Bad news, guys... My three year old Dell Inspiron laptop seems to be nearing the end of its life. Pages are taking longer and longer to load, the thing is heating to the point that putting my hand underneath it will probably give me a first degree burn, and Youtube seems to have stopped functioning entirely even with the IE8 it made me install - if I have so much as one other page or an IM open, Youtube videos play for all of a few minutes before they start to stutter, then the sound starts to come out like it's being pulled apart, then it freezes altogether and sometimes even the Internet connection is broken.

Am I fucked? Can my laptop be saved somehow? Or has its time to meet its maker finally come?

reformat and see if that helps at all? i don't know if it'll help the heat problem but it might fix everything else.

best bet, dish out for a new laptop or PC. sounds like it's beyond the point of no return. Or a slightly cheaper alternative (mostly) is to dish out for spare parts, replace hardware. But this isn't for the faint hearted, laptops are quite difficult to replace hardware for compared to PC's.

Alternative alternative, that is if you prefer to clean your laptop as opposed to buying things for it / a new one. use different and more light weight programs. IE for one is an extremely heavy weight program, use an internet browser like mozilla firefox or google chrome. you could do a system clear-up and full system scan to see if it's a virus slowing down your laptop, or you can do a full hard drive format (which basically deletes everything off your hard drive and requires you to reinstall windows or whatever operating system you're using - so this isn't advised if you have important files or data you wish to keep, without backing it up)

oh dear. that's a shame. i'm hoping (assuming his laptop did catch fire) he got someone to fix it lol, though i'm hoping more that he is just working it out himself (though this seems unlikely)

computers in general i've found can be temperamental regardless of their condition - good or bad.

i've always been a PC guy. never did get the mac, never actually been on one tbh. i always thought they were for art or media students lol
