The Shadow Fleet. Often dubbed the Razing Fleet due to before the Death Star was built, they could level a planet's main cities into rubble within hours. However, after the Grand Admiral was tracked down and killed by the New Republic after the Battle of Endor, it has been under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the last of the Grand Admirality. However, after the battle of Sluis Van, which turned into a defeat after Thrawn called the retreat, Admiral Kavare of the Shadow Fleet pulled away from the Empire and formed their own faction: The Shadow Conglomerate. They took about a tenth of what remained of the Empire with them. A handful of planets, who hated the New Republic but did not like the tyranny of the Empire, joined the Shadow Conglomerate, adding their forces to an already impressive force.
The New Republic dismissed them as a pipe dream, soldiers with a lost cause and not anywhere near the level of threat as the Empire. But this was no problem for the Shadow Conglomerate: in time they would know why they would regret that conclusion.
The smugglers had discovered a secret instrument: a farosorb, an ancient artifact that could change weapons technology forever. If harnessed correctly, these can provide potent and deadly energy for any arsenal.
The Shadow Conglomerate has learnt of these and has discovered there are many scattered about the galaxy, usually near nexuses that were temples to the acolytes of Korunus, a man perceived to be a God due to his power over the dark side of the force.
The New Republic has heard from the guilds that a new organisation is paying bounty hunters to look for these farosorbs, but only the Shadow Conglomerate know what they're for. Thus, the New Republic sent out some agents to investigate.
