    Default The Chunky Clefable Cafe

Located in the middle of the bustling ASB community lies a warm, friendly cafe called 'The Chunky Clefable Cafe'. Many battlers gather here to chat about all sorts of things, from recent battles to recent captures.

This thread is for ASBers to lounge around and get to know each other better between battles. There will be regular polls to converse in, and everyone can have input into anything. Spamming will not be tolerated, nor will flaming or any other way to disrupt things.

So to kick things off, what is the best Pokemon on your team? I would say, so far, it has to be Sneasel. Fantastic movepool, good speed, and able to pull off some pretty cool combos in my opinion. He was one of my first Pokemon, and a very versatile member.

    What about anyone else?

I love my Solrock. I thought maybe Zangoose was the best, but Solrock has all the versatile hard hitting attacks, it has Earthquake to deal with Substitutes, and it has it's Psychic type that gives it the Psychic attack, plus cool moves like Cosmic Power. I still have plans to get a Lunatone in the future to complete the same pairing I have with Zangoose and Seviper.

BTW Chris you really need MSN or something. Get it, or i'll sic my ruthless bloodthirsty Spheal on you.

I find Mr. Mime is my favourite, its quirky, wide range of attacks and is just awesome. Failing that, Misdreavus gets a good word from me for being able to fly around and be a good supporter.

My Charmander of course, Since I have had him the longest, well sort of, you see it's a long story but basicly I like to think that my cent Charmander is the same one I stared with when I frist joined the ASB... ;o

I am also quit fond of my Sunkern, not becuse it's the best but because it's a cool looking pokémon.

Oh, come on everyone! Everyone knows my Elekid, the Male Elekid, is the top dog of my fray. Or the top spark plug humanshape thingy of the bunch. Or whatever. Bleh. No other has such a variety of offensive and defensive moves!

Honorable mentions go out to Taina, the female Marshy for having cool moves and type, and Roy, the Male Torchic for being a staple in almost every battle he's been in.

Thanks for the visits guys. Anyone else wanna discuss anything? All I can think of at the moment is battles. What would you say is the strangest battle you've ever been in? I've been in a few, but the one that comes to mind most is the one with Andrew at the moment, where we chose each others Pokemon! It actually makes it hard...he knew I'd want to choose his small Hoppip so he picked my Cubone, meaning he'd have an advantage. But Cubone was the one he could cream with his guys. But luckily I picked his Mawile with a strategy up my sleeve...*evil laugh*

    what about you guys?

    My weirdest battle had to of been with Sesshomaru. It was his Aerodactyle, versus my Lapras (formally known as Aozora, but now renamed to Cdavvo.). I didn't understand the battle much, he keep on trying to blow my Lapras's brains out. >.<;
The strangest part around it was when he stopped trying to hurt Lapras and blasted the ice out from underneath her. Which only helped my strategy ^^;; After that, the battle was a little one sided, But a good battle none the less.

My strangest battle was before I left. It was Andrew's free-for-all, with like 15 people versus him. Never finsihed, but was a cool idea.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, this was before ASB got redone recently.

    The weirdest battl eI was in was when I was battling Kiara, and she tried to make her male Eevee use Attract on my male Growlithe. oo;

And I can't say who's the best of the best, but I'm liking my Absol a ton. And I mean I can't say cause my Bulbasaur is still in her first battle, and I haven't given my Minun a test run yet. ^.~

Hmm, so what else does anyone wanna chat about? Anyone can start topics to talk over. I'm wondering what Pokemon anyone has which you didn't expect to have. For example, I never thought I'd get a Smoochum, but after getting Elekid and Magby I figured having a Jynx would fit in nicely. I was also surprised at my choice for Baltoy/Claydol, but after watching a match in the archive with The Muffin Man's Claydol I was won over. What a Pokemon!

Oh lord I was in that battle, it was... interesting to say the least. And one hell of a battle for the ref.

And as for me, I only have 4 but right now, at least until I get my Rhydon, I'd say Sneasel is my best. Dark/Ice is a useful combination, lots of speed and versitility, long arms and thus the ability to pull off my beloved defensive dynamicpunch haha, can do anything from close range combat to hit and run tactics, great pokemon to have.

My best Pokemon has got to be my Lapras. Great combinations of attacks, and defensive moves. I love her Psychic ability. It can really get me out of a jam.

The one Pokemon I didn't expect on me team? Well theres two. Numel (Which I just found out what it was) and Chimecho.
Chimecho I fell in love with when my sister showed me a picture of it. And then I found out it was psychic, my favorite type. So that basically set it for me.
Numel I have yet to use... But is Chris 2.0 is right. Then it should be a great addition to my team.

