    MARVEL
    SINGULARITY

    It was known as “the Event.” Cataloged by the military as “34c-236 Alpha Case Designate: MELTDOWN”.

    On January 12th, 2001, in Miami Florida, a force exploded with the destructive power of a thermo-nuclear bomb. Miami was leveled and the surrounding area was flattened. Hundreds upon thousands of people died in the blast and much of the lower coast of Florida was now barren real-estate being taken by the sea.

    The country was in panic. Who could have leveled the lower part of Florida so effectively. The FBI, CIA, and every Homeland security institution was searching for answers. What they found, wasn't pretty. Using surveillance satellites, the cause of the explosion wasn't a regular bomb. It was a living bomb. Satellite images showed that a young man was the source of the explosion.

    Anti-Mutant, or rather, Anti-superpower, sentiment skyrocketed. Regular people, the majority, were afraid, and scared. So was the government. Up till this point, many Mutants or so-called Super Heroes had been vigilantes working to help the common man. But, the “Event” changed all that.

    Some super powered beings were killed, run out of town, or went underground. The National Guard was called in on numerous accounts to try and quell the fighting, but usually making things more difficult, and bloody. The government called for a strict registration on any individual with any kind of natural, scientific, or supernatural enhancement or power so that they could be monitored.

    Not everyone agreed with this.

    Tensions rose, until in 2003, a number of powered beings charged in and took out Washington D.C., claiming it theirs and effectively issuing a war against the United States of America. The military was mobilized. With the military easily held off, the President asked for the help to end the situation.

    The results, shocked everyone.

    The assailants were more organized than the saviors, acting as effective guerrillas and the “heroes” nothing more than show-boaters. The heroes were beaten, many killed, and the survivors went into hiding.

    Victorious, the assailants, took more territory, forcing the U.S. Government to relocate to Norad. States east of the Rockies and below the 40th Latitude were divided into territories, controlled by various hierarchies. What remains is the rest of the United States is controlled by the federal government.

    However things are different. The government itself is taking an interest in “protecting” its citizens and taking precautions to avoid a repeat of the “Event.” As a precaution, a school was established where Mutants and other “gifted” children and adolescents go. They not only go for an education, but also to harness their power so that they do not lose control.

    This school, is stationed in the Washington countryside. It is the first one built and funded by the government, and eats up a considerable amount of the budget. The most important reason this school is allowed to exist, is because of the headmistress herself.

    So now, over 8 years after the “Event” the school is still getting it's footing. The walls have been cleared for a new class of students, and the senior students still have much to learn. They are taught not only education, but also combat and control. There are plans for these students, different factions in the United States Government and their views how to deal with the “threat” super powered beings pose to national security.

    The students are monitored, tutored, and the school is prone to government inspection by the higher-ups. But what the students must remember, is who they are, and what they can accomplish.

    There is more to the world, than just a Singularity.

    MARVEL
    SINGULARITY

    Issue One: Enrollment

    -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

    The doctors walked down the long hallway. The doors they passed each opened to a padded cell with restrained inmates. Their moans, shouts, and other noises sifted into the corridor like whispers on the wind.

    This wing of the asylum was restricted for the most extreme cases of mental disturbia. With the inmates dressed in straight jackets and placed inside padded walls. It was disheartening for the doctors that worked here to pass through this wing on their rounds. The inmates refused any medicine, sometimes even food in the fits of their imbalance.

    Walking up to one door in the middle of the hallway, one of the doctors looked in on the padded cell of Dwane Rigash.

    The cell was quiet, covered in a worn collection of padding. It had been repaired since the last inmate had managed to escape, somehow he had transformed into a nine headed hydra made of fire and damaged much of the complex before being subdued and sent elsewhere. Scorch marks were still on the padding.

    In the corner is where Rigash sat. His body curled over with his knees close to his chest. The straight jacket nearly gone in his curled state. Light grey pants stopped at his ankles, and showed his bare feet, the undersides darkened from walking barefoot. Dirty blonde hair was laying down on his forehead, with a few wild strands going in random directions. His hair was long, and hadn't been cut in several years. Dwane wasn't moving.

    “Any progress?”

    “None. Condition is the same. Sits there, curled up, staring through his hair. Hasn't said a word in the last seven years.”

    “A shame,” the other doctor replied. “We were so close to making a breakthrough too.”

    After jotting down some notes on a clip board,the two doctors continue to walk down the hallway, looking in on the patients and leaving Rigash.

    Rigash sat there, motionless, unable to move. There was a smile on his face as he seemed to stare at nothingness. His eyes watching something that the doctors couldn't see, nor, even imagine. He watched with an entertained glee as a small light sparkled behind his eyes.

    * * *

    “What's their progress?” A woman stood, watching computer screens that only illuminated part of her. She was wearing a dark business suit, her thumb and forefinger around her chin. Thoughtful, she watched with anticipation. Years of planning and preparation, months of tiring work and effort were being combined into this one instant.

    “Red Team is at 14%. Blue Team is having trouble at 9%. Yellow Team is at 19%.” A young woman sat at the controls, her fingers rapidly taping away, faster than a human eye could track. “Injuries are at a minimum. Scans indicate distress within Yellow Team.”

    “No readings yet on mental imbalance and effects on powers.” At another computer screen sat a large man, hunching over. Claws clicked on the touchscreen as holographic screens showed views of the different teams and their general situations.

    Another woman sat watching the monitors, her mind working over the situation. “Blue Team is pinned down by heavy fire in Section 2. Red team has infiltrated Section 3. Yellow is almost through Section 4.”

    “I hope, for your sake Miss Tourmaline,” said another individual, standing farther from the screens and overseeing the operation. “That your students survive this. If they don't it will cost your reputation.”

