Preview: Alexander's Mission

A third preview from me in a short space of time? Yea, I'm throwing ideas around, seeing which ones work. The contest fic already has a few chapters written.





Alexander's Mission

Alexander, known casually as Al, was part of a group known as The Adepts United. In a world of supernatural powers, where man can weild the elements like weapons, a band of warriors came together to prevent evil from spreading through the land.

Five years ago, the AU were scattered across a mythical land known as Evayard, ruled by Queen Teresa. A plot was underway to ressurect evil tyrant Dimitri from the dead, and the Adepts were busy finding their way towards thwarting the diabolical scheme.

Now, however, Alexander lives alone, in Saffron City, and many of the Adepts are not as united as they seemed. One night, Alexander is visited by an old friend, a Water Adept named Salo Kirke. She is suffering delusions, and obscure visions, and has seen the death of an AU member at the hands of another.

Driven to understand this twisting betrayal, Alexander and Salo seek to reunite the adepts they once allied with, searching the land for the scattered members who, after the Final Battle, fled from one another to find peace.

This is Alexander's Mission.

Hey, sounds great!

It only took reading a couple of those sentences to re-ignite my passion for Monica, Alexander and all the rest (I know Monica's not a focus anymore, but I'm sooooo curious to work out which of the AU are still about, and which will play a central role!)

Looking forward to this story - my own non-pokemon-related story simmering in the back of my head for years is of a similar elemental-magical vein as this, so I'm hoping you kick-start my writing as well.

As always, you've got a loyal reader on board before it even begins. I wonder will Mona appear? I never did get to find out about her when I took a....erm.......sabbatical from TPM.

I have plans for Damien and Zuuki to both appear. As for Mona, watch this space. I haven't quite decided. Gauld and Silva, from Vendetta, will not be appearing however. There's an amalgamation of characters from the last three fics - we find everyone in completely different surroundings, and finding out what transpired since Vendetta will be a big part of the storytelling.

I never properly followed Monica's Army or any of its sequels, just skimmed them in the course of modding duties and stuff, so I don't know how clear some aspects of this fic would be to me, but it sounds like an interesting fantasy-adventure. Assuming I had time, I'd like to read the first chapter at least and see what it's like.

If it comes down to a one-or-the-other situation, though, I'd like to see Show Off go ahead first.

I think your first chapter should definitely be a good overview of the characters, and a run-down of what's happened so far. It'll be a good refresher for people that read the Monica trilogy, but also help out with new readers (which will be the majority). After all, you will want a group of readers, so you need to draw in your target audience.

I think a brief overview would give new readers a chance to immerse themselves in what's going on, and give them an incentive to read. Hopefully, by the time Al's Mission gets going, they'll go back to the archives and read the prequels.

I'm intending to provide an overview on the first three fics as a sort of prequel to the first chapter. It should allow for new readers to follow the fic as easily as old readers. The real suspense lies in what has occured during the five years that nobody has witnessed.