As for the subject Change. Do you pick Pokemon you like? Or Pokemon you know will make a good team, despite them not being your favorites?

I tend to pick my favorites. ^^;; I really can't stand some of the 'handy' Pokemon. Because to me, a lot of the helpful Pokemon tend to be butt ugly. --; Besides, my favorites seem to have a good combinations of attacks and such anyways.

I'd never pick a Pokemon because it's good. All my team are ones I like, but I also like to pick less mainstream Pokemon. Pokemon like Cacnea were, at first, regrettable because of his less-briliant movepool, but as a Cacturne he is much stronger and can really put up a fight. He has a devestating secret weapon, too...

However some of my favourites I won't pick because of a limited movepool. Alternatively it may be slow or too small (Snorlax or Chimecho) and I think size can make a difference in ASB.

When I first joined I had a Pineco which was unfortunately rather bad. I aslo had a Whismur which lost spectacularly to Syberia's Porygon, but since then I admit I would have liked a Loudred or Exploud on my team.

Although after feeling left out that I didn't have a starter I got Squirtle, who is now a big bad Blastoise . All my team members are favourites and all of them put up a brilliant fight.

Same here. I pick the ones I like, but also at the same time ones who I (or anyone else) haven't used that often, but now I'm thinking I may have made a poor choice in my starter team: two of my Pokemon have real moving problems. Diglett can't even jump or anything, and I'm not even sure how Exeggcute is moving. @_@ Oh well.

I haven't really been in a battle yet but I always like elekid and electabuzz. There is something about an electric pokemon that can use psychic. He doesn't have that much of a move pool (if you only look at 1 move pool since he was 1 of the first he has 3), but he does have the 3 elemental punches which is always great.

My second favorite pokemon would still need to evolve so I'll keep quiet about it

My thirth favorite is a tie between Gengar and Nidoking. Although Nidoqueen has superpower always preferred Nidoking. He looks much stronger and, boy, what a horn he has. It's a megahorn. Gengar. I always prefered this guy over Alakazam.

Now for my own contribution, what pokémon do you see yourself catch next?

I would probably catch a meditite. Since I was playing emerald I've been attracted to fighting pokémon. And this fighting/psychic's evolution just looks cool. ^^

I'm not sure what I'll catch. At the moment I'm just evolving my newest captures. Once they're all big and evolved, I might catch some more Pokemon - but as of now, nothings planned.

I think i might try catching another wurmple so that i can eventually have both a beautifly and a dustox . After that i'm mainly gonna try and evolve the ones i have now that need to evolve which would be my eevee, my chikorita, and my wurmple (wurmples if i get another)

Just wondering...do people regularly look at the ASB News topic? Because a lot of Forum updates are there and I was just wondering if people make a note to look there.

As for more discussions...are many people looking forward to the ASB Tournament coming up? Those who check the News topic may be aware the Tournament is being planned and scheduled very soon. Details are scarce at the moment, but we are trying to launch a Tournament to get people in the battling spirit. I for one would be excited, but it seems I'll have to do a lot of the work in organizing it =/. So I doubt I can participate. It could work, I suppose...and me and Razor Leaf could compete because the system should be bias-free.

    So, who is excited?

Ooh yeah, definitely looking forward to the tournament! The trick will be getting my Pokemon to a competetive level before then...

And I look at the news topic if it says there are new posts.

I'm excited. You must forgive me, I don't read the news and only learnt of this tournament now. But yes, it sounds like fun.

Sounds like lots of work >.<; don't know how you people do it. I could never have that much work on me, I have troubles with homework...

Anyways, I'll be there! I'm sure to loose, but it will be fun!

For anyone who doesn't I really would advise checking out the News topic. It will be updated quite often and I will edit the title when it is updated (Ie: Updated __/__/05 sorta thing).

The Tournament should be a success, but it will be hard work. And I have also deducted that me and Dan will be participating - we can cope while the other is battling etc. Details of the Tournament should hopefully be reaching the News Topic very soon, with a date of the tournament, too.

New topic...what other businesses would people like to see in ASB? We have a popular Egg Center at the moment and we also have regular Contests. Is there anything else people would want to see there? Any suggestions, post in here and discuss them ^^

I'd like to see some of the things from the Battle Frontier. Maybe perhaps the Factory (where you battle for points using random Pokemon) or the Pike (works sort of like Expedia in AC/CC). It'd be pretty cool.

Well TBA thing with that is, we would need seven Brains and we don't even have the gyms anymore. So I highly dubt that we would set up a battle Frontier here, thought I must admit it is an instesting Idea never the less...

