Now the speediest of the trio, Acai starts off the next round by using his electric powers to generate a magnetic field around his body. All of a sudden, he lifts several inches off the balloon, breaking her contact with the inflatable Heatran beneath her feet and thus costing her the balloon boost. Just then, Ruby whips up one hell of a Blizzard, perhaps the kajillionth of the match, and sets it upon her foes. Crushed under the weight of ice and snow, Maggie manages to get off a Giga Drain at Ruby, sucking some much-needed heath from the Staryu.
Acai: <-14 HP; -4 EP>
Ruby: <-10 HP; -10 EP>
Maggie: <-14 HP; +5 HP; -7 EP>
Still hovering, Acai tilts his frame in Ruby’s direction and begins swooping toward it. Steel encases his tail and he prepares to bring it swinging down over the little starfish, but the bright light being emitted by the Star Shape Pokemon’s sky-blue core compromises his Accuracy to the point that he speeds clear past Ruby. Amused, Ruby targets Acai with a burst of Rock-type energy, while Maggie merely sits there, unable to move a muscle. Damn you, Paralysis!
Acai: <-8 HP; -6 EP>
Ruby: <-8 EP>
Maggie: <Can’t move!>
Irked at his recent string of bad luck, Acai does what he does best: mass-frying! His Discharge sparkles across the field, catching both Ruby and Maggie in its scope. Ruby tries to execute a second Blizzard but can’t seem to be able to do so, while Maggie skips toward Acai and sprinkles some purple spores all over the wily little Shinx. The electro-kitty begins to feel a little queasy all of a sudden… oh dear…
Acai: <-4 EP; Poisoned>
Ruby: <-7 HP; Can’t move!>
Maggie: <-2 HP; -4 EP>
Acai begins to suffer a little at the hands of his Poisoned state <-3 HP>.

As the next round gets underway, Acai hovers over toward Maggie with fiery fangs. Ooh. He gnashes them into Maggie, who shrieks as her rather large leaves begin to wilt. A shame Acai broke contact with the balloon and sacrificed his boost, though, or else that would really hurt! Ruby then creates some chaos in the form of a huge wintery swell, while Maggie shoots off a couple of her less scorchy leaves at the Staryu. The move slice and dice the sea star nicely.
Acai: <-10 HP; -4 EP>
Ruby: <-8 HP; -10 EP>
Maggie: <-21 HP; -4 EP>
Acai’s little spur-tipped tail begins to glow silver as she brings it swinging down against Ruby; however, typing just doesn’t seem to be in the Shinx’s favour, and the Water-type’s resistance to Steel robs the move of a bit of gusto. I imagine Ruby is pretty pleased with this fact, but then again, it’s kinda hard to tell what with its lack of face and all. Still, it calls upon the might of a Blizzard to smite its foes just as Maggie spews out a big ol’ glob of poison at Acai. Ewies!
Acai: <-18 HP; -6 EP>
Ruby: <-3 HP; -10 EP>
Maggie: <-14 HP; -8 EP>
Now it’s Acai’s turn to roast multiple targets! The Shinx’s little moment of levitation comes to an end and, as he returns to the surface of the Heatran balloon, he fires off a wide cone of electric current at Ruby and Maggie, barbecuing them to a crisp. Ruby tries to retaliate with a Blizzard, but finds itself strangely locked up. Maggie takes advantage of her foe’s misfortune by leeching as much health out of the little star as possible.
Acai: <-4 EP>
Ruby: <-17 HP; Can’t move!>

The Poison deals a little extra love to Acai <-3 HP>.

Ooh, everyone’s getting low on health again. This is always fun.
Acai kicks things off by Discharging a nice dollop of electric current and shares this with his pals, frying up Ruby and Maggie nicely. Ruby responds with a wide-ranged attack of its own and calls upon the sheer might of a Blizzard to sap health from its foes. Finally, Maggie tries to kick out a few loose petals to finish off Ruby, but her muscles lock up and prevent this attempt. Tough luck, little radish.
Acai: <-10 HP; -4 EP>
Ruby: <-7 HP; -10 EP>
Maggie: <-16 HP; Can’t move!>
Guess what time it is? Balloon swap time! The inflatable Heatran begins to dip down into the cloud cover and our three little Pogeys decide it’s time to jump ship. Fortunately for them, there’s another balloon bobbing along nearby, and in unison they make the jump. Ooh, this one is blue. And lumpy. And… fierce!
Acai: <

Ruby: <

Acai smirks. Discharge, round two! He fires off a nice blanket of electricity that descends upon Ruby and Maggie and electrocutes them just to his liking. His foes look to be just barely holding on. Just when the little rodent feels like he’s sitting pretty, Ruby knocks him off his pedestal (and out of the match, too) with a well-aimed Rock-type beam. Poor Shinxy. You will be missed.
Maggie appears miffed. She didn’t get to attack all round! What is this garbage?

