Default Some advanced Generation (emerald) questions

I am planning on buying emerald soon, and I just needed to know some stuff about the game...

Can you trade in the games back to G/S/C and R/B/Y, cause I have heard that you can't. and the wireless trading, does that work for R/B/Y and G/S/C?

What pokemon from earlier generations are really good stilll? (I have beaten Blue with all 151 gameshark free, and what pokemon on G/S/C are still good. So that I can trade my best pokemon back over.)

Finally: out of the newer generations of pokemon, which ones our the best? (I don't know anything about any of the newer pokemon.)

thanks, sorry for asking noobish questions, but I need to get caught up.

[color=magenta]No, unfortunately in the new GameBoy Advance games (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen) you can't trade to the older GameBoy games. (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal.)

As for Wireless Trading, Ruby and Sapphire can't make use of the Wireless trading, you will have to use a link Cable to trade with those games. Wireless Adapter is only compatible with FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Many Pokémon have been improved upon from the older games, especially with the addition of natures and abilities. Your starter Pokémon will be very useful throughout the game. All 3 are pretty good, Mudkip is my favorite, when it evolves it will also become part Ground-type, which cancels it's Electric weakness. (Although it gives it a double weakness to Grass, which is it's only weakness) In-game, you can get away with using most any kind of Pokémon. You will need to worry about serious training once you get access to the battle frontier, as it is the most challenging event ever in a Pokémon game. For now, just concentrate on using your favorite Pokémon.

You will also want to catch a Zigzagoon early on in the game. It isn't an especially good fighter, but it has the pickup ability, which means that every time you win a battle, either with a wild Pokémon or another trainer, it has a 10% chance of getting an item. You have to make sure that your Zigzagoon isn't holding an item though, or else it can't Pickup anything after a battle. In Emerald, the quality of the items that Zigzagoon and other Pokémon with the Pickup ability can obtain will increase every 10 levels, starting at Level 11, and every ten levels afterwards. Zigzagoon is also nice, because it, and it's evolution, Linoone, can learn many HM moves, which will help you get through the game.

Feel free to browse around the different threads and ask more questions about the games!!

No backwards trading sucks, since I have a zapdos, and mew, with incredible move sets in Blue. Is mew in Emerald, because I read somewhere about mew being available, but you needed to get some Nintendo Convention thing.

I also read that you needed to unlock trading in FR/LG, if so how do you unlock it?

You need to beat the elite 4 and also complete the mini quest starting on One Island. It's a quest which requires you to retrieve two items in order to unlock trading with people 'Outside of Kanto' aka Ruby, Colosseum etc.

Honestly, by the time you can trade between FR/LG and Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the game is pretty much over. Trading just allows you to build a better team for regional tournaments, or the Battle Frontier.

As for getting Mew, Mew can be caught in Emerald, but it requires you to visit a Nintendo-sponsored event where they give away the item called the Old Sea Chart. You use the Old Sea Chart to reach World's Edge Island, and encounter Mew there.

You can also get your Zapdos as well but you have to finish Pokemon XD on the gamecube. But to get some of the other pokemon finish Pokemon Colosseum

...except that it won't be your Zapdos. It'll just be a Zapdos.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but if anyone has a card of the old sea chart to scan in, or eon ticket card and stuff, they could take the card, scan it in, and post the exact picture of the card and everyone could print it out, and everybody could get lugia and mew and stuff.

In emerald do you get rayquaza before the elite four, or groudon/kyogre before the elite four?

I was pretty sure you don't but just wanted to make sure