    Tina Tourmaline didn't budge from her stance, watching the screens and her students from the past semester. Some were brand new to the Academy this year, uncertain, confused, and dangerous. This was a challenge for them. A challenge they had to win, for the sake of their own future.

    Red Team

    A large reptilian fist slammed into a cannon, smashing the machinery and causing it to spark. Krox pulled his fist back from the mangled wreckage, holding the wiring in his hands. “Three down,” the reptile commented.

    “More incoming!” Shadow Caller announced as pannels in the sides of the walls opened and laser cannons on the end of metal tentacles slithered out and aimed at the group.

    “Cover your ears!” Scream shouted as he turned up the volume on his iPod, sending intense sound waves towards the laser cannons. Glass shattered and some of the cannons short circuited, but not nearly enough as they started firing at them. Everyone ducked behind some obstacles placed in their path. “Okay, I'm spent!” he shouted over the sound of laser fire and scorch marks.

    “Daylight,” Shadow yelled at the senior member. “You charged up?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Blind em!”

    “Got it!” she replied as everyone covered their eyes. Daylight charged a baseball sized sphere in her hand before she stood and tossed it at the cannons. A bright flash of light illuminated the area, frying some of the circuits that had been damaged by Scream's sound attack. This didn't disable them however, it just made them fire randomly.

    “Great move light-bright,” Scream muttered.

    “I got the rest,” Shadow Caller said as she gained a darkened aura.

    One of the cannons froze in place, still firing. It turned and rotated, and fired at each of the remaining cannons before it was ripped off of the tentacle. As the team advanced, Krox smashed it with his foot.

    * * *

    Blue Team

    Laser fire scorched the area above Demon's head as the Saurian quickly ducked behind the corner where he and his team were pinned down. Bolts of energy hit the wall where his head had been as well as the wall at the end of their hall.

    “Come ooooon,” Black Out whined. “Let's goooo. This is boring!”

    Demon snarled under his breath. He was fighting too much with his instincts, and being in charge of Pluto, Black Out, and Thalass wasn't helping matters. “I don't know what to do...” he muttered.

    “Oh for crying out loud,” Pluto said, throwing his hands up. “The leader doesn't know what to do. Great. We're toast.” Of course Pluto's attitude wasn't helping things either.

    Demon thought for a second before he turned towards Thalass. “I relinquish my command, you're in charge Thal.”

    The girl looked at the Saurian for a tense moment as her mind worked around the proposed solution. “What?! Why me?”

    “You really want to follow Mr. Hyper or the planet with the attitude?”

    “Hey!” Pluto shouted, his blood boiling. “I don't need this crap from an over-grown lizard!”

    “Oh shut it!” Demon replied, roaring.

    “Guys... are we done yet?” Black Out asked.

    Thalass thought for a minute, as the robots shooting the lasers were walking closer with every second. “Shadow,” she said quietly, getting the other's attention.

    The robots walking down the hallway were five strong, each shooting in alternating waves of laser fire. Darkness started to slither around the corner where their enemy was hiding and moved towards them. They continued to fire, their fire disappearing as soon as it entered the darkness. Confused, their programing had never calculated for this as they stopped. The darkness continued to gather towards them until a raging Saurian, black as night burst out, its clawed hand ripping through the torso of one before slamming the decimated robot into its partner.

    Three other robots past Demon raised their arms and locked onto the Saurian with their cannons. But, their circuitry started to malfunction as all three were condensed by a massively increased gravity into a clump of ragged metal and sparks.

    Pluto walked out of the darkness as it started to recede back towards Black Out, who giggled with pride, and Thalass walked behind, silent as her mind raced with options.

    “Do I always have to save your scaly ass?” Pluto smirked as he walked by. Demon snorted.

    “We have to continue,” Thalass reminded, and the team moved on.

    * * *

    Yellow Team

    “Guys,” Tracer gasped as he tried to keep up. “Slow down!”

    The leader, Arc, turned back to the gasping youth. “Keep up small-fry!”

    “Easy for you to say, Bigfoot!” Tracer shouted back, winded.

    The group was on edge, for reasons no one was fully aware of. Arc thought that it was his commanding of a group of mostly new students who were unsure of themselves. Tracer thought it was his limited physical abilities. Coldsnap was just as un-nerved. Only Ruffles knew why, and she was trying her hardest to maintain a cheery attitude without the self-conscious fear and uncertainty creep in.

    It wasn't working, and the entire team was on edge.

    They reached a door labeled 'Section 4' and Arc opened it. The door reviled a large room, with four cubes resting there. At the other end was another door with the words 'Section 5.” Walking in, the team felt their unease growing.

    “No traps, no laser fire, no robots, no guards?” Tracer commented. “They've got to be hiding something.”

    “Like a trap door,” Coldsnap replied.

    “Yeah, or a crushing wall, or..”

    “Keep talking and the walls will get us. They're probably listening to us so don't give them any ideas.” Arc rolled his shoulders and kept walking until the team was about in the middle of the room, between all four boxes resting on the ground.

    A slight mechanical whir and a long mechanical vine slithered out, before wrapping around Ruffles and lifting her up. Her fear spread to the others as she was lifted up and restrained.

    “Damnit!” Arc shouted as he drew his gun, but not before another vine from another boxe wrapped around his leg and lifted him up like a snare trap.

    Coldsnap spun around, starting to freeze the metal around Ruffle's waist so that it would break and let her go. Tracer ducked behind the other box, trying to think of the situation, and look for the vine's control box through his data pad.

    Ruffle's emotions were seeping into her team mates. Fear and shock were starting to eat their way to the forefront of their minds. This panic attack made Coldsnap careless as a fine wrapped around one arm, and then the other, stopping him from directing his blasts. Tracer was still hidden. Trying to find the control box for the vines.

    “Any time now Tracer!” Arc shouted as he shot two bullets into the fine, only to ricochet off.

