New R/S Pokédex on the official site

I just discovered that Pokémon.com has a new R/S Pokédex (which is different in a few ways from the one at Pokémon-Games.com). The only reason I bring it up is for the new Pokémon drawings.

I was particularly surprised by Mawile's new look. I had no idea that the picture in the game was actually a rear viewpoint of Mawile. (The new Dex has a front-view, which makes Mawile much cooler in my book... I had previously thought that Mawile was a huge-jawed freak!) Oh well... I bought Sapphire anyway.

On another point, I didn't realize Milotic is that huge. He's no wailord, but he's still huge.

oh yea, Swablu is tiny. I always imagined him to be around 6 foot.

i dont think this is very accurate since all they did was enlarge both the width and height of the picture- what i mean is that for some poke they arent taking in account length into height since i highly doubt milotic is that big and a poke like torkoal that tiny - so although official, not really accurate

I always knew where mawile's real head was, and frankly, I never liked that. I would have MUCH preffered if those really were its jaws.

Didn't realize huntail was so huge, though. I always knew swalot was gigantic, but for those of you who weren't aware, check him out.

I wasnt really surprised. I always check the size in the R/S pokedex which are pretty much exactly like that one. I do like the "Stats" thing. It helps you decide on which nature you might want your pokey to be.

Why dont you think Milotic is really that big? Look at Gyrados...nobody would've thought that a Magicarp could've evolved into something that big and that powerful.

Some of those Pokemon are ridiculously small. I pictured some of their heights to be totally different before I clicked on each one.

seviper is like comically big. torkoal is REALLY small. i understand that turtles can be that small, but i pictured torkoal as being one of those larger land-tortoise things. milotic is REALLY huge, as is wailord. how could they make arenas big enough for those things??? walrein should be like 6'. camerupt is a good height. hariyama is tall.

salamence is as tall as i am. come on people, that's really NOT intimidating. salamence was so much more bad-*ss looking than dragonite, but they had to ruin it by making him, like, a midget. latias and, i imagine, latios, are way too small. i pictured them being like huge jet things.

manectric is kinda big. i thought it would be like 4', not 5'.

also, they have "sabdshrew" written on the site. let's all laugh.

Torkoal IS darned small; I thought it would be about 3' or so in height. And Roselia! Geez, it is TINY. I figured it would be 3' or so, but no... you could accidently step on the poor thing!

I always pictured Torkoal as absolutley MASSIVE. Like a big lumbering tank of fire, magma and rock. When I first saw a picture of it, I was sure it was a Macargo evolved.

Oh wow! Mawile does look really cool! I thought Game Freak were having a joke when I saw Mawile. But knowing that Mawile on R/S is a picture of him from the back and seeing the picture of him from teh front makes me wanna go out and catch him!

Gamefreak didn't design any of the pokemon, Satoshi Tajiri comes up with every last one.

Like I said, I loved the idea of the jaws and I actually don't want one as much because it's real face is so normal. I don't know why everyone was so freaked out by mawile...I've spent my whole life drawing monsters and collecting monster toys and watching monster movies and honestly, there was almost nothing odd to me about the idea of a little creature with massive steel jaws sprouting out of its scalp. I've just seen SO many freaky creatures in my life, it was pretty darn standard. Monsters don't have to follow normal animal designs/rules, it's interesting when something looks completely unique.

And yeah, that does mean I actually don't consider any pokemon too bizarre. Even the concept of an empty bug-shell-ghost, seems like an obvious and simple idea to me, and I myself have designed monsters that are nothing but huge crawling stomachs like swalot (I would've liked swalot more, though, if it had been drawn just slightly more detailed and learned a few better attacks)

Some of those pokemon are big shockers in there size like Torkoals size and then Swalots size.

Heh, I didnt know about Mawile's real mouth 'till now - but then again, its Species IS "Deceiver"...

As for Heights and Weights, I have the Prima "Ruby/Sapphire" guide, so I've read about them before now...and I'll admit, some of the sizes of the new Pokemon did surprise me a bit. (e.g. Torkoal and Roselia are smaller than I expected, and Wailord is HUGE - I think it's the largest Pokemon currently known to man! )

I was kinda surprised to see how big Swalot and Seviper were and how small Grovyle, Combusken and Marshtomp were.