After a strong showing, Ruby returns to its ball and leaves its trainer to make his fifth selection. Tossing a new Pokeball onto the head of the Poliwrath balloon, Mike summons a grumpy little beast into the fray. Ooh. Frightening. Making good on his appearance, the newbie shows what he’s made of as he crackles with electricity and discharges an unpleasant jolt toward Kyte. The poor ickle baby feels his muscles seize up. Ugh, not a great situation to be in so early on. Still, the Mantyke manages to do a little aerial spin before swooping in on Maggie, knocking the Oddish down and bringing her within an inch of death. An inch.
Feeling the pain all over, Maggie hops to her feet and executes her first attack since… Round 18! She trudges over toward Kyte and begins Flailing her leaves wildly against Kyte. Her weakened state only fuels her assault and leaves Kyte looking thoroughly assaulted.
Kyte: <-16 HP; -3 EP; Paralyzed>
Victor: <-3 EP>
Maggie: <-7 HP; -10 EP>
Once again, Victor shows his shocking side with another Thunderous attack. Once again, his crackling assault courses through Kyte, frying the Kite Pokemon relentlessly. The poor little guy! Now that all the competitors are down to two Pogeys apiece, things are getting serious. Wolfsong calls one of her big dogs into the battle… or, uh, big jackal-things? Her Lucario, Ziva, steps onto the field indomitably. Ooh. Intimidating.
The Aura Pokemon gets things off to a rather sudden start as she darts in toward Kyte and jabs the little guy hard in the side. Deciding to spread the love, Victor breathes out an overlarge flaming ideogram that soars off toward Ziva, heating things up unpleasantly for the newbie. Finally, wanting to put as much damage between himself and the others as possible, Kyte catches an updraft and soars up over the fray. Ooh, ya think he can see his house from up there?
Kyte: <-7 HP>
Victor: <-10 EP>
Ziva: <-14 HP; -8 EP>
Speedily, Ziva loosens a mighty wave of Fighting-type energy upon Victor. Yay for super-effective damage and a balloon boost all in one go! While Kyte is up there enjoying the view, Victor has nothing to latch onto and suck health from… not that he doesn’t try, however, though this attempt fails miserably. Smirking, Kyte sets his sights upon Ziva, but his muscles seize up as he begins his descent. As such, he’s just barely able to keep himself from crash-landing onto the head of the Poliwrath balloon, but he isn’t able to deal any damage. Oh, bugger.
Kyte: <Can’t move!>
Victor: <-15 HP; -7 EP>
Ziva: <-4 EP>
Determined to make up for that painful strike, Victor lunges at Ziva with one of his fists flaming. The Fire Punch clobbers Ziva in the gut, temporarily knocking the wind out of her and inflicting a nasty Burn, but the Lucario perseveres. Suddenly, her entire frame shines grey and she throws her body forth in a full-bodied tackle! She collides with Kyte, pinning the Mantyke to the balloon. With a little effort, Kyte manages to wiggle free and slams his own body into the balloon, hoping to send it shaking wildly.
But nothing happens.
Kyte: <-12 HP; -7 EP>

Ziva: <-10 HP; -8 EP>
The Burn stings Ziva harshly <-3 HP>.

Kyte: <

Okay, let’s try that again. Victor crackles with electricity and jolts Kyte unpleasantly with a gajillion volts of pure sizzly power. Bummed that there’s no more Fighting-type balloon boost whose benefits she can reap, Ziva nonetheless darts in with a health-sucking punch right to Victor’s gut. Feeling a little on the fried-to-a-crisp side, Kyte nonetheless manages to pester Ziva with an aerial strike.
Kyte: <-18 HP; -3 EP>
Victor: <-9 HP; -10 EP>
Ziva: <-3 HP; +4 HP; -4 EP>
Ziva now closes her eyes and hones her concentration into one focused beam of energy. The strike collides with Victor and propels him clear off the balloon, though quick intervention on behalf of my purdy Swellow returns him to the little Gible safely. Phew. He retaliates with a snaking stream of hot flames that roasts the already Burnt Lucario further, while Kyte goes in for a second Aerial Ace. Is that some ganging up I see? Methinks it is.

GL’s last Pokemon takes to the field, standing atop the Gible balloon with imperious might. The Salamence gnashes his teeth in a successful attempt to Intimidate his foes, causing Victor and Ziva to lose a bit of their strength. Not ready to let one pesky Dragon blow her game, Ziva releases a wide wave of Fighting-type energy at Victor, who stumbles back from the sneak attack. Turning his head skyward, Dimitri shoots out a radiant ball of orange light. The ball wafts up into the clouds before raining down an onslaught of small meteors upon Ziva. The balloon boost helps offset her natural resistance to the attack and results in her still taking some pretty impressive damage. Finally, Victor seems to be liking this whole lets-gang-up-on-Ziva strategy as he unleashes let enough crackling burst of flames at the Lucario. Ouchies!
Dimitri: <-10 EP; -2 SpA>
Victor: <-9 HP; -10 EP; -1 Att>
Ziva: <-25 HP; -4 EP; -1 Att>
Now turning his attention toward Victor, Dimitri opens wide and lets loose a concentrated purple pulse of some sort of draconic energy on Victor. The Zangoose growls and speeds toward Dimitri, driving his ice-infused fist into the dragon’s chest for some pretty potent damage. Ziva, still recovering from that assault, puts all her remaining mettle into one luminous sphere of energy. With a toss, she manages to target Victor with the attack, knocking the Zangoose to the ground. Ouchies.
Dimitri: <-13 HP; -4 EP>
Victor: <-18 HP; -5 EP>
Ziva: <-6 EP>
See you, suckers! Dimitri watches as Victor comes running in with icy energy again trickling from his fist. Ziva, meanwhile, seems to be launching a purplish burst Dimitri’s way. At the last second, Dimitri beats those might wings of his and takes off into the air, successfully evading both attacks. He circles the Gible balloon, laughing at his foes. Bwaha! Nice try!