    “Working on it,” the youngster shouted back, panic in his voice. He started scanning the system, looking for a way to tap into the boxes, but his signal wasn't getting through. While not being able to hack the entire system, he did find the control box. It was in the room itself, now he had to find it. Checking the schematic, he figured out which boxes were which on the schematic and where the box was. It was closer to the door and through the waving arms of mechanical vines. “Crap.”

    Tracer scrambled up and broke into a dead sprint, although for anyone watching it wasn't that fast, but still faster than the youngster was able to run on a good day. His lungs pumped as he made it halfway to the box, but was tripped as a vine wrapped around his legs and he hit the ground.

    “The box... is over there..WHOA” he yelled as the vine pulled him back and lifted him in the air.

Everyone has been split into teams chosen by the Headmistress each with a Leader indicated with a (*) in the Team Line up. At the end of this Session (or Issue) we'll start with the beginning of the Semester, where everyone meets each other for the first time and then play to the end of the Semester and beyond. Everyone has their “costumes” on for this examination.

    Team Line-up:

    Red Team:

    Gavin
    Shadow Caller (*)
    Kaleo
    Daylight

    Blue Team:

    Demon (originally picked, relinquished command to Thalass)
    Pluto
    Black Out
    Thalass (*)

    Yellow Team:

    Tracer
    Ruffles
    Arc (*)
    Coldsnap

    So. Everyone post a bit with your character in this Danger Room Simulation. Use traps, puzzles, you and your team-mates abilities, and use your imagination. This test is to see how well you can work in a unit as well as use each other for backup. Once we have a good pace going, I'll let you know when the Issue Ends and the Next Issue (with the flash-backs) begins.

    Have a blast guys.

    Kalan (Coldsnap)

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

    This was not good, Kalan aka Coldsnap knew he had to do something otherwise his team mates and himself were going to be in a lot of trouble. He was trying to keep a straight mind but Ruffle's emotions were clouding his mind, in addition to this his hands were tied up so he really couldn't do much, but he knew someone who could. That person was Tracer but unfortunately, he was anchored to the ground by a mechanical vine.

    "Hey" shouted Kalan "Catch this" with that he managed to make a small frozen icicle which fell to the ground right in front of Tracer.

    "What do I use that for?" he questioned

    "Use it to cut the vine" Kalan responded. A quick light bulb went of in Tracer's head and he picked up the frozen weapon and began slashing away at the mechanical vine. The icicle cut through the vine severing the end chaining him to the ground while the other end began flopping around with sparks in its wires firing of sparks. Getting back to his feet Tracer moved over to the control box and opened it up and began fiddling around with the mechanics inside. Not long after he started his tinkering a small amount of smoke rose from the box and the mechanical vines holding the rest of the team in place went limp and released the team.

    "Ouch" yelled Arc as he rubbed his head from the 3 foot drop "I hope there isn't anymore vines"

    "Me too" sigh Ruffles as she released a cool refreshing sense of calm.

    "Well lets head on to the next room" said Arc as he montioned towards a small door that had opened itself on the far wall. As the yellow team walked through the new door all the could see was pitch black.

    "Well this seems a bit strange" Kalan whispered as they moved around the room a bit.

    "Wonder what they could have install for us in here?" asked Tracer

    "Maybe its like a giant monster or something" joked Ruffles as she laughed. But with that omnious foreshadowing of a prediction there was a low grumble which resonated through out the room and suddenly the lights flickered on. Standing in front of yellow team was a very large spider like monster with bright red eyes and a few bits of armour decorating its body.

    "Damnit, I hate when other people are right" sighed Arc

    "So whats the plan then guys?" asked Kalan

    Oh this is the Final Exam? So I can use full extent of abilities now? Sweet!

    Derek looked over at the clumping masses of circuitry and instinctively saw a ball. Running over to it, away from the others, as Demon and Pluto both went at it, he carried it over and handed it to Pluto oddly enough. Thalass stared at him, wondering if there was something seriously wrong with this childish partner of theirs.

    "Don;t you want it? It would be a cool kind of toy! Like you could make it into a even tinier ball, and you could throw it..and stuff like that n_n! !"

    "Umby...why are you handing me a metallic mass of those robots I just decimated." Pluto looked greatly annoyed, but Derek still kept a smile on his face.

    "I decimated some, you just crinkled them!" Demon snorted as he ran ahead. Pluto coarsely scowled and smacked the ball away as he gave chase, Thalass left with Derek.

    "I'm not having fun anymore....are you, Tallahassee!? You need something to play with right now, since I know you like to make splashy things!"

    "..Thalass, and we have to--"

    "Hey Leader! We might need your GUIDANCE right now!" Demon snorted as lazers shot over his head. He backed away as Pluto waved his hands vertically, and a few crushing sounds were heard. Thalass left Derek there holding the metallic ball, and tried to offer support the best way she could.

    ---

    The Door to Sector Three was heavily guarded, with both andriod like structures, of both aerial and ground troops-as well as mines that were on the walls. Demon figured this out when he was struck by both a mine planted on a wall and on the ground at the same time. Pluto laughed at his carelessness, before a lazer nearly grazed his side. In retaliation Pluto raised his arms, forcing the two shooters to rise up at an accelerated speed, and crush themselves upon the ceiling.

    Thalass reached the bend, and turned to see Demon and Pluto trying to press on. However, she had the foresight to turn around and note the turrets rising up and charging up from behind. Turning back the way she came, Derek was just standing there, playing with the ball?

    Pluto noticed it as well, and snapped. "..UMBY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Infuriated, Pluto held his hand out, before closing it. He then yanked his hand backwards. This led to Derek feeling his body lighten, and suddenly he was whisked forward. You couldn't ask for a larger smile to come across a delighted child's face, as he whizzed through the corridor.

    "YAY! I love it when you do this Pluto! Let me slam into the wall though!! Pleeease!"