I like how they gave Blaziken that "shadowed" face, as opposed to the one where his beak is showing.

You don't build arenas for that thing, all Gyms must automatically move to the nearest LARGE BODY OF WATER just in case. XD

Woah, Milotic is not that big. Its LENGTH, not HEIGHT. J*sus, it looks like Milotic is some HUGE sea serpent type thing.

Milotic's size rating is far more reasonable in the actual in-game size comparisons.

Compare the size rating to the *actual* size ratings in-game.

And they make Milotic look like some watery Speed Demon, like it's as fast as Starmie or something. Its base speed is only 81.

And Wailord. is. HUUUUGEE.

3 things.

1-Even some of the in-game sizes are wrong, like with the site's Seviper being 8 feet from belly to back instead of snout to vent? The game does the same thing with Dratini (I have a Gameshark). The site's dex also seems to measure Wailord the same way.

2-My GOD! Mawile is even cuter than I thought!!!!!! Although, from it's official and in-game pics, it seems to have the typical Pokemon-style red eyes (white with red irises and no pupils) but here, it has near-solid red eyes.

3-Lileep/Cradily=Tentacle-R*pe Pokemon

anyways, ya have a point.. but heres something else that caught my attention: Steelix is only 4 feet shorter than wailord (36 feet, i believe), yet steelix doesnt look as huge as wailord. i mean, in stadium 2, lugia was ALOT bigger than steelix, and lugias only like 17 feet

The thing is,as someone said,it's lenght,not height!In the case of Pokémon with solid,not-stretched body,it's height;but in case of long,serpent-like Pokémon,it's lenght!Put a Milotic or any serpent Poké stretched like a line,and they'll have the height that Pokédex says.

Now,Wailord may refer also as Lenght,not height,but Wailord is actually based on the Blue Whale(Only height,not weight).In my book comparisions,Blue Whales are not only very long,but also VERY huge!Of course they're far bigger than Wailord seems to be,but as far as comparision goes,it's done well.

So,this 'Dex is taking the total-stretched size,and not the actual height.If a Gyarados goes to sleep,it'd curl itself up,and wouldn't be bigger than you.It should take in count the grossor of the body...Comparing to the game,this'dex is kinda OK,but some Pokés are stretched-up too much,like Milotic.However,most pokés with solid body are like in the game meassurements.

I Like thie idea of the picture comparsions (both in game and online), but I dont' like the way most pokemon are so small. I was imaging them to be huge monstrosities.. .say... minimun of 3 ft and maxium of 10 ft or so... not... 1 feet and 6 ft. that's just... so small.

Some of these are just rediculous. Groudon I can understand, since it's, like, a big red death-by-sunstroke machine. But Wailord? The freakin trainer looks like a stick figure next to it! And Torkoal - I expected it to be at least 4 feet. It's not a tortise at all, just a mini box turtle. Lastly, Natu. It's small. Like, really small. Microscopic-type. Take a look.

Anyway... I just had a thought that since Wailord is so enormous (or, as I like to say, "gi-normous" ), you could probably have a Pokémon battle ON TOP of him! Forget about using him in a gym... just take some Pokémon to the top and have at it!

I've always hated (or is it feared?) snakes, so do you think I'm gonna like an 8 foot tall one with giant fangs that could easily swallow someone whole should it get the notion?

Of course, if we decide to drag the anime into this, we all know that Natu is quite a bit larger than the official Dex shows, but that's a whole other can of worms...

That Seviper is HUGE... really, they should do better work than that... how could Zangoose and Seviper possibly be enemies, I'd be surprised if Seviper even noticed Zangoose's Slashes if it were that big... and how can it bite tiny pokémon, it must accidentally swallow then instead...

Well, I think a real mongoose will attack and kill snakes just as much larger. Their small size makes it easier for them to dodge the reptile's strikes and go straight for their neck. Roadrunners are also real tiny and eat mostly big snakes.

Seviper isn't that big curled up. Look within one of the R/S games, and then you'll see. It's actually 8 feet stretched out.