Well, I didn't mean to follow them that strictly. I just meant that the Factory could just be a type of tournament. The Pike would have to have a Brain, though, so I see your point.

Then there are those other kinds where you only battle 3 rounds and get rated on various things. Maybe that could just be a way to battle? Like when you start a battle, you could say, "In the style of the Battle whichever-one-this-is."

I kinda like the idea of the random pokémon tournament. Gives you a chance to battle with new pokemon which could grow on you. I know I'd sign up.

It could be hard to set up and a bad randomizing could be evil. For instance, a magikarp vs a Raichu or something, so if you plan on getting this up you should probably have to do it with evolve pokés

Battle Frontier ideas would be great, but having a Brain would be more difficult. And only having a few of the manageable Facilities would be a shame, ie: Having three of them but not the other four. I think it would have to be all or none in my opinion.

And Silencer, we do have plans for future tournaments. However they are special, and are things which people often work very hard for (I haven't been in a Tourney since I joined, so this first Tournament is very important). This is why I think Tournaments should be far apart and not too commonplace. A Random Tourney is a nice idea, and OzAndrew's suggestion was a good one, if not complicated. We will see in the future.

I think before we get battle frontiers we should get gym leaders. Two obvious people would be Chris 2.0 and Razor Leaf. And I think Wolfsong should be one too, since she's been here for a long time and has strong pokemon.

Then, there could be something like... the winner of the tournament gets to be a gym leader? I dunno. But I think it's better to have some gym leaders then none, personally. Also, if we get some gym leaders going we can decide to have them also be battle frontier brains. Meh.

EDIT: As I said about the gyms- I think it's better to have one or two or some of the battle frontier things then none. It's better to compromise, nein? Herm, just my opinion. But it would be a pity to give up something that we could have simply because we can't have the whole thing.

Battle Front: I think rather then going on just evolved Pokemon you could use basic just as long as you exclude some.
You could exclude ultimately tough Pokemon (salamance, and dragonite etc.) and ultimately weak Pokemon. (Magikarp, and that other fish that looks like it ^^;; )

Or, you could have different leagues in the Battle Front.

    Basic - Basic/baby Pokemon

Advanced: Some third evolves and most seconds

Master: With fierce and strong Pokemon.

Gym Leaders: We could hold a small tournament to decide Gym Leaders. But they would have to be judged on more then just power. (Strategy, varied team, etc..) So even if you don't win a match or the tournament, because of your strategy, and ideas, you could still become on.

Hmm. I agree with Crystal Tears, on the gym leader thing. Perhaps we could have a couple of tournaments and in the end whoever won the most? *Shrugs* Eh.

    Also, here's an idea... in PokeStadium2, there was a pokecup thing were you go random pokemon yes? First level was first stage-baby pokemon, second level was first strage-second stage pokemon, third level was second stage-third stage pokemon, and fourth stage was only third stage pokemon (completely evolved). Of coarse they're all random. Yep. >>;
EDIT: This is exactly what Crystal Tears said. XD Sorreh, lol.

Another idea- One time OzAndrew made a really cool battle where it was everyone against him. Everyone that fought him took out one pokemon, and he took out one to match it. The reason this didn't work was because there were too many people that joined but didn't battle, and also I suppose it was too hard to ref... But, if we do it with only five people, say, wouldn't that be cool?

Or you just could hold an all out tourney where 4(or more) people enter a big stage, send out 1 pokémon at a time and then just brawl it out with everyone.

The thing about gym leaders is that you probably need 8 minimum and if someone manages to beat all off them, then what? Also gyms tend to have a theme so it's kinda difficult to fight with your own team. Not to mension unfair since loads of people will challenge you and you can get experience for all off your pokémon and lots of points.

I like this idea. Hmm, I'm not sure which I like more, the one-against-all or the all-against-all, but I like 'em both... maybe a poll?

Not to mension unfair since loads of people will challenge you and you can get experience for all off your pokémon and lots of points.
Nein, the way it used to work was people used their own pokemon and as a reward for beating them you got a special TM move.
I dunno about the TM move, this time around. I think as a reward we could give out a pokemon, maybe, or points? Or maybe a holdable item...?
But, I do think it would be cool if gym leaders had a theme. Not sure how this could be done as it's kinda annoying to raise pokemon of one element, but if someone did do that... well... o_o; Yeah. Hurm. It's a cool idea anyhow.