    Pluto obliged, not knowing what Derek was up to. But if it would shut the idiot up....Demon turned back and saw his partner fling Derk right in the midst of the robots that were lying in the rubbish pile he was creating. Derek cheered, and seemed to splatter upon contact! Black dots oozed along the pile and Demon backed up. He had never saw Derek do that before.

    "Did you just do something to MAKE US LOSE A TEAM MATE!"

    "I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE IDIOT CAN DO, HE NEVER REALLY DID MUCH MORE THAN MAKE SHIELDS!" Pluto fired back, and hunkered down behind the wall.

    Thalass smiled and stretched her hands out. "No. He's giving me something to play with-as he would put it. Thanks Umby." The black liquid soon reconfigured and Derek's voice could be heard as they turned into a weapon of Thalass's choice.

    "YAY SUPER HAPPY FUN TIME! Don't worry, when I break I'll come back to normal! I want my Panda cake when we get out of here! With frosting and ice cream and gummi bears n_n!!!!"

    Student
    Name: She wont tell what her real name is so she cant be found by her mother.
    Codename: Daylight
    Age: 18
    Sex: Female
    Year: Senior
    Description: 5'8", 130lbs, she has reddish brown hair with gold highlights that comes down to her shoulders, with a slight wave. Leaf green eyes. Has a golden tan color to her skin, showing that she spends a lot of time in the sun.
    Personality: Shes pretty shy and tends to shy away from people upon first meeting them. She opens up slowly like the bud of a newborn leaf, but as she grows accustomed to new people she opens up and reveals the real her, a sweet cheerful girl that looks for the good in life. While she can be withdrawn and seemingly unfriendly to strangers, she gives fully to those who've earned her trust and cant stand to see someone in trouble or being bullied. Has a strong sense of justice and despite her shy-ish nature is not timid. She will not back down to defend a cause that is right. She would give up everything for a friends wellbeing.
    Power Type: Experiment
    Powers: Her powers are sun/light based, she gains strength from such light and warmth much like a plant and harnesses it, making her very versatle with any form of heat (like causing a pot of water to vaporise in moments at her best), light ( like bright blinding flashes, or something as simple as illuminating a dark cave to see), and refractions of light (minor invisibility, and weak shields as examples) Like a hot air balloon she can heat up her particles and become lighter than air, but only when she is exposed to a lot of constant light for this takes a lot of energy.
    Weapon(s): ????
    Drawbacks: Like a solar powered battery, Daylight can only hold so much without exploding, which means in the daytime or when shes exposed to a lot of light she has to periodically use some of the energy in some way. If she doesnt, it will build up within her and eventually kill her. Likewise in low light conditions, she has a limited supply of energy, and when it is gone she will pass out with no chance of waking her unless she is placed under direct light. It needs to be kept balanced or she is screwed lol
    Relationships: Open
    History: A long time ago, when she was only 9 she ran away from home. Her mother had taken her away from her dad at a young age, and her stepfather was abusive, so one day she couldnt take anymore and left. Finding herself alone with no money and no where to go, she answered an ad that promised to give 1000 dollars to those who would participate in a study. Being young and desperate she went to the lab, where they made good on their promise, but for a price. The lab was studying the photosensitive cells in plants and in solar cells, and they believed that they could alter the human makeup to make use of the same elements. Their dream was to cure obesity, depression and laziness by making it possible for humans to recieve the energy they needed. It would have benefits for everyone. after all, you can get so much more done if you didnt need to sleep or eat. Humans spend half their lives asleep, and to these scientists, that was too much wasted time. It should have been a brilliant idea, but nature is a vengeful mistress that doesnt like to be messed with. Many of the subjects died, and Daylight herself went into a coma for many years. The doctors thought she would never awake but years later she did, and found herself in an unfamiliar world. The company, Photogenetics, had long been shut down, and her mother had never gone looking for her, so to this world she was an unknown. Her real name she kept locked away in her own head, and upon discovering the surge of energy that came from her first dawn upon waking she named herself Daylight. The name also honors her dad, and one of the last things he said to her before they were separated: "Daylight comes to chase away the dark"
    Other: An epic song for your enjoyment!

    ~~Daylight~~
    Even in the Daylight, shine on.

    Every day was another battle.

    Some battles didnt take place on the physical plane though. No, it wasnt all in the Danger Room, fighting machines and strange beasts to prove to yourself and to your instructors that you had mastery of your powers. It wasnt even all in the day to day battles against prejudice that many of us faced from those society deemed to be "normal". Some battles occured from deep within, and these were the hardest to win.

    I knew I wasnt normal, if I was I wouldnt be attending this school. But it went deeper than the obvious, for even among my fellow students I didnt feel quite normal. They all had childhoods. They had memories of growing up, whether they were good or bad. And I envied them for it.
    I went to sleep one day as a nine year old, and next I knew I was waking up at age 16 and the whole world was different. I was different. The world looked so much smaller, and I struggled to deal with the changes that had occured in me which I had not been aware of. I had become a woman in my sleep, but I lacked the experience of living that a 16 year old should have. I found out later that the experiment I had undergone had put me in a coma, and that somehow during the time when I was dead to the world, the Mutant school had taken over responsibility for my sleeping body, for when I awoke, it was the Headmistriss who I saw first.
    I worked hard these past two years to try and catch up what I had missed out during my long sleep. But most of my training centered on controlling my powers, catching up on history, and the studies that other kids my age had learned over 10 years. There wasnt time to try out hobbies, or go on dates, or have a first kiss like other kids might. And while I knew that I could never reclaim the time I had lost, that didnt stop the familiar inward battle from starting, my wistfullness for what I could never have warring with the sure knowledge that some things were lost to me for good.
    "Hey, Daylight..."
    Shadow Callers voice broke me out of my musings, as the younger girl patted me on the shoulder. "Your batteries running out or something?" Jumping slightly at hearing this and the realisation that now was not the time to let my wits escape me, I shook my head. "No..." I spoke quietly, taking a deep breath. "I was...just thinking."

