    Default Yu-Gi-Oh! Deck Concepts

I've had occasion to dust off my collection recently. I haven't been buying cards en masse lately 'cause I don't have the cash to spare, so instead I've just been focusing on getting all the cards that I once stored away in tins and other places loaded into my binders, where they should be.

In the process, I felt inspired to start up a few different deck concepts, in spite of the fact that I have about eight different decks already. Most of them are custom-made character decks (Yugi, Joey, Kaiba, Marik, Jaden [E-Heroes], Jaden [Neo-Spacians], Yusei) that have a tendency to either win outstandingly or lose horribly.

As I was going through all my binders, I was floored to see all the support for a Morphtronic deck (I think this is Leo's territory, from 5D's) and wondered why I hadn't yet built one. So my brain started going round and round on that one. I also started getting ideas for a pure Trap deck, since there are enough Trap/Monster cards that could make it work these days. Then my girlfriend chimed in and said she'd like to try building a deck based on Tokens.

    Brain explodey.

She eventually sat down and started putting together a canine-themed deck. Son of a gun, it actually seems to work, too - at least enough to best the Neo-Spacian deck. We'll have to work our way up, I think. It needs more testing.

So I guess I'm on a deck-building kick. Anybody got fun or odd deck concepts they might like to see tried out? I'm willing to do some play-testing.

I've been playing around at Dueling Network with novelty decks... My clown deck has worked surprisingly well.

A clown deck? I'm intrigued. Probably the most "original" concept I've come up with is my 0 ATK deck.

I'm honestly quite surprised no one has thought up of an Exodia Greed Deck. You know, have Muka Muka or it's Enraged counterpart be the attacking force while you're slowly building up the pieces of Exodia.

I'll bet it's happened somewhere, but that sounds like a great idea. I do have all the pieces of Exodia, and Muka Muka was one of my early favorite cards. 6 cards in hand, 2400 ATK on a 2 star monster? Yes, please!

Now I'm gonna try that out.

It's a combination of regular Clown Control (Crass Clown, Dream Clown, and a bunch of cards that abuse their effects which conveniently enough includes Ryu-Kishin Clown) and some novelty cards like Axe of Fools for power boosts, Peten the Dark Clown and Mystic Tomato for deck-thinning, and I've even managed some success with the oddly effective combo of Clown Zombie and Amulet of Ambition.

The star of the deck, Bickuribox, is another card I run 3 of. It's not very remarkable, but Future Fusion and Dark Fusion make it another viable deck thinner that can get the Clowns out from the Graveyard in a hurry.

A lot of guys I play with don't seem to realize how useful Dark Fusion is on monsters that aren't Evil Heroes. I'm a fan of Bickuribox, and frankly it's one of the more remarkable fusion monsters available for what it fuses from. It might not impress with ATK right off the bat, but put a Malevolent Nuzzler or an Axe of Despair on it and it's something to pay attention to in a quick hurry.

I once saw a deck that had no monsters in it at all. Just spell and trap cards...and it was surprisingly effective. I mean REALLY effective. It had the potential to win a game in a couple of turns.

I always loved my Beat Ground deck. It wont work now with all the M/T removers. But back in the day it was a beast to contend with. The idea was to have numerous Effect Monsters that can keep the opponent's side of the field clean. While working to get 3 Ground Collapses into my hand. When I do I will have the opponent's field cleared to lock up all their monster spots ( including one of mine ) with the Ground Collapses, and then quickly finish him/her off with beat sticks.

Thread bump, 'cause this section of the site gets little love.

Also, I've restructured my Yusei deck. It used to be the deck I had that would always lose, no matter what, even in spite of my having all the Synchro monsters he used. I eventually discovered why it kept losing: I built it based on the deck he actually used. Well, we all know about deus ex machina, and that was Yusei... the man only took one loss in the entire 5D's series.

So it is no longer my "Yusei" deck, but merely my "Synchro" deck. That seemed to give it the push it needed, too - I focused all my attention on being able to get out Synchro monsters as fast as humanly possible. It's now the beatstick I bring to tournaments and I can pull out Synchros faster than my opponents pull Xyz monsters. Included in the extra deck are the following:

    Armory Arm x1
    Dark Diviner x1
    Formula Synchron x1
    Gravity Warrior x1
    Junk Archer x1
    Junk Berserker x1
    Junk Destroyer x2
    Junk Gardna x1
    Junk Warrior x1
    Road Warrior x1
    Shooting Quasar Dragon x1
    Shooting Star Dragon x1
    Stardust Dragon x1
    Turbo Warrior x1

I had a friend recommend ditching one of them (probably either Armory Arm or Gravity Warrior) for Scrap Dragon for its destruct effect, since I run Call of the Haunted and then as often as not I'll send the monster I summoned with it to the grave for another Synchro, and all of a sudden I have a dead card on the field. I can't argue this logic but I'm reluctant to lose a Level 4 or Level 6 Synchro, which are relatively simple to bring out, in favor of a Level 8, especially when I'm working towards pulling out Shooting Quasar Dragon (I have a strategy to get him out in one with my current build).

    Any thoughts?