If, or more so when, we get round to making Gym Leaders, which I for one would like to see return, they will be made in a way that the leaders do not win themselves excessive amounts of points or prizes. They'll probably get some kind of bonus, but it wouldn't be anything to put them at a supreme advantage in non-Gym battles. Maybe, they will have seperate Gym accounts, in which case the points earned will only be allowed for use on Gym pokemon. Then for people who beat Gym leaders, they may get some kind of bonus like a .5% increase in points for a length of time, until someone challenges them and takes it away, like a championship belt.

I'd also like to ask, what does everyone think of the addition of Shadow Rush? If you don't know, check the News or the Attack List, but we've basically addded it as a non-typed attack that works normally against any pokemon. When XD hits western shores, would you like to see the other 'Shadow' attacks translated into attacks? What about TCG moves? Since sig moves are not allowed, would expanding the attackdex be a good idea?

Errhm... Well, it's a cool idea, but I dunno if people would actually log in to battle with the gym leader account. Maybe at the beggining, but then I think they would just get lazy. o_o; Hm. But if they could have like a seperate trainer in the same account it would be cool.

I dunno. It depends how strong it is. Also, what element is it, dark? O_o Ghost? I think I remember it being around as strong as tackle, and it has recoil damage, so I dunno if it would be that useful. But if it's a dark attack, maybe. Or ghost, heh.
    I dunno about TCG moves though. That would add an entire new problem of who learns what, and new pokedex's and ect. x_x; Bleh. I dunno, maybe I'm nitpicking. ._.;

I think a different set of pokemon in the same account is what Razor Leaf is talking about. One set for normal battles, and the other set, with a relative theme, for gym battles.

Shadow Rush doesn't have a type <_< Unless Shadow is considered one. I don't really understand how/why a pokemon would use that move when they have equally good attacks that do have recoil. (i.e Body Slam, Mega Punch etc.)
About the card moves, I don't know... I'm having enough problems finding out what exactly the normal attcks do. But if we did have them, then maybe they could be like a sig move, and only one TCG attack could be used with that pokemon..

I don't mean making a totally new forum account, I meant a bank account in the ASB Bank. For example:

    Accounts

    Tuber Charlie: 0
    Hiker Dave: 10
    Chris 2.0: 25
    Crystal tears: 4
    Xovad: 11
    Rotten Money Thief Betty: -50

    Gym Leader Accounts:

    Leader Chris 2.0: 5
    Leader Hiker Dave: 4
Then those points could only be used for pokemon that are kept only for Gym Leader battles. Like Hiker Dave having a Graveler especially for Gym Battles, and using the Gym Points to evolve that Graveler. Like I said, it was an idea I came up with as I was replying, and need lots of thought before anything is done.

Shadow Rush doesn't have a type, like I explained. It does Normal damage against any pokemon. Normal damage against a Steel type, normal damage against a Psychic type, normal damage against a Ghost/Dark type. I'll have to check on it's exact base power, but I figure it is like Frustration, and gains more power based on how wild the pokemon is getting, just like how in Colloseum, Shadow Pokemon are wild and sometimes unresponsive.

Shadow Rush has the same base power as Take Down, I think.

Truth be told I'm too crap at ASB to be a good Gym Leader :-/

Maybe they'll return...maybe not. They are more of an RPG element to ASB. They could be used, and I suppose some of us could be leaders (like maybe only 6 leaders? I have some ideas of candidates for Gym Leaders).

As for Tourney ideas, we'll have a Tourney suggestion thread up soon for you to discuss other ideas for Tourneys. Obviously a standard Tourney is starting on the 16th, but I think we should space them out to allow you to really train up for one.

Another side not: We are putting people together for the Tournament and pairing people accordingly. That is to say a trainer with 4 unevolved Pokemon will more than likely not face me in the first rounds. We want to pair it so that it's fair. Therefore there is less obligation for different tournaments based solely on stages of Pokemon.

I would like to see a Whirl Cup appear, and Andrew's Random idea is nice. We have plenty of ideas and me and Dan will be discussing some of our own custom battle facilities that are much easier for ASB, ones that can be used much easier.

I like the idea of Shadow Rush, but have yet to use it.

I almost used Shadow Rush against you with Tap-Tap in his Rage-Frustration-Rage blitz, but decided I didn't like the recoil aspect.

Meh. No clue what compelled me to post that.

Chris, I actually rather admire the way you use the arena in your battles. o_o Yeah. Heh.
Also, I think 4 gym leaders would be a good enough start, personally.

I agree with the Gym Leader title system, but instead of a point increase, you should give the Gym Leader bonuses to be usable during battles. For example, for a Water Gym Leader, you could increase the power of Water moves and weaken Fire moves, or as an Electric Leader, you could remove Ground's ability to nullify electric attacks. That way, Gym Battles become more challenging and not more of a hasty charge job by challengers.