    "No time for that..." Krox rumbled, and Scream nodded in agreement. "Weve got to keep moving, who knows how far the other teams have gotten by now."

    I nodded, as my team and I headed towards the next room and the next challenge. Some battles came from within, and were the hardest to beat, but sometimes these battles had to come second. After all, you cant win a battle against yourself if your dead.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    When in doubt, character development time! Im not sure if the next room is the same Section Four the Yellow Team just left, and if so, will Red Team see the wreckage that the Yellow left behind or will there be stuff for us to fight? Im a bit confused as to how its going to work ^-^()
    Name: Dana Serenity Williams
    CodenamehadowCaller
    Age:15
    Sex:Female
    Year: Junior
    Descriptiontanding at about five foot even, Dana is rather on the short end of things, Her hair, the color of golden wheat, goes to her shoulders and frames a fairly good looking face with green eyes. She can normally be found wearing jeans and a T-shirt. In terms of figure, she is in fact shapely, in spite of her height. Her 'Costume" is basically little more than a mask to pull over her head.
    Personality:Overall, Dana's pretty easygoing, nice, and carefree amongst her fellow students. However, in the world outside, she's almost always on edge, due to having had some... less than pleasant experiences.
    Power Type: Mutant, taps into a supernatural force though.
    Powers: Her mutant power enables her to tap into and draw forth energy from the Darkforce Dimension, which she can use as blasts and a substitute for Telekinesis.
    Weapon(s): Her powers.
    Drawbacks: Unfortunately for her, the energy of the Darkforce Dimension seems to have a mind of its own at times, and can behave peculiarly, either doing some random effect she didn't intend, or outright lashing out at non-targeted people. Additionally, it's only happened once, but the power can seize control of her.
    Relationships:none, yet
    History: For most of her life, Dana had known things to be average, boring, and generally hum drum, she went to school, came home, went to camps, the usual. An only child, she did well enough in school that her parents never had to complain. Then came the fateful day when her powers manifested two years ago. At a summer camp, she had been having the worst day of her life, everything kept going wrong, she rolled out of bed, was last to the showers, the works, and then the camp's bullies decided to target her. That was when her powers kicked in, and the Darkforce subsumed her personality. She awoke a day later, surrounded by men with guns.
    After eventually arriving at the school, things have settled down for her, even if the teachers keep an eye on her just in case.
    Themes: Normal:Soul Stranger
    When Possessed: Black History
    Dana whipped a hand forward, guiding the Darkforce to smash through the reinforced door ahead of them. Instead of a smooth plane of force, like she'd intended, it instead formed a wickedly spiked and barbed ball, and hit with more force to boot, causing the door to burst inward with a horrible shriek of ripping metal. The room within was dark, indistinct, filled with shadows, the only light source apparently being the current hallway. She nodded towards the others, issuing orders.
    "Okay, Daylight, give us enough light that we can see a bit, but don't strain yourself, if you need to conserve, just tell us. Crox, be ready to smack anything that gets near us. Scream, you keep ready to disorient or otherwise soundblast." She stated, thinking to herself Never imagined I'd be a leader.
    Once in the shadows, she kept the dark energy ready for anything that came at them. It was eerily quiet, before Krox made a motion signalling that we weren't alone.
    Just after that, something metal came flying out of the darkness, glinting with Daylight's light. Dana quickly threw up a field to block it, recognizing it as a throwing star when it clattered to the ground.
    "Ninja?" Dana wondered aloud, surprised that the teachers would throw those at them.
    "Allright, you know the drill everyone, locate the exit, and hold 'em off." She stated. Hopefully, she could hold things together long enough for them to pull this off.
    Name: Lawrence Fisher
    Codename: Pluto
    Age: 13
    Sex:Male
    Year: Greenhorn
    Description: He's a short, slightly chubby angry American who usually has a frown on his face. He has messy reddish brown hair and although he is tubby, his arms and legs are quite muscular (for a 13-year old boy at least). He usually wears a white tank-top with a Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned on top and cargo shorts with sports socks and sneakers.
    Personality: Angry, spoilt and generally abrasive, he doesn't make friends easily and usually likes to get his own way, liking to bully people he is stronger than and jealous of people he is weaker than. He doesn't see anyone as a rival, more of an annoyance. As such he has quite a large ego, however, it is a fragile ego, and he is known for throwing one hell of a tantrum. Secretly, he does wish he could make friends, however, his ego refuses to allow him to be vulnerable and open up to other people.
    However, he loves video games and playing video games with other people is possibly one of the only times he'll be openly friendly with other people.
    Power Type: Mutant
    Powers: He can change the gravitational pull or push, sometimes relative to Earth, of his own body, a part of his own body or any area or object/body that is nearby. He has to have eye-contact in order to use this on a particular object, but can use it on a general area, using either himself or a nearby point as an epicentre. This means he can either crush or smash something by increasing the Earth's gravity around them by many times, he can pull object to him or he can even float by negatively changing his gravity, or pulling his body towards another object.
    Weapon(s): None.
    Drawbacks: He hasn't got perfect control and as such cannot do anything delicate, plus he needs to concentrate hard to use his powers for more specific tasks. His anger is also an issue that can either overamplify his powers or he will sometimes lose control and crush or float everything around him. Extended use of his powers exhaust him too.
    Relationships: Has parents, although they're the ones who sent him to this school because they were sick of his destructive tantrums.
