    Default Vitamin/EV Problem.

I was training my Bulbasuar from level 5 up to about level 30 or so against Pokemon that gave out HP points.

Afterward, I gave it 8 points in speed, 108 points in defense, 140 points in special defense, then tried to give it an HP Up to see if had any extra remaining area in the HP stat, or if it was already maxed out- it said the item had no effect, so I assumed it was already maxed. Now, I went to the woman who gives you the ribbon, she said I had more work to do. So, without saving, I battled about 5 pokemon with the macho brace to see if I may have needed less than 10 more to put in HP. She said I still had more work. So, I gave my Bulbasaur as many attack and special attack vitamins to see how many more it really needed. Turns out it was about 120 more or so- which makes me think that Bulbasuar still needs more HP to get it maxed out, but I've never given any HP UP to Bulbasaur before, and I thought you could give up to 10 as long as you don't reach the limit.

So, the question is: Is there some point where you can't give a Pokemon any more vitamins, even if you do have the avaliable room?
    Hey guys.

U can give 10 vitamins per type, because u can only give the first 100 effort points by vitamins. If u r over 100 effort points in any given stat, the pokemon won't take ne vitamins for that stat, however that doesn;t mean the EVs are maxed out. Hope this helps.

So it's better to give them the vitamins at the earliest levels?

Meh, it doesn't really matter when you give the vitamins to your Pokémon. Like previously said, vitamins will raise a Pokémon's EVs in a stat by 10, but once your Pokémon has 100 EVs in a stat, then you can no longer use vitamins to raise EVs in that stat. A Pokémon can have as many as 255 EVs in an individual stat, (although there is no benefit to giving a Pokémon more than 252 in an individual stat.) and 510 total EVs in all of its stats.

That said, if you want to use vitamins to raise your Pokémon's EVs, then you will want to use the vitamins as soon as possible. However, outside of being a little quicker and maybe a little easier to keep track of, there really is no benefit to using the vitamins as compared to battling wild Pokémon for EV training.

Um...yes there is! The stats boost, if u use the vitamins and level you'll raise about +6 for that stat, rather then the plus 3 or 4 u would get when battling at low levels.

It's all the same in the end, whether you get your EVs boosted early from vitamins or build them up more slowly with just battling. Once you reach maximum EP the only difference is which stats you put the EP in.

But yes, use vitamins as early as you can because they can't boost an EV beyond 100. So at the beginning of a pokémon's battling career, it can take 10 vitamins in a given stat. If you collect 40 Attack EP before giving it any Protein, it will only be able to take six of them, and if you collect 155 Attack Ep and try to use ten Proteins to get it up to the maximum 255 from there, you'll quickly be disappointed as the pokémon can't use any Protein at all.

Thanks, I thought that was the case, but I don't remember it ever being pointed out in any EV guides.

Another thing I was wondering about was what happens when you use Emerald's EV reducing berries and talk to the effort ribbon woman? Does she still tell you if you need more work?

Well, if you don't have an Effort Ribbon for that Pokémon yet, she will tell you that you need to work a little harder. If your Pokémon already has an Effort Ribbon, and then you use the stat reducing berries, she will still just make the comment that the Effort Ribbon look great on your Pokémon.

I'm sorry but I don't agree, maybe it's cause we have different training methods, but this is mine: Give Around 20 Effort points on the first levles so that the pokemon gets the +6 stat bonus. Once the Vitamins are out, battle to get to 255, make sure the boost has gone back to +4 tops. Start using rare candies to get to level 100 (if level higher than 80). That way u save time and ur pokemon will get it's max stats in less time, at least that's what works best for me, using vitamins fast so that it can battle better, get it to a high level and finish up with rare candies.

As long as you're battling enough to max out effort, that'll work fine. Talk to the Energy Guru's wife before you start on the Rare Candies; if she doesn't give your pokémon a ribbon, hold off on the Candying up to L100 and battle more until she does. All that truly matters is that you max out Effort. Getting max stats in the fastest time possible means maxing out effort quickly and then doing the Rare Candy bonanza.

Yup, thats what I'm saying, I preffer boosting effort from the befgining. BTW, is there a way of knowing if ur pokemon has max effort values if you have a FR/LLG version?

Well, it's not as easy as RSE, but...get a hold of one each of HP Up, Protein, Iron, Calcium, Zinc and Carbos. Save the game so that you can revert back to this point later, and then try to use all six on the pokémon. If any of them work, you're not at max. True, they stop working at only 100 out of 255, but if none of them work then you must have reached the 510 total cap.
