    Default Video Problems

Okay, so I got a new computer recently. Good times. For whatever reason, though, I can't play videos on a number of different websites (Youtube's the big one, although there have been numerous others).

On some sites, the video plays for two seconds and then inexplicably pauses; I can jump to another point in the movie if I want, where it will continue. For two seconds. That makes for a very long movie. Certain other videos, though, run fine, aside from a total lack of sound. Also not good.

Some technical discussion threads I've visited say that the new version of Adobe Flash Player is the problem. They recommend downgrading to a previous version or just replacing one of the plugins with an old one. Sounds easy enough, except that this is a new computer. I don't have a previous version of anything. That leaves me at a bit of a loss.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Some technical specs. Not entirely sure what other information would be relevant, so just ask.

    HP Pavilion dv9700t
    OS: Windows Vista (64-bit)
Browsers: Mozilla Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 7 (64-bit mode)

It does sound like a Flash problem. Try downloading the latest version and uninstalling any versions that you currently do have and see if that fixes the problem.

Also, since it's a new computer, it might be worth making sure all your drivers (motherboard, video card, sound card (if you have one) are up to date. I doubt this is actually the problem, but it always helps.

Weird... it works now. (I say it's weird because I downloaded the exact version I already had: 9.0.124.0.)

This doesn't necessarily mean it's fixed, unfortunately; I've seen a lot of comments that suggest that a reinstall makes videos work temporarily, but then the old problems resurface. I'll post here again if that happens, but hopefully that won't be the case.

At any rate, it seems to be working now. Thanks for your help, Heald!

As I expected, the problems have returned. >_< Now, some videos are stopping after 3-5 seconds, and NONE of them play sound (yes, I checked the volume controls on all of them).

I'm not about to reinstall Adobe Flash Player every few days; that'd be way too much of a hassle, frankly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to actually fix this?

EDIT: *sighs* Okay, I just downloaded a developers' version of Adobe Flash Player 10, and stuff is working now... hopefully this is actually a permanent fix rather than a "Oh, this will work for the rest of the day and then die so you'll have to install a new one" fix.