    History: Lawrence was never a popular kid and didn't have too many friends. The manifestation of his powers didn't help much as he often caused damage every time he was angry or didn't get his own way, and although anger management seemed to help, he was still very angry, so his parents sent him to the school after an offer to help him control his powers, although Lawrence didn't want to go, although he was inside sick of being hated at his home.
    Theme: Naruto OST 3 - A Crisis After Another
    Left 4 Dead - Tank Theme (Metalized)
    Other: He has private sessions with Chance in order to control his anger. These tend to have varying success.
    ---
    This wasn't exactly his comfort zone: trapped in some battle simulation with a dinosaur, water-girl, and insane shadow man. He would rather be playing video games than this nonsense, although he was somehow coerced into this by the headteacher. He sighed as Thalass and Umbrella finished off their task and they approached a new door.
    Pluto wasn't exactly comfortable in his 'costume', and hated any opportunity to wear it. We preferred baggy, loose-fitting clothes with some style to them, not this monochrome jumpsuit. At least they had taken on board his suggestions to keep it short-sleeved and short-legged, and the matching dark trainers were pretty comfy. He sighed as they went through the door to Section 4. This one wasn't the hectic battleground like the previous rooms and they carefully walked through. Well, carefully until Umbrella spoke up.
    "This is booooooooring! We need action! Action! Fun! Action! Fun!"
    Pluto frowned; despite being the youngest member, he was beginning to think he was the most mature, especially compared to this idiot. As Umbrella bounced around the room, a robotic vine appeared from one of the boxes in the room and darted towards the unwitting Umbra. It wrapped itself around him and seemingly crushed him, he becoming a blob of black goo and slithering out of the binds. More mechanical vines appeared, one wrapping itself around Demon's arm. He grinned and with a loud roar, he ripped it from its connections, easily stronger than it. Thalass had been bound by another vine but Demon quickly pounced on it, ripping it in half. Pluto noticed a final vine darting towards him and using his power, slammed it against the ground, unable to move. He sighed.
    "That was a bit easy," he said and proceeded to rip the vine from its box. They heard a whooping and hooting, and turned around to see Umbrella riding the vine like a rodeo bull.
    "Well, at least someone's having fun," Pluto grumbled. He then turned his attention to the door on the other side of the room and began walking towards it. Thalass spoke up.
    "Pluto! We go as a team! I'm leader now, remember?"
    Pluto snorted.
    "This has taken far too much time already. Get shadow-prancer and follow me already. As for you Dino,"
    "Demon," he growled. Pluto didn't really care.
    "Whatever, you coming? I'm sure there's more toys to smash in here."
    And with that he put his palm forward and used a gravitational blast to blow the door away.
    Default Re: ~*~Marvel: Singularity~*~ (STARTS! LSU's Accepted)
    Name: Nathanial Grey
    Codename: The Arc (accepts just “Arc” but isn’t keen)
    Age: 19
    Sex: Male
    Year: Senior (Not a sodding clue how this school year system works - let me know if this isn’t right for his age, neh?)
    Description: Short blonde hair and the beginnings of stubble which he is very proud of, Nathanial is around 6’ tall, with piercing blue eyes and a generally ragged appearance. He prefers to wear a scruffy white shirt, old blue tie and torn-up bleached jeans with holes about the knees and whatnot. Over all this, he wears a beige trenchcoat that drops to his calves. He’s almost never seen without the coat, even inside. Slung diagonally from the top of his right hip to the bottom of his left is a faded brown belt collection, from which his gun holster hangs, and quite a few shells for the revolver. The leather on the belt is supple, even though it’s very worn, and doesn’t hamper his movements in any way. He also keeps some bullets in the voluminous pockets of his trenchcoat, along with a motley assortment of other crap.
    His hair is exceptionally messy, and almost constantly looks rumpled, although whether this is natural or contrived he’d never tell. Nathanial can almost never be seen without a cigarette in his mouth. Obviously, there’s no smoking in the school, but every opportunity he gets he can be found outside in the grounds, fag in mouth, puffing away like a chimney. He would probably like to not be so addicted, but chain-smoking is a hard habit to kick. Plus he secretly thinks it makes him look more badass.
    He favours large, clompy boots (like combat boots, I guess) in brown leather, and in his figure, he’s pretty much a skinny bugger. He has some musculature underneath the scruff, but nothing that stands out overmuch. He basically looks like you could snap him in half (although anyone trying it would get a smack to the temple with the butt of his gun).
    Personality: Nathanial is manipulative, prickly and above all, sarcastic. He favours wit, and loves a nice witty exchange. He’s pretty morally ambiguous, even though he’ll generally do things for the greater good. It just might not be obvious from his methods at the time. He makes enemies almost as easily as breathing, and tends to use guile and deception to make his way in the world. Because of his unfortunate (arguably) power of Synchronicity Wave Travelling, any friends Nathanial makes will almost certainly be in danger at some point. He likes to keep his distance, emotionally, from most people as a result of this.
    Although he might seem like a hard bastard, he’s plagued with nightmares about people who’ve died because of his unnatural good luck. These nightmares may be partially to blame for his near-constant state of grumpiness.
    Despite his prickliness, Nathanial can often be a source of wisdom beyond his years. He has an old head on a young body, as some people might say. Don’t underestimate him as just being an arsehole. Oh also, he has quite a distinctive English accent. On account of him being British and all. It’s not dialectal - he certainly does NOT talk like a Londoner. He has a bit of a Southern twang, but he sounds mostly Northern.
    Power Type: Supernatural
