Default Basic things that i still don't know

hello, i have a few questions basic questions about the games:

    1. what effects do gender have on pokemon? Doesn't being male or female raise or lower attack and defense? if so, how much?

    2. How much do hold items like twisted spoon, blackglasses, silk scarf etc. raise the power of those types of moves?

    3. What do EV's mean, like when you say 252 attack 252 defense 6 hp, how does that actually translate into a pokemon's stats?

    4. What's different about the stats and EV's or whatever of shiny pokemon?

    5. What are some basic steps necessary to breeding? does it matter if the pokemon is male or female, can you only breed with pokemon of the same species and ditto, etc.?

thanks for the help, don't feel like you have to answer all of the questions to reply, any little bit will help.

In the advanced generation Gender has no affect on your Pokemon's stats like it did back on Pokemon GSC. Hold items like Silk Scarf will boost Normal type moves 10% for example whereas the other hold items will boost other type moves 10%. Shiny Pokemon are no way different from normal Pokemon except they're a different colour and give you bragging rights to your friends.

OK here goes for my 500th post

Divide the EV's by 4 and that gives you the number of stat points it adds. (Any remainder such as 6/4 = 1 R2 doesn't count so the example would end up being 1)

When you breed, if you are using Ditto, remember that Ditto can breed with any pokmon except for those in the No Eggs group (such as legendaries and babies). If neither pokemon is Ditto then they have to be a male and female in the same egg group (some pokemon have two, if so, only 1 of their egg groups has to match). Most online pokedexes will list which egg group(s) a pokemon belongs to.

    1) I'll PM you with a link for thsi one.

    2) A 10% boost.

    3) I'll PM you with a link on this one too.

    4) Nothing.

    5) Depends on the pokemon species for steps. You can only breed pokemon of the same egg group.
