Default Texas Polygamy Ranch ( Extreme Christianity )

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/...n4023910.shtml

Now I have to say that this is the worst and utterly most disgusting display of Christianity and Nutjobs I have ever seen in my life. For those that do not know, about two weeks ago a anonymous caller told called a Abuse Hotline saying she was being abused inside of this "Ranch". Why I say "Ranch" is becuase the sucker is built up like a modern day castle. This sparked a CPS ( Child Protective Services ) and Texas Rangers raid on the place.

What they found was that the boys were grown up and taught to be abusive to their wives. When they were old enough, and I do mean old enough such as 20 and 30 and some times 50 year old. They would marry a little girl who had just reached puberty.

Any man that would leave the ranch would have his property ( wives and children ) given to another man.

Anyway I would love to get the opinion of those living outside and inside of the United States on this.

    Sick-os. With a capital S.

There's only so little a chance this could be exaggerated. I mean, 400+ children? A lot of them half-siblings? Sheesh... And of course, there's the "Saint" supporting their opinions. A classic mythical community too, the way they're "cultivating" their children to continue their way of living.
Though the article doesn't say, it was probably a very closed and autonomous community. I doubt the children have been let on the Internet or were allowed to view more than 3 channels on TV...

I regret how this might affect how people look at "honest" communities like the Amish. Although I have to say, I have my doubts still about whether anyone should live in such a sheltered environment during childhood. (Note that I'm not condemning, I can only express my opinion as an unknowing outsider.)
    Thanks Orion, for my reflection...

I just wanna say that these people are not "Christians" they're Mormons. and yes, there is a difference between a christian and a mormon. And apparently, these just aren't mormons, they're HARDCORE mormons.

but anyways, I think its awful. I've always thought mormons were really weird with what they believe (the fact that you can have more than one wife at a time, and they all live together in the same house) and other stuff like that.

Actually, I am confused. That link has a video, and they say they are fundlemental mormons, but in the story they are from the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints...which are Jehovah Witnesses, not Mormons.

well whatever, the only thing that matters is that the kids got out of there

This is well madness, but this isn't mormonism this is just people using religion as a front to engage in what are morally wrong and possibly illegal activities. You'd be surprise at how many religions there are in this world, many of which are not mormon related whatsoever but where sexual abuse, physical abuse etc. are allowed. Its disgusting but its life. I realise these people were part of the mormon church, but one does not need to mormon as churches that do not fellow mormonism also engage in such activities.

What I think is a larger issue and something that may be going on in the United States etc is that here in New Zealand, religions can enjoy many tax advantages and can theoretically break laws such as everyone gets a fair shot at a job etc. This is why religion can be so wrong. Its also why I am always questioning any religion outside the main ones, because they're often cover-ups. But I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but its not like America exactly stops half of this crap.

Religion can often be abused, and while I' agnostic and was once very athiest, I have come to the conclusion that I'm ok with religion. But religion in itself can be such a dangerous tool that can abuse, abuse and abuse some more.

I agree with Sam and Firepokemon. Yes, they may call themselves christian but that doesnt mean they behave in a truely christian manner. I wouldnt even call them extreme christianity considering that the things they preach arent even close to what real christianity is. Things like this really offend me because it gives christianity such a bad name when people do horrible things in the name of God. -.-()
