at 25% health, the berry takes effect (for salac, leichi, petaya, stat boosters...)
I just got a Jirachii from Pokemon Channel, and it's holding a "Salac Berry". The Jirachi alone is royally cool, but a funky berry?! Woo! Checking up on it over at Pokemon Forever, the berry (along with several others) 'when in a pinch' raises speed. I was just wondering, does that mean that a pokemon eats it when on low health (BTW, how low health?) and its speed rises?
I'm confused, because with other items it has similar synopsis, but I don't know if the berry gets eaten or not.
Thanks.

Same sort of Berries available in Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire without Pokemon Colosseum/Fire Red/Leaf Green.
Salac Berry (Speed) - Jirachi from Pokemon Channel to Pokemon Sapphire.
Ganlon Berry (Defence) - Jirachi from Pokemon Channel to Pokemon Ruby.
Liechi Berry (Attack) - Grown on Mirage Island if you're lucky and get there some day.
Sorry if I'm going a bit off-topic, but I'd suggest that you do not let your Pokémon eat the only Salac Berry you have; plant it so you can grow more
If one of your Pokémon already ate that berry, don't worry about it because in Pokémon Colosseum, you'll be able to buy another one (or a different berry, if you like) for 15,000 pts. worth of PokéCoupons
Thanks for that pearl of Wisdom DT, but I didn't intend to.
So, the berry does get eaten to get the effect, right?
Oh, BTW, this may be an UK (or a UK thing. Depends whether you say "You Kay" or "Ooh Kay") thing, but I got Salac on Ruby, from Pokemon Channel. BTW, how does Mirage island work?

Yep, the Berry is eaten by the Pokemon when it takes affect.Originally Posted by Darien Shields
Salac Berry on Pokemon Ruby off Pokemon Channel? I always get Ganlon Berry. Mirage Island appears very rarely East of Pasifilog Town. You can see if it's there by talking to some guy in Town. Mirage Island very rarely appears but has Liechi Berries there.
I kinda knew that, I was more interested in the ins and outs of it. Like, what makes it appear? I heard that the pokemon in your party have a bearing on it. Also, can you try more than once a day to get the island to appear?

Just note that there are other sites (like Serebii) that say that the pinch berries activate when HP is at or below 1/3 HP, but testing shows otherwise.
As for Mirage Island, there's a special hidden number that Pokémon in your party have, and this number changes every time a Pokémon is deposited. If any of your party Pokémons' hidden number matches that of the Mirage Island random number of the day, then Mirage Island will appear. You can keep asking the old man if he can see it as a quick way of checking to see if it has.
The amount of health required for the stat berries has alway been disputed, but i believe the true amount required is 25%, which is what the RSbots use. Netbattle (commonly reffered to as "Nubbattle" by the pro-1337ists) uses 33% i think.
How many possible values are there for the Mirage Island number? I'd like to know whether it's worth trying for the liechi berry before I get a GC (which will probably be quite far in the future, since I never have any money)
Assuming DRWS was correct in saying the number changes when you deposit pokemon, and the old man symbontainiously checks your entire party (not just the pokemon in front) I'd say the odds are 1 in 256, or less. I tried about 15-30 times last night, circulating 5/6 of the pokemon in my party (it rapidly became evident that leaving one pokemon on was a good idea for speed) and to no avail. However, that wouldn't have garaunteed me success if the numbers were 1 in 256...