    Powers: Nathanial’s powers could be called magic in some circles, but that is simply because people assume that he’s a magician, just doing tricks. He is fully adept at hypnosis, and can utilise almost any tool to this end (a bullet dancing over his fingers, twirling a pen, you name it). He claims to be able to see demons and occult beings, but no-one knows whether this is true or not. He has mild oclumency, which can be utilised to alter memories, and an even milder ability with illusion - good for very minor things. He’d most like to improve upon his illusion, and with good reason too. The aspect of his power that’s the most pronounced, I suppose, is his natural luck. Nathanial is blessed with Synchronicity Wave Travelling, which is an instinctual ability to be in the right place at the right time, with the right people. He suspects that this power comes from siphoning off other people’s luck, but this has not been proven, save for the observation that bad shit tends to happen to people around him.
    Weapon(s): A revolver - he’s a bit sensitive that his powers are hardly the most offensive, so he’s pretty attached to the gun. It has a small chain dangling from the butt with a pentagram attached to it, and, as with much else, any mocking of said pentagram will earn the mocker a hefty slap. It’s got a long barrel (looks like this here) and is dark, charcoal grey with a polished sandalwood butt and handle.
    Drawbacks: The bad shit happening to other people is quite a drawback - Nathanial has no way of controlling this, or lessening its effects. His oclumency can only be used to alter a memory that’s already there, and even then, only ones that he is present in, and anyone concentrating hard enough can easily overcome his illusions.
    Relationships: Nathanial is a bit of a prickly bugger, but underneath this exterior he’s a soft- oh no, who am I kidding. He’s a sarcastic, prickly, annoying git, basically. Will befriend anyone patient enough to take his razor tongue, and prefers someone who he can have some witty banter with.
    History: Keeps a pretty clamped mouth on his background. His English accent can be a cause for speculation - he is indeed British, but he won’t say where he came from (it’s many places - he’s travelled and lived in the majority of the main English cities). All he’s willing to say is that he needs to find a way to keep his SWT under control, so you can take that as his reason for joining the school.
    Other: Yeah yeah, so I’m stealing a DC universe character for a Marvel RPG, blasphemy blasphemy, suck John Constantine’s arse DC is better anyway. *hides* At least I didn’t give his codename as Hellblazer, lol.
    Nathanial Grey || The Arc
    centre of the cyclone
    A giant bastard spider. Oh the joys. The rapture! As if the strangling mechanical vines of death weren’t enough, now they were being subjected to giant bloody spiders of doom as well. Nathanial rolled his eyes as the ice-manipulating Coldsnap with the really unoriginal codename asked what the plan was.
    “Uh, kicking its arse?” Arc glanced at the iceman. “Obviously.” He sized up the situation speedily – the spider, while armoured, didn’t look particularly quick on its tippy toes – and from Nathanial’s somewhat limited experience with... arachnids... well, he was willing to bet that it didn’t like extremes of temperature.
    “Coldsnap, ice its eyes. If we cut off its sight, we get a massive advantage. Tracer, what dya reckon those machines over at the other side do? Ruffles, uh, you just keep doing your thing, love.” She smiled in agreement.
    “What’re you gonna do?” Tracer yelled over his shoulder as he skirted the advancing spider on the way to the control panels.
    Nathanial smiled as his team split off, perfect distractions for the beastie. “I’m a fairly good bloody distraction kid,” he jumped backwards as the spider lunged towards him with a wickedly pointed leg. He let off a shot, the bullet embedding into the main carapace-armour on its stomach and then dodged backwards again as the thing advanced.
    “Quicker than you look, you bastard,” he mumbled, firing off another bullet, which missed. His fingers danced to the spares in his belt and he shot a glare at Coldsnap. “Quick as you like with the ice, kid!”
    Coldsnap shot a confident grin back at Arc as an icicle coalesced and then stabbed into the spider. It skittered, off-balance for a second, and Nathanial took the opportunity to loose another shot – this time hitting the spot right into one of its eight or so eyes. “Oh yeah!” he exclaimed, and then grinned even wider as Coldsnap’s ice hit it right in the remaining eyes. The frost covered them over as sure as a frozen lake in midwinter, the ice crystallising any water present in the eyes. “I bet that hurt,” Arc winced. “How’s those machines coming along Tracer?” he called, raising his voice above the high-pitched squeals of the spider. It was much easier to avoid now that it was basically blind.
    “Oh, they’re just your basic locking mechanism. Shouldn’t take me another minute to- oh.”
    “Oh? What oh? Why am I not filled with the light of enthusiasm at your words, kid?”
    “Well,” he looked mildly worried. “It seems that in trying to open the door I’ve set off a...”
    “Spit it out!”
    “Traps, Arc.”
    “More traps?” Ruffles’ smile faltered. “But we already had those vine things... and the spider!”
    “Don’t worry, love,” Nathanial paused to shoot the last five bullets in quick succession right into the soft underbelly of the failing spider. “We’ll manage. We’re a team! Right team?”
    A chorus of unenthusiastic ‘right’s answered Nathanial’s rather fake cheer and he sighed. “At least the bastard spider’s down, right?” He took a somewhat battered cigarette from an inside pocket and lit it surreptitiously as the spider toppled.
    Into a trapdoor. Which had opened, delightfully, across the entire span of the room between Tracer and the rest of the team.
    “Lovely,” Nathanial sighed, inhaling a mighty puff of nicotine. “Thank god I thought to bring my fags, I’d probably be dying of stress right about now.” He cursed their measly luck for ending up with no telekinetics on their team.
    “Snappy, can you make some sort of, I dunno, ice platform across that thing?” Arc squatted down and examined the edge of the chasm.
    Ruffles peered over, on tiptoes. “Looks like there’s spikes down there,” she observed.
    “How unoriginal,” Nathanial frowned. “A spike pit. It’s like some sort of awful amateur horror film.”
    “Next thing we know there’ll be scythes swinging from... the... roo-” Coldsnap trailed off as, on cue, a scythe swung from the roof.
    “Shit!” Nathanial flung himself to the floor, dropping his cigarette into the spike-pit. Ruffles dove to one side, narrowly avoiding losing her head, and Coldsnap performed some sort of desperate limbo, toppling over backwards like a gymnast going into crab.
