Seeing as how you cannot breed until after you beat the E4, can anyone suggest a Primeape moveset that I will not have to breed to get? Any help at all is most appreciated.

Anyone? Anyone at all?
For in game:
Cross Chop/Brick Break
Seismic Toss
Return/Secret Power
Rock Slide/Whatever.
Pretty simple really.
Which Pokemon would be better as my Fighting type, Primeape, or any of the Hitmon's?
Depends. Primeape has the advantage that you encounter it early and it's available in the wild (i.e. catch a bunch of them and pick the one with the best stats and nature) while prior to beating the elite 4 and getting to the island where the breeding centre is, you only get *one* Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan, and you *never* encounter it in the wild ever. If you can trade, Machamp is worth considering - and I think there is one in-game trade event where you receive a Machoke, which will evolve when you get it. If you save before you trade you can restart until you get a good one.
However, Primeape is the fastest, with respectable Attack, so is always a valid choice.

I don't think you do trade for a Machoke anywhere. And if you did in game traded pokemon come to you with the exact same nature, level and EV's as the one you traded.
What nature would be best for the Primeape? And what about a possible moveset?
I'm pretty sure there's one on Cinnibar Island... but they might have changed it from RBY. The in-game trades having the same stuff as the one you give away is a good thing - gives you control.Originally Posted by Aarkan

@CAMountainSnake:
Adamant or Jolly would be my pick for nature, as you probably won't be bothering with special type attacks. Power vs Speed - your choice (I'd go for power).
Moveset... try:
Karate Chop/Cross Chop/Brick Break
Seismic Toss/Low Kick/Return
Rock Tomb/HP Rock/Aerial Ace
Swagger/Screech/Focus Energy/Double Team
ie: at least one power Fighting attack for STAB, a backup attack for things resistant to Fighting (Psychic, Flying, Poison, Bug) like Return or Seismic Toss,
Something physical to hit Ghosts with (note that Earthquake is not a viable option vs the only ones you encounter in FRLG, as they all have Levitate) and a non-attack move to add flexibility. Focus Energy goes well with Karate Chop and Cross Chop, especially if you have a Scope Lens (you'll be hitting with 50% criticals, which makes even the modest Karate Chop dangerous).

Well then that makes sense as to why I don't remember it. I never caught a cubone before LG. I've also read the FR/LG strategy guide cover to cover a number of times (bored and frusterated at the game) and it's not mentioned in there so it must be a gonner.Edit: I checked and it was a Yellow (not RB) trade event on Route 5 (Cubone for Machoke). What can I breed it with to get Rock Slide? I cannot find any other Field type Pokemon that naturally learns Rock Slide.
There's only two pokemon that learn Rock Slide naturally that you could use.
Camerupt (RS), or Smeargle (Colosseum)
Both can breed directly with Primeape. Smeargle will need to sketch the move first though.
Or, if you can't do either of those, you can use the Rock Slide move tutor that is hiding in a corner of the Rock Tunnel.
Alright then, I think I have a final product.
Primeape@Scope Lens
Cross Chop (PP MAXed)
Focus Energy
Rock Slide
Seismic Toss/Return (Which would work better? Obviously Seismic Toss gives me a guaranteed 100 damage, but would Return be more effective?)
Return is probably better than Seismic toss, but I can't decide which would be better. :/
Sidenote:You can get as many PP-Ups as you need from pokemon with the Pickup ability.
Well at the moment im Raising my own Primeape. Just heading for Celadon and hes at lvl 30.
So far its
Primeape - Lvl 30
Bold - Vital Spirit
-Low Kick
-Karate Chop
-Rock Tomb
-Mega Kick
Low kick was to OHKO the Onix that Karate Chop didnt quite take down, Karate Chop against the smaller Normal or Physically weak pokemon like Surge's Pikachu. Mega Kick, well that was a mistake really but it does help against those that Fighting attacks dont bother. Rock Tomb is on there Since Charmleon has Rock Slide.
