Arena: Mineral desert

Sand as far as the eye can see. There is one big rock pillar in the middle, shaped like an obelisk. Various strange symbols are drawn in the sand, but seem to dissapear now and then. There's a four turn Sandstorm, then two turns without. Weather-moves are only usable in the two turns that the sandstorm is subdued. As soon as the two turns are over, the sandstorm is back. Earthquake is pretty ineffective due to all the sand; and the drought slightly lessens the power of water-pokemon or water-moves.

Badge: Solid Stone

A silverwhite round stone with a sharp edge. It is according to rumors the combination of his former badge and that of his master. It consists only of pure minerals.

It will be a four on four, single battle.
Banned moves: Rest, Toxic and Pain Split.

Here’s the thing about desserts: desserts suck. They’re hot, dry… sand gets in your socks… not a Mountain Dew in sight… ugh. Fortunately, as I wander aimlessly through dunes of chipper yellow sand, I find myself stumbling upon a match between the Mineral Leader of a Gym, MLG, and Mike Mysterio, a known and fiery competitor. Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s do this!

As the battle kicks off, a huge Sandstorm swells up and begins beating away at our battlers, but neither seem too shaken up. Gaara starts by… bounding into the air inexplicably! (She’s a friggin’ Donphan! WTF?) Momentarily taken aback by his foe’s ability to defy physics, Kurma commands grassy roots to stem forth from the ground and attack the airborne pachyderm, but they can’t seem to reach far enough. Bummer.

Gaara Gattle: <Bouncin’…>
Kurma: <-3 EP>

Gravity soon does what gravity does best and Gaara soon comes whizzing down uncontrollably to the ground. She manages to aim her descent properly and lands right atop Kurma’s back fauna, causing the weighty titan to groan. Nonetheless, Kurma bucks Gaara off his back and, as steel begins to encase his head, he hops up and headbutts the big ol’ Donphan. She goes skidding into the sand. Aww.

Gaara Gattle: <-9 HP; -7 EP>
Kurma: <-14 HP; -7 EP>

Gaara holds his ground as Kurma opens wide and spews out a bevy of explosive seedlings. As the barrage strikes Gaara, the Donphan uses the sheer strength of the exploding seeds to propel her into the air as she leaps upon Kurma once more. This time, she lashes out with that mighty trunk of hers and just about uproots the Torterra’s mighty shell tree. Ouchies.

As motes of sand whip around us, Gaara finds a fun-looking boulder on the ground and declares it her Substitute. Kurma, however, causes viny shoots to protude from the ground and wrap themselves around the rather large rock. They tug and flail at the Substitute until the strain of the move causes the boulder to snap neatly in half! Oh my!

Gaara Gattle: <-15 HP; -5 EP; Sub: -15 HP; Sub: Broken!>
Kurma: <-8 EP>

Irked that her Sub had such a short shelf-life, Gaara horks up a glob of toxic gunk and spits it at her foe. The goop gets in Kurma’s eyes, but doesn’t manage to inflict a status upon the earthy tortoise. Pleased about that, Kurma spits out a projectile of his own, this one a tiny seed that soars through the air before landing neatly on one of Gaara’s tusks. Suddenly, a bevy of vines erupts from the little seed and begins to constrict the tusk. Peculiar.

Gaara Gattle: <-10 EP; Seeded>
Kurma: <-12 HP; -3 EP>

It’s Seed Bomb on Energy Ball as our fighters unleash their next pair of attacks. The moves pass by one another as they strike their respective targets. Kurma grunts under the explosive impact of Gaara’s explosive seedies, but the Donphan seems to have taken the lion’s share of the damage as the Energy Ball sends her skidding backward into the sand.

The seed then gobbles a little health from Gaara Gattle <-3 HP> and transfers it to Kurma <+3 HP>.

Slightly lagging behind her foe in terms of health, Gaara nonetheless keeps her head as she scoops up some sand with her trunk, spits in it to moisten it up and flingers it at Kurma. The gunk gets in his eyes (Dude, spit? Seriously? Ew.) and compromises his Accuracy just a tad. The big ol’ leviathan is still able to shoot out a few exploding seedies at Gaara, which give the Donphan more than a little bit to wail about.

Kurma: <-2 HP; -6 EP; -1 Acc>

All of a sudden, Gaara recoils into a ball and begins spinning on the spot. The Leech Seed attached to her flies clear off her body as she darts in toward Kurma, doing minor damage. The Torterra responds by tackling his foe with a second aggressive Iron Head. Kurma stomps and paws at the ground in anger. That’s what you get for ruining my beautiful gardening, a-hole!

Kurma: <-2 HP; -7 EP>

Closing her eyes as the sand continues to whip and fly about us, Gaara Gattle begins muttering a weird incantation under her breath. Suddenly, her Speed stat takes a hit but is replaced by increased Attack and Defence. Yay! Kurma, perplexed by this little bit of elephantine hocus pocus, shrugs it off and begins whipping out a few jagged leaves that slice into the Donphan. Aww, poor girl.

As the next round begins, Gaara opens wide and fires off a quick succession of icicles at Kurma. They collide with the Torterra who grunts as his double weakness to Ice gets exploited at long last. In retaliation, the big scary tortoise spits out his own assault, this one taking the form of explosive seeds. The Seed Bomb strikes Gaara who grunts as this familiar strategy gets the best of her once again.

Kurma: <-9 HP; -6 EP>

Once again, Gaara releases a speedy Ice Shard at Kurma who grunts as the chill seeps in. All of a sudden, a green halo materializes around Kurma's body as his Overgrow ability activates and new strength suffuses his body. He stumbles forth to suck a little health from Gaara, but alas, his attempt his in vain. Despite his newfound might, he lunges a little bit too far to the left, missing the Donphan by a solid foot. Gaara Gattle sticks out her tongue and blows her foe a raspberry. Yeah, suck it!

Kurma gives his head a shake. Okay, that’s it. He lumbers forth again and successfully extends tiny tendrils that coil around Gaara. Though the Donphan tries to resist, the Giga Drain saps just about every last bit of health she has, but her Sturdy nature allows her to hold on... barely. With one explosion of energy, white light envelops Gaara as she throws her body forth into Kurma. Ouchies! Kurma rolls his eyes. And she was almost dead, too!

The perpetual Sandstorm then comes to an end. A hopeful silence fills the battlefield.

Liam kicks things off with a terrific Blizzard just as Kurma commands a swirling storm of Overgrow-boosted leaves to come spiraling toward his foe. When the maelstrom of ice and plant-matter at last settles, Kurma lies silently in the sand. This Pogey has fought until he can fight no more!

The steel on Logan's arms slide out, and two explosions are heard. One, a cannon firing, a flash of steel striking Liam. The other, the ground beneath Logan exploding, sending Logan airborne.

I just remembered this. Gonna note that Logan here is still snoozing, and as such doesn't even note that Liam is pooping rock shards. That's kinda gross actually. Well it doesn't matter too much, cause Liam just got a dose of Aura Sphere to the FACE! Liam disapproves very, very much.

Logan takes a few sharp breaths of fear and wakes up, hands out in front of him. Liam seems satiated with his fill, but Logan enacts immediate revenge by blasting Logan back with a cannon of steel energy.