    “My bloody cig!” Nathanial stared mournfully down the pit as the light of the burning end fluttered cheerfully to its doom. “Bloody bastarding scythe.”
    Tracer
    “Just because you think you know everything, just makes you admit you know nothing.”
    Danger Room
    0956
    Yellow Team
    *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*
    Just my luck, Tracer thought to himself as his mind raced with possibilities. From a mechanical set of vines and whips, to a robotic spider, and finally to top it all off, a classic tiger trap pit with moving scythes. Nice.
    Trying to hack through the door wasn't working. Obviously Sigil had called in some SHIELD defenses this time, or she just messed with his datapad, or anyone did. Not that it mattered right now as they were worried about getting across a chasm with scythes swinging across it. Hacking the system wasn't an option. Hell, he might have failed them all at that point.
    He glanced across the path as his mind started calculating the physics involved in the swinging scythes, and his hands dancing across the screen of his datapad.
    “Still want me to make that ice-bridge?” Coldsnap shouted.
    “Bugger!” Arc replied, annoyed at the loss of his cigarette.
    “Cold!” Tracer shouted. “Can you freeze the scythes?”
    “What?!”
    “Freeze them to the wall at the apex of their swing.”
    There was a bit of silence.
    “When they stop!”
    “Oh! Right! I can try!”
    “What do you have cooking Trace?” Ruffles shouted.
    “Arc! Shoot up at the mechanism when Coldsnap freezes it.”
    Arc seemed to be catching onto the hacker's plan as he grumbled about his lost cigarette and reloaded his gun.
    One of the scythes swung by, and keeping away from the edge of the pit-trap, Coldsnap let loose with a burst of cold air, ice forming around the spot where the scythe met its maximal height and extending it to the blade, catching it. It stopped for a moment, even as Coldsnap continued to send out a super-cold beam and freezing the blade. Arc aimed and then took his shot as he heard the gears start to grind to keep the scythe moving.
    The bullet flew, and struck home in the mechanism, stopping the gears from moving the scythe. One was stopped, only three more to go...
    “Freeze the next one Cold,” Arc commented as he aimed for the following gear mechanism.
    Through a bit of time and team work, they managed to cross the room by using the frozen scythes as stepping stones to hop across the spike-filled chasm. Coldsnap had made a smaller bridge to help with the jumps. As they reached the other side, Arc slapped Tracer on the shoulder playfully (but still a bit hard).
    “Quick thinking chap,” he said, a cigarette in his mouth.
    “Yeah,” he replied, rubbing his shoulder. “Any time...”
    Demon
    “I just want to live.”
    Danger Room
    0956
    Blue Team
    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
    A roar of reptilian rage echoed through the tunnel as Demon slashed apart another android. Blue team was a few more rooms ahead, making their way to the goal of this test. However they seemed to have been caught in a hallway with robots firing en mass.
    Laser fire scorched his arm and Demon roared as the pain spiked through his system and then dulled, his regeneration correcting the damage.
    “There's too many!” Pluto shouted as he smashed a few into a dense ball of twisted iron and metal.
    “Outnumbered!” Blackout cheered. “Don't have enough cake for all of them!”
    “Can you hold them off?” Thalass asked.
    Demon growled as his mouth clenched around another robot and biting it apart.
    “Sure, keep the dino in my way,” Pluto grumbled.
    “Hey! Dino's fun!” Blackout replied.
    “You've been putting him down since the test started,” Thalass stated. “Do you always treat your teammates this way?”
    “What does it matter?”
    “It matters to us. If we don't act as a unit, we fail, and we don't leave. I won't let your bad attitude jeopardize that.”
    “Jepordize what?” he snorted. “We fail, big deal.”
    “We fail, we get locked up for being who we are. Do you really want that?”
    There was a tense moment between the two. Even as Blackout tried to get their attention to the fact that Demon was being swarmed by the robots as they pushed on through the hallway.
    “Um. Guys. Demon. He's.... DOGPILE!” the hyper one shouted.
    They turned to see a moving mass of robots ontop of the saurian student. Thalass clentched her fists and water started to collect from the air, before she waved her hand in a chopping motion, slicing two robots off of Demon.
    “Get them off of him!”
    “Whatever!”
    Some robots were lifted up into the air, their circuits confused to their change in space. Demon managed to tear the rest off in a show of reptilian anger and animalistic fury.
    “Oh No.” Blackout sang. “There goes Tokyo. Go go Godzilla!”
    “Hey Dino!” Pluto shouted. Demon spun his head back, eyes lit red with rage.
    Robots that he had already tore through started to collect and condense into a tight ball of metal machinery and circuitry. Pieces started becoming so squashed that they were almost concreted together. It was a very dense, very hard sphere of warped metal.
    “Remember racketball?” he asked as the sphere started to float with his influence.
    With a roar, Demon dashed back towards the ball. Digging his claws into the walls and ground, he pivited around the sphere, and slammed his tail into it. Being of lessened gravity, but not lessened mass, the sphere bounded around the hallway, slamming into the legion of robots like an extreme version of bowling. The sphere gained more mass as the frames were smashed into it, adding to the size.
    Any remaining robots were disposed of after that initial attack combination of Demon's strength, and Pluto's gravitating abilities.
    With that completed, Blue team moved on.
    Hiya, yes I know I'm a bit (okay more like half a month) late on posting. But I figure I can give a little direction and post for my characters too.
    The point, or direction for the moment is to continue onto the goal of this test, which is to get past all of the sections and get to the center room (which all three sections connect to), and retreive a set of data discks (so consider it a three man version of Capture the Flag), with various challenges to all students. So in the next few, you can post more of the trials, and even get to the center room. Everyone should get there at about the same time. Granted, in the center room there will be more obstacles, traps and challenges. After another round of posts, I'll wrap up the issue.
    Good playing.
