird.”

    --------------~*~-------------

Amongst the cheering fans, a figure, whose face was covered by his trench coat and hat gazed down at Forte.

“So,” he said to himself, “He’s the one who has it.”

He reached for mobile and dialed a number.

“Yes?” came a voice on the other end.

“Sir,” the man replied, “I found it.”

    “You have!? Where!?”

“A boy named Forte Angelo has it.”

“Well, what are you waiting for? Get down there and get it from him!”

    “Unfortunately, I can’t. He’s already played it.”

”What!? Damm! Well, looks like you’ll have to duel him for it!”

The man could hear a door opening on the other end of the phone. The voice on the other end took a more nervous tone.

”Uh, sir! You didn’t need to come here. Everything’s under control. We’re about to get the avatar shortly.”

The next thing the man heard was a woman’s voice.

    ”The master has another idea.”

Hey guys, Reece here. Well, Forte’s won the tournament and we’re off to Japan!

And now, we finally get to the meat of the story.

    Hmm? What do you mean?[/CLOR]

    Okay, first criticism.

The chapter had two errors, one major, two minor.

Minor: On Overfiend Mephisto's stats, you didn't put its star level. (I'd say it's at least Level 8 myself). Also, Gaust used a card called "Black Hole"; don't you mean "Dark Hole"?

Major: The Trap "Return From The Different Dimension" requires the user to pay half his current Life Points. Oops.

You're also only allowed to have one Morphing Jar in your deck with today's rules, but if Change of Heart is allowed, maybe two Morphing Jars are too.

Anyway, this was interesting. Overfiend Mephisto, huh? A card named after the demon Mephistopholes from the legend of Faust, I believe. (Exactly why the card would be written in Egyptian and have a European name, I don't know...)

I'm going to make an eductaed guess...

The name of this fanfic is "The Six Avatars", so I'm guessing that there are six powerful monster cards with sentience floating around, and that Mephisto here is one of them. I don't think all of them are Fiends, but clearly, when all are together, something will happen.

A question: how old is Forte? I realize he's drinking age, but how old?

Anyway, keep writing, and I'll keep reading.

And I'll keep correcting whenever a mistake is made...

DS: Thanks for the info. I knew there was something else to the Return from a Different Dimension trap, but I couldn't remember what.

Also, I'm kinda bending the duelling rules regarding card restrictions (I hardly pay attention to them so I obviously will make a few mistakes).

As for the other mistakes, sorry about that, I'll edit them now.

As for Mephisto's name, I did get the idea from Faust, but the name doesnt really play much of an importance.

    Not a bad chapter MC,

We actually see a decent opponent (in Forte's eyes of course) this time. No real criticisms to make (as others have already pointed them out) but I kinda didn't like the little "intro" Mephisto did when he first appeared in the duel. Based on his name, I thought he would be a pure Demon-like monsters, but a malignant "spellcaster" but hey, its your fic

I bet something really big will happen in the next chapter. I also got to see how this fic got its name, I wonder who the other five avatars are.

Considering that there are 6 Avatars and 6 different attributes in the game, I think that there is an Avatar of Darkness, Light, Earth, Wind, Water and Fire. And since the Avatar of Darkness is a Fiend, maybe the types of Avatars are related to the attribute? Meaning Avatar of Light will be a Fairy, Wind - Winged Beast, Fire - Pyro, Water - Aqua, Earth - ..rock?

Well, these all are just guesses, but meh. I hope I nailed the attribute bit at least.

    Otherwise, great chapter.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Ok, it seems that a few of you don't like the name "Overfiend Mephisto" for the card, so here's a proposition for you. I'm giving you guys the oppotunity to rename the card. PM me with your idea for a name and I'll pick the best one. In the meantime, he'll sill be called Overfiend Mephisto.
