One Piece?!

I've bought the last five issues of Pokemon & Anime Beckett, and they feature a really cools ection called Land of the Rising Fun, to let us know what's hot in Japan and expected to be in English-speaking countries soon after.

In the most recent one, after spending an hour in the other articles and finally managing to get past the poster of the Dark Magician Girl, I noticed a character review of a new anime called One Piece. Since there was no description of what it's about, I can't say much, but it looked pretty funky. Seems like it's an anime about different crews of pirates all vying to be the best pirate crew in the Carribean. Most of them are psychos, but there is one cool crew, lead by the (apparently) hilarious Monkey D. Luffy. Seems like it could be big by the end of the year in the US and so forth, so I was wondering whether anyone knows about this anime or has seen any?

It's not exactly new. It came out in 1999, already has well over 135 episodes, and 4 movies. So as you could probably guess, it is quite popular over in Japan. And seeing that FUNimation liscensed it, it's probably going to be brought to Cartoon Network and be dubbed horribly.

Actually, I'll bet the dub is going to be fantastic. If we North Americans like one thing, it's pirates.

a FUNimation dub is absolutely going to ruin one piece >_<. It's a very awesome show, not exactly new (I watched it in 2000 when I was in Japan) and it is very ummm interesting, better than some boring repetitve shows like DBZ

In a world of pirates, one man wants to become the greatest of them all: Monkey D. Luffy, who gained strange powers from eating the cursed Gum-Gum Fruit! Luffy and his crew, including Nami, a thief and swindler, and Roronoa Zoro, master of the three-sword fighting style, sail the Seven Seas in search of the legendary treasure "One Piece."


As you can see I haven't seen, but have read One Piece in the US version of Shonen Jump. I have found the comic funny in places and quite a change from my usual reading material.

I am looking forward to seeing this show in the US finally~~I only hope FUNimation doesn't screw up the dubbing

One piece is featured in Shonen Jump here in America.Its the best manga they have.I can't wait for it to be dubbed.The characters are so cool(a pirate named Monkey D. Luffy who can stretch his body like gum,but can't swim?lol)My favorite character is Tony Tony Chopper,a reindeer who ate the human human fruit and joined Luffy's crew as their doctor...lol.

-_-; Ignore me, I'm hyper... Um, *cough* All I've seen of One Piece is the first graphic novel, WHICH I OWN!! *hoards her manga protectivelly* You can't steal them!! I bought them with my own good American dollars!!

I've also seen some AMVs, and pictures.... But I already like One Piece ^_^ It's gooooooooood, methinks.

Hope? Yes. "FUNimation" and "doesn't screw up" in the same sentence? No.
Looks like Toonami has a new recruit. Y'know... it takes a certain amount of quality or a "special something" for FUNimation to be able to take it and put it on Toonami. I only say... Thank GOD that Evangelion doesn't have too much of that "something" and I pity all animes, past, present, and future, that have that "something"!
*shudder* I can only hope that they don't totally screw up the voices... again...

Hehehehehe. The thing I like about One Piece is that the readers in Japan send in all sorts of weirdo questions to the author and he answers them in little columns called 'SBS'. ((A lot of miscellaneous weirdo info about characters and nonsense stuff like 'THE HAIRDRESSER SHAVED ME BALD WHEN I ASKED FOR A HAIRCUT LIKE ZORO'S!!!!' ^^0))
T_T One Piece doesn't get enough exposure in the US!!!! There's about 29 volumes of the manga and the 1st English volume was released only recently... ((I read up to book 18 in Malay [ie. a language only used in that little country near Singapore]))
