ASB Mega Pokémon Grand Tournament!

It's been so long since we've done a tournament, and since Mega Evolutions are all the rage right now, the mod team has decided to throw a big tournament to showcase these powerful pokémon!

To sign up for the tournament, you must have a pokémon capable of mega evolution. However, once you sign up with that pokémon, no one else may use that pokémon. Charizard is the exception because for some reason they get two. That said, I'll leave registration open until December 5, and we'll sort out the battles then. There are no other sign-up restrictions. If we have an awkward number of participants, we'll deal with it.

Rules for each battle is as follows:

• 1-on-1.
• 1 week DQ time.
• Mega Evolution can be activated at any time during the battle, but it costs an action to do so.
• Non-damaging healing moves (Recover, not Absorb, etc.) and Double Team are banned. Don't want these battles lasting forever.

Most importantly, the winner of this tournament will receive, for free, a MEGA RING and MEGA STONE to use with the pokémon you battled with! Yay!

I choose Polkaroo, my female Scrappy Kangaskhan.

Do we know how all the Mega Evolutions will be handled? Some Mega Pokemon, like Mega Abomasnow, have the same ability and typing as their pre-Mega counterpart, so they just undergo a base stat change, except we don't really follow base stats at ASB. Would Mega Abomasnow's attacks just do more damage than regular Abomasnow's?

Megasnow becomes a bit more beastly, to be honest. The way I'd ref megas that don't get any real changes (aside from cosmetic) would be to give them stat gains based on their in-game stats. So Megasnow's attack and sp. attack raise.

What about the Megas that get in-game stat changes as well as new types and/or abilities? Do we also give them stat boosts?

Their gains will be much less exciting. Megaroo and Megavoir both get beastly abilities, so their gains will be non-existent. But Megabsol or Megadactyl only get a boring ability change, so they'll get a little better stat raises. The ones with no change whatsoever outside of appearance will end up receiving the best stat gains.

Since when is Mega Absol's ability boring? That is something I just can't comprehend.

Quite frankly, I like the idea of having a Pokemon utilize Magic Bounce in battle, whether it's a Mega Pokemon or not.

So because of that, I'm entering with Sabre, my male Absol (who has Pressure). I just want to see how strong he can possibly be if he was in his Mega form.

btw that means even though it won't affect hyper beam and giga impact, it affects close combat and focus blast, not to mention hi jump kick...

Alright, sign-ups are locked in, which is convenient because we have the perfect amount of battlers for a league this size. For any referees out there that want to take a battle or two, I'm gonna recommend some guidelines for how to deal with mega evolutions.

• Oslo and Kangaskhan
  
  • @Parental Bond is pretty broken (even with the ASB nerf), so Mega Kangaskhan doesn't get any stat gains.
  
  
• Knight of Time and Absol
  
  • Mega Absol gets @Magic Bounce, which is better than any of Absol's regular abilities. It's good, but not too crazy, so mega evolution nets a gain of +2 to Attack and Sp. Attack.
  
  
• BTPoke and Gardevoir
  
  • @Pixilate is an amazing ability, so mega evolution shouldn't account for too many gains. +2 to Sp. Attack.
  
  
• Ayeun and Mawile
  
  • Mega Mawile already gets @Huge Power, which is already a +3 to attacks. +2 to Defense.
  
  
• Ash0011 and Lucario
  
  • Mega Lucario ain't much different than the regular. +2 Attack and Sp. Attack.
  
  
• Emerald_Gen.3 and Gallade
  
  • Mega Gallade is probably one of the most boring mega evolutions. +4 to Attack and +2 to Sp. Attack.
  
  
• nepence and Aerodactyl
  
  • Mega Aerodactyl is in the same boat as Absol. Good but not crazy. +2 Attack and Speed.
  
  
• Perfect Chaos and Banette
  
  • @Prankster is alright, but there's not much that makes them stand out from regular Banette. +4 to Attack.
